(Salam)

So

Another stray cat has found its way to my house. I had about a dozen domesticated pigeons and this little monster with a cute voice ate most of them and I count four of them left. In the past, I have had to deal with similar stray cats and even a mongoose who ate my baby rabbits and their mum. I just saw this cat attacking my pigeons who are scared to death since weeks and perch out on a wire hanging over the porch due to this cat. I was about to kill it having it plain in my sight 10 feet away, then it started mewing seductively and sniffing about for food. Then I have resorted to offer it a piece of bread from the kitchen. But I am afraid I won't accept his nuisance any more. If he attacks my pigeons then he is going down like a few before him. I have no other solution I can think of. Already I am feeding two stray cats, one of them a kitten I have adopted and a big sober orange male cat, but they do not bother me. I seriously wonder what would Ayt. Bahjat say? Obviously I do not enjoy killing anything to say the least. In my early youth I have shot so many wild boars, porcupine rats and ducks because they tasted good but I just want to be left alone by pests and fear God. :(

I don't know about jurisprudence, but do you have access to " Have a Heart" traps in your area? I have had to live-trap some ferals on my place. They get taken to the Humane Society for taming and placement, if possible.

Aren't cats known for finding their way back?

There are no organisations in Pakistan who will take in stray cats AFAIK.

No lol. I just translated what my grand mother said. She's in Taqleed of Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, so I think she might have got that from her resalah.

Either way, would you want to kill a cat?

No such concept here.

Some hard evidence please, or it didn't happen. ^^

He already said he doesn't want to, but he needs to protect his birds.

Try to find someone else who can take it in, preferably someone who lives far away, but if it's a danger to your livestock you have a right to kill it.

Throw water at it. Hopefully it won't come back. But if you've fed it, it's yours now. You'll probably have to find it another home. Water might not work after it has decided it likes you.

Well, no a "cage" will not do. They live free, always did. I give them grains and like to see them dance about feeding on them. But four of them left now. My favorite ones are gone. Not injured, consumed. I had them for years. I like the birds, they are peaceful and my kinds of pets, plus there are hadiths about keeping them. In contrast there is no material in support of a cat. This topic was brought up before and there was no material to prove that cats are holy or its a "big sin" to dispose of them especially when their annoyance gets out of hand. Its why I killed two in the past who would eat my baby rabbits. I'm harmless, I'm humble, I'm very polite, but I have feelings too which can become unbridled when logic has nothing to stop them.

So I'm not "caging" them or giving them away just because of a bit of stray filth people happen to venerate for no reason or simply because its cute. I fed it bread and I will do so again but if my pigeons are attacked there will be lead on the menu for it and I will go on like before. :/

You have a right - maybe even a responsibility - to protect your birds. No reason at all to feel guilty.

I'm a "cat person", but if they're causing harm and you've tried other means, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Or trap it and take it to another city.

It will find it's way back even if you take it to another state.

Adopt it. Let it be your pet. Feed it. Get it toys. Name it. Play with it

Stray cats run away from me when I give them fish. They eat, finish, and run away.

You are lucky.

Lol! It has become a tradition nowadays, a fishy hadith will always be followed by " Abu Hurairah? ".

Bismehe Ta3ala,

Assalam Alikum

Brother DV, you can't pay a taxi guy to take the cat way 30 kms away?  Why resort in killing it?  What if it is a mother who has kittens and what's to fed its young?  Please remember this is the month of mercy, show mercy not harm.  God be with you.

If he has it driven far away, the kittens will starve just the same and the adult cat might slowly starve too, rather than a quick ending.

I don't know dear sis, I just remember amir al mo2mineen how he says he wouldn't remove a husk from an ant.  I know this is a bala2 (trial) for brother DV.  We are questioned in front of God every act we commit, if with a full conscious he can answer why he killed two and maybe a third one...wa Allah a3lam.  I'm not judging him, I believe there is an alternative way to get rid of it instead of killing it.

By God,
were I given all the seven heavens
with all they contain
in order that
I may disobey God
by depriving an ant
from the husk of a grain of barley,
I would not do it…..Hazrat Ali

Heh, these cats only interact with people in order to be fed. How do you suppose I get it in a car to drive it away? Open the door and ask nicely? I have already adopted one of them, now some months old, and even that one won't let me pick her up, she will try to bite if I did so. While the cat in question is so formidable that all other cats are afraid of it. Its even not bothered by my dog if he is around.

As for giving it to a shelter I'm in Pakistan. There is no shelter for even humans and the nation is being robbed blind by illiterate western puppet politicians / gangsters.

That all said I think offering it bread has worked and my pigeons are left alone for now. The cat I have adopted is young and growing up and I have high hopes in it to be fat and territorial in time. I feed it chicken liver and necks or milk and yogurt sometimes and it sleeps all night in my computer table's drawer. Two other stray cats often come to my room at night and feed off of whatever is left by her and I don't mind them. They are all afraid of the bird eater though. Tonight my cat was hiding behind me as I wrote these posts, looking outside the door with fear in her eyes. I will teach her krav maga for cats or something.

There is something called the Pakistan Animal Welfare Society...but it looks like animal shelter opportunities in Pakistan are severely limited.

Maybe you can still contact them?

Unfortunately, cats are obligate carnivores ( they occasionally eat grass to rid themselves of intestinal parasites ,but their bodies can't really process vegetable matter ....or bread....well) and are really good at what they do. They are a real danger to any animals smaller than themselves and unable to fight back if they become prey-driven.

If you can't relocate it, and you have a gun, you might want to try scaring it off with non-lethal methods first. People get flash-bangs here for varmints.

Best solution....Hopefully your other cat will chase it off, as you said.

My stepfather used to chase away strays by throwing cold water on them if the cats we kept couldn't chase them away. He wouldn't do it on very cold days, but any other time it was fairly effective. We fed our cats outside, so strays often tried to scavenge from their food. Usually our cats were able to drive off the outsiders by themselves.

In the matter of precaution I would not recommend such. Rather take the stray cats to whom would be willing to care for them. Possibly a pound or a Vetenarian's office.

Their is has to be a better alternative than killing it. From what I have heard if you harm a cat it will pray to Allah against you and you might be stuck with bad mojo for the rest of your life. Google what to do with a stray cat. http://www.wikihow.com/Handle-a-Stray-Cat Killing the poor cat just because it was hungry and looking for something to eat sounds to extreme. Catching it seems like a better option and if you do catch it and it goes to a shelter make sure that it will be well taken care of and not killed.
