Salaam, hope everyone is doing well.

I just had a quick question regarding the color green in Shia Islam.

My uncle has recently come back from a trip to Iraq and he brought me a green scarf which is predominantly worn by Syed's. I will try to attach a picture of a similar scarf to what he brought me below. A different aunt of mine said she has never heard of Syed's wearing such a scarf. Furthermore, someone told me that only descendants of Imam Hassan (AS) wear the green scarf, and descendants of Imam Hussain (AS) wear just plain black.

If it is necessary to know: I'm a Syeda, and my parents are from Pakistan. We are from the Rizvi line.

There is just a lot of confusion about this scarf around me, and I will appreciate it if someone could please shed some light on this matter. Please do leave some feedback. Thank you!

Alaikum Asalam.

That scarf is not only worn by Al Hassani lines. I am pretty sure that all sayyids wear it. I myself am from Hussaini line and wear it along with all my relatives who are of the same line. We don't wear an all-black scarf. If you go to a Shia mosque in Muharram, many sayyids will be wearing it 100% sure.

All syeds can wear this scarf.

Green was the color of Bani Hashim - that's all this signifies.

Females wear thin scarves to keep from overheating in the summertime. I saw a male speaker wearing that green scarf in the winter time. See his video here:

Is there a particular shade of green worn by Sayyids or will any shade of green be correct?  This is a serious question asked by me, who is not a Muslim but who has a number of friends from different countries who are Muslims.  Some say any green will do while others state it must be emerald green.

There is no need to discuss what color should syeds and non-syeds should wear I guess. Maybe syeds got that much lack in their knowledge and behaviors that to identify them, a scarf should be worn by them.

Actually it's just a trend there to wear green scarf. Mostly wannabe wear it, because their performance and teachings are far more worst then real syeds. So a piece of cloth can't decide what and who do you belong to. Only your actions does.

Assalam-mu-Alikum,

Basically, the people of Banu Hashim used to wear green shawal. It was the sign of Banu Hashim. According to Islamic shariyat, it has no importance.
