Not fasting during Study and exams period

Salaams,

This year , Ramadhan has fallen on a very important study and exam period of mine as these exams will determine whether I get into University. Due to this, I haven't been fasting as having water improves my concentration whilst learning. I tried fasting and struggled to concentrate, got very tired and struggled to understand concepts.

It was my niyyah to fast this month, and every morning I make an intention to fast, but then break my fast saying it is hard for me to study.

I do taqleed of Ayotallah Sistani, who says break the fast when it is unbearable, and I find it unbearable to study without any water or energy.

I tried fasting at night but struggled a lot as Im not an evening person and have never been able to study in the evening.

I live in the UK where the fasts are 19 hours long, so it becomes very difficult for me.

Could you advise me on whether I should be paying kaffarah on this and what I should do?

Thank you

Unbearable means being very sick, dying of thirst, starving, being extremely fatigue to an extent where it's effecting your health and etc. Not having concentration for your exams is not unbearable, and it's not a valid excuse to break your fast. People study while fasting all the time and they're fine.

As for kaffarah,

1. you are to either fast 61 days for each day you broke your fast

2. Do the qada of the day you broke your fast, and feed 60 poor Muslims for each day.

My Friend, I am doing my University exams in the UK, and I can assure you Fasting is a benefit for ur studies during Ramadan just think when are you more likely to receive Allah's support than when fasting in the Holy Month?

To study in Ramadan is a strategy, you need to be decisive with your foods. Complex carbohydrates such as wholemeal bread, slow digesting dense foods such as hummus maybe, and bananas for water retention, dates for sugar then water water water! I have been doing this and I sleep 5/6 hours a day and I feel great whole way through while fasting all due to my diet being exactly as how it's needed.

This is just advice as making up 30 Kaffara's isn't something rationally possible.

Salam.

Ramadhan is one of the five pillars of Islam, it's just as important as Salah.

We can't skip Salah because we feel tired, same thing with breaking our fast in the month of Ramadhan, we can't give excuses not to fast, if one was able to break his fast for such reasons, then believe me no one would be fasting. It is not permissible for you to break your fast in the mont of Ramadhan because of Exmas, that is not one of the excuses/reasons permitted or included for which one is allowed to not fast.

Just have Tawakul on Allah, study and do your exmas without breaking your fast, you can do it Insha'Allah, Allah will give you strength to pull through it. Just believe in him!

That is Shaytan telling you that you can't fast and study at the same time.

When I was in University, many times Ramadan would fall during final exams and midterms.

I just told myself that this is a wajibat and I have to do it.

Guess what ?

Allah(s.w.a) helped me and I actually did better on the exams when fasting vs when I wasn't fasting. Also, I know Doctors who perform procedures on patients and literally the patients life is in their hands and they are fasting. So they have a better excuse than you do to not fast, but they fast anyway.

Ask Allah(s.w.a) to help you to observe the fasting. He(s.w.a) will definitely help you.

BTW, I live in Michigan and we are also fasting 18 hours plus this year.

:salam:

Sister, I did it when I had Exams and study for it by helps of Allah.

You can start ur studing after iftar until Sahar and Fajr or when you csn continiue.

Then sleep and save Energy.

If you realy cant , and its harmful for you is other thing.

But if u can but may be become tired and hungry can be solve.
