It is simple rule of tajweed, we need to read the word with the harakat (signs of movement marked on the letter in the form of zabar, zair or pesh). Sharing a video clip which has easier style of written Arabic

You can see where is the khara zabar, there is no movement mentioned on "ya" so it remain silent.

Surah Ad-Dhuha, Verse 1:
وَالضُّحَىٰ

Now this is a different style. But the rules of tajweed apply here too.

You cannot read it as "Wadduhaya", it become wrong because ya here is silent. I will try to find that specific rule of tajweed & will share it here.
