Trump mulling over major weapons deals, THAAD sale in Saudi visit

US President Donald Trump is planning to sign multi-billion dollar weapons deals with Saudi Arabia during his upcoming visit to the country, including the possible sale of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system.

Trump has decided to visit Saudi Arabia before heading to Israel on his maiden international trip, a move that underscores the kingdom’s significance in his foreign policy.

The new Republican president is planning to enhance relations with the key Middle Eastern ally, which distanced itself from Washington after former President Barack Obama’s push for the historic nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers.

He also plans to deliver on his promises to boost manufacturing jobs in the US by offering the Riyadh regime a wide range of weapons deals, Reuters reported Friday, citing unnamed sources within the administration.

Apparently, Trump will offer the Saudis an agreement with weapons manufacturer Lockheed Martin for a $1 billion THAAD missile system, similar to the one that the US has already sent to South Korea.

I'm sure the reason Donald was put in charge was to inflict maximum damage. Has he done anything good as president? Anything? Every time I think he can't get worse, he does.

I wonder how the American feel about their country selling weapons and arms to the same country that's responsible for 9/11 ..? Where are the patriotic Americans to rise up against their government for supporting terrorists..? We see how they are quick to react when people burn their flag !

So once again death to amercia for supporting terrorists and arming them! Death to America for killing millions around the world either by imposing their policy by force or selling/using weapons.

Death to America because the only America we have been exposed to is a murderous bloodthirsty satan who send drones to bomb innocents and overthrowing legitimate governments of the people..... death to America for being coconspirator of the Saudis in killing thousands of innocent AMERICANs in 9/11.....

@Ya_isa (as) powerful words.

I'm patriotic* American. I know a lot of others like me who despise Trump and the other politicians supporting American terrorism and calling it "War on Terror". We are trying to change things, but we are fighting a very powerful enemy and we are weak and divided still.

* By "patriotic" I do not claim any superiority. It's my home. This is where my people are, and I see a lot of good things in my culture too.

I definitely love the every day American,  By no means I mean death to the millions of innocent Americans! What I mean is death to that corrupt system!

If i was in Yemen at the moment and my whole country is being starved to death, when a child is dying every 10 minutes.... who is supporting the Saudis ..? Who's giving them smart bombs..? US is their closes ally who have given them the green light to continue their massacre...... I and the rest of us who chant that mean death to that America who's enabling regimes like the Saudis to continue their terrorism across the region

and many other things....

But you know what? We allowed this to happen! We were complacent. Our ancestors set up a representative democracy, a system which requires an informed and interested electorate and somewhere along the line we lost interest and this is what happened. We let the super-wealthy set up an oligarchy that only represents their own interests. We let them buy the government. A lot of us allowed ourselves to be brainwashed in more ways than I can count.

Not any one regular person is responsible, but the people themselves are collectively responsible to some extent. It's gotta change, and the only way it's going to is if we remove these oligarchs ourselves. If we can't or don't, the world is going to get a lot worse before it can get better.

I know it doesn't mean much, but on behalf of my people, I apologize.

If every American gave it this much thought as you have America and the world would be a better place !

Around the world people are waking up to this scam that's called democracy though. I saw a report earlier about the youths across Europe where between 39%-70% in some places are ready to rise up against their government but I think it's too late for that, and I think the elite out of fear from this awakening will spark an all out war and have us killing each other instead of them.

I also apologize on behalf of humanity cause end of the day American or Syrian don't matter we are all one! As Imam Ali (as) said : people are of two kinds either they are you brethren in faith or they are your brethren in humanity.

The day the Boy Emperor Bush invaded Iraq, this place erupted. The college campus emptied for protest marches. Over in some larger towns there were near-riots.  Highways were blocked. Our mayor , in protest with a bunch of others, chained himself to a bridge blockade next county over which led to a military base.

Some talking heads on places like Faux News said seeing the protests would " give comfort to our 'enemies' ". We shot back that Iraq was not our enemy and we darn well hoped they could see us.

We're getting stronger. The clock is ticking on this nonsense. The young people coming up are pushing it even further. Trump is a setback and he'll do damage, but the US is in for changes.

He was elected by conservative minded Americans such as myself.

Here is a partial list.

lol, who is this "we" you are referring to?  As a conservative American I did not become complacent.  Trump was the best choice to reverse the socialistic direction the Democrats had put the country on.

Not if you don't have the votes, like in November of 2016.

