If smartphones stop existing...

If I didn't have my smartphone, I'd have to start up the computer every time I want to look up some random fact or find a recipe that uses bamboo. It would slow things down terribly. It would slow a whole lot of nothing down.

But the worst would be navigation. I use my phone's Google map to find everything. Having to go back to paper maps would be such a nuisance!

Bismehe Ta3ala,

Assalam Alikum

I'm a very happy lady, I do not own a dumbphone.

I'm on my desktop computer.

@Ron_Burgundy

Alhamd'Allah I cook, clean, buy groceries, pick up 40 liters of drinking water, feed children, help with homework, take care of spouse and use ShiaChat.  Don't I deserve something that I like to enjoy and in hallal means?

God help mothers, we always have to hear endless jokes about not spending time in the kitchen.  offffff

Thats dirt cheap. Some people pay over $75

Always worth filing away these little behavourial indicators of forthcoming economic crashes.

A good one at the moment are 'personal contract purchase' plans that people in the UK are using to buy cars. AIUI they're popular in the US as well.

Few thousand £ down payment and then a couple of hundred per month for 3 years. End of term pay the balance to buy outright, most people go onto another plan.

I'm terrible at being a woman. I've not mastered intensive multitasking. I'd have burned the parathas, spilled the chai, sliced my finger, and broken at least one dish. :( But I would have executed the superpowered mom-dive to catch my toddler midair falling headfirst off the sofa, so at least one task would be accomplished. I'm not much of a housekeeper, but I'm a bear of a mom.

Actually, I get lost while navigating with or without a smart phone. I get lost while driving all the time. Every time. Before smartphone navigation it was normal. Maybe I'd be better off if smartphones ceased to exist.

Same here and they both work.

The VCR came with our house and it works - I have a few VHS tapes too. I don't know whether the rotary phone works or not. It's got a four pronged plug and even if we had land line service in our house we would have to find an adaptor for the more modern pinch plug outlets before we could plug it in. The phone was find in the attic of a different house that we used to live in.

My kids bought me a smartphone. It's smarter than me. I don't know how to use most of the stuff on it. I use it to tell time and make phone calls. Just like my old flip phone.

I use mine instead of computer, GPS, phone book, and camera. I've even got a grocery list app, so my husband and I can synchronize lists - it's very efficient, we don't even have to speak with each other before shopping.

I pay $10/month.........for two phones:verryhappy:

Pakistan is one of the cheapest country when it comes to mobile phone plans.

$10 is toooo much!

My driver has three phones and he pays a total of $6 for thousands of free minutes and text messages. Since he's illiterate and can't text, he makes full use of the "night packages" to chat up with his four or five girlfriends ("meri mashooqain")

To answer the question, I'd be more than happy to go back to the pre-mobile phone days when you had had to do some work to reach a person on their landline number, or write a letter. There was meaning in communication back then. Now it's child's play.

Obviously I'm not denying the benefits of smartphones but most people use it like it's going to be taken away from them the next day. It has since long moved away from being a utility to becoming an addiction.

^ this is why I don't see a problem with the rise of AI and robots. People think that humans will have nothing to do.

They'll still be plenty of work in creating emojis, memes and capturing the most transient of zeitgeists to make things go viral. It'll be some time before robots can do that, IMHO.

l have easily over a 100 VCR tapes where l had off-aired taped programs a documentaries. Then 10 and 15 years later l re-watch them to see how accurate the talking heads were. Then l tape over them again.

If these devices polluting our world with all their super high frequency and kilowatts of radio-activity from their cellular towers cease to exist then cancer and big pharma will nearly disappear. But its not going to happen because there is a prophecy in a hadith telling us of 75% world pop dying to "white death and red death".

That is where mommies belong ... like the water cooler, cookie jar, ...

"...and did the dishes"   That is why l never bought my ex a dishwasher. Paying money for hassles and extra work.

Mobile Devices in general: Don't need them. lf whatever-it-is is not important enough to come yourself or send the police .... what-ever-it-is can wait.