I think it is important to point out to those not living in the United States that the opinions of notme and LeftCoastMom do not represent the majority of Americans.  Yes, you will hear similar statements if you listen to the Hollywood crowd and watch "The View" on a regular basis or visit bastions of socialism such as Berkley.  But, they are part of a far left minority subset of the American population.  And this subset is still so angry about Trump's victory they can't see straight.  Here is the only video appropriate for posting on ShiaChat.

But, if you are an adult, go to youtube and do a "liberal reaction to Trump win" search.  You will see how they react.  You will see they do not care about the democratic process.  And, you will see one reason why the majority of Americans have had enough of this socialist, left-wing, self-entitled segment of our society.

All the Best,

David

@David66 you don't represent the majority either. By "we" I mean compassionate and thinking Americans. If you don't consider yourself to be part of this group, that's fine.

I don't care anything about your political parties. A two party system is incompatible with representative democracy.

Lol!! Not that anything I say will make any difference, but....

Keep living in your own private Idaho,David. We do not represent a " far-left fringe minority". We represent a heck of a lot of the US and we represent the future.  The young people are polling a good ways to the left of their parents. Why? It's not working for them anymore. They kept their noses clean, went to school, and now they are stuck with debt and no jobs. Little  hope to ever get that " American Dream". Something has to change and they will change it. I'm going to be interested in seeing what happens when MidWest Granny gets kicked off of her medical care, among other things. (Good thing I don't have to worry about that, but I do have some altruistic concerns.) Guess Trump wants to kill off his own voter base fast. He should really plan better.

What...we don't have a right to protest our government's decisions about how our tax dollars are spent? It seems there were rock-ribbed Republicans standing next to me at some of the protests and meetings  I've been part of.( Farmers and ranchers don't like the water table messed with any more than I do, it seems.)

BTW....I was not angry when Trump won. Sorry to say  I actually chuckled a bit  because I had kept telling folks that Hillary was such a poor choice. ( She supposedly actually "won" the popular vote...so ,again, I guess we're not as "fringe" as you think we are. If that were true, she should have done a lot worse...lol)

oh, wait...what am I saying anyway...who is this  " we"? I refused to vote for Clinton. Some folks are so quick with that tired old  "self-entitled liberal" label ...and yet the " liberals"  around here in my own county meatspace think I'm definitely not in " their camp" because I'm an " angry ethnic" ,won't put up with the stuff they think I should, hunt "Bambi", and won't sign on to the MLK/Gandhi-worshippers ( or their vision of them) pacifist agenda. I also grew up , what is the PC term? " underprivileged " and had to work my way through school with a ...let's just say ..".very faulty parental support situation" ( another cute euphemism)but I was used to it. There's no place to go from a busted up leaky old trailer but up. I never went to BezerkeIy, haven't had a TV in years so don't know what " The View" is, don't care about Hollyweird's opinion on anything, actually go to church that won't even let women be priests or perform same-sex weddings( gasp!) and have been kicked off of HuffPo ( probably the only supposedly  " liberal " space I sometimes frequent online) more times than I can count for upsetting the dominant culture narrative over there.. (My kids cheer everytime I get  a temp ban again). I have also worked all of my life until I retired, paid my taxes, and raised great kids who are all working and/or going to school and have already contributed to their community in many ways. How, exactly, does that make me or @notme, who appears to be doing similarly (and is a veteran to boot), " selfish " or "entitled"? And yet, alas, the stereotypical denigrating  epithets  are  consistently flung!

:grin:What's a girl to do?

You act as if your version of the future of the United States is the only one that is "righteous."   And, since only your version is righteous you can use any means necessary to denigrate those with different views.  That is what I mean by "entitled" and I think both you and notme fit that description.

Nice rant by the way.  I think it adds to the credibility of my point.

All the Best,

David

David, please stop projecting your own hegemony onto others. How does anything I said illustrate that my " version" is " righteous " or prove any of your points? lol."righteous".....what a word. Is there a paranoia playbook somewhere you folks read from?

My personal political views on different issues are on a spectrum, like most people's. We compromise constantly like all " adults" do. That was why I bothered to write you an ( obviously casting pearls before swine) explanation ...lol...and .calling my explanation a " rant"...yawn...could you please make an attempt to be a little less predictable? My " version" of the US has less to do with " righteousness" and more to do with practicality. Plenty of us want less invasions and bombers( outmoded before they fly.)...and  more education and healthcare.

The kids flocked to Sanders for a reason. He should never have been a factor. They rejected both major candidates. Food for thought because time is on their side.
