Isn't duffer someone who plays golf? I heard a sports announcer use that word.

l searched "duffer + golf" and it said a person of minimal skills, un-witted or worthless(on the golf course) like a retiree who plays once a week with other old friends.

So 'duffer' is the word used within its correct meaning.

Bismehe Ta3ala,

Assalam Alikum Brother Haji,

Mash'Allah, God protect her from all harm.

Thanks Sis.

Hmm. I've got to find some form of test material to assess how she is progressing. I have exam papers for the UK school tests she'll have in 2020, but I'll need to find material to assess how much she knows now compared to what she should.

The last teacher was in Cairo and so this the new one. The last one just stopped online tutoring.

When l was in high skool, people said, "Get off your duff !"  which meant "get off your dumb 'arse' and do (whatever)".

If your daughter is learning Fusah Arabic (or MSA which is for all intents and purposes the same though there are differences) then i can not recommend this youtube channel enough: https://www.youtube.com/user/SRimey/playlists

The author basically subtitled a programme aimed at 8-15 year olds , which is delivered in MSA, and they contain stories of the Quran, women in the Quran, Prophets of God, Animals and the like. It is an excellent way to consolidate on learning, learn how people talk and express themselves, gain vocabulary and make the language more than just abstract symbols on a page.  There are well over 200 subtitled videos, and they are quite good quality actually, and interesting even if someone isn't trying to learn Arabic.

Here's one video:

Also some invaluable resources:

1. Arabic summarised in easy to read tables instructions: https://d1.islamhouse.com/data/en/ih_books/single2/en_understand_arabic_in_12_coloured_tables.pdf

2. 101 rules of Arabic grammar: http://www.mtholyoke.edu/courses/mjiyad/Arabic Grammar Book.doc

3. Word - for -word meaning of the Quran (this is one of the best):  http://kalamullah.com/word-for-word-meaning-of-quran.htmlAWordForWordMeaningOtTheQuran-3.pdf

I also recommend the Medina Series, which contain books going through the Quran as well, in addition to many stories from Dr Abruaheems Viyana (PHD Arabic) website. This is the best course in my opinion for English speakers:  http://www.lqtoronto.com/downloads.html

Everything above is free and online and people can use the links.

One book that is free online, but i can't get the PDF is this particular book i feel that can help strengthen conjugation and getting around the fact in Arabic , for three letter roots there are 10 forms , is this book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/501-Arabic-Verbs/dp/0764136224

Getting your head around conjugation and verb formscan be tricky, especially when it comes to those verb forms which don't follow a particular pattern or change meaning depending on how they are used as well as change meaning depending on the pattern. This book really helps get to grips with that and make it much more palatable.

What also can help is watching halal cartoons. Depending on ones Marji, seeing if you can find shows like Lion King dubbed for MSA (not the Egyptian dialect as many of them seem to be).

Everything i've listed above i have personally  completed (or am on the way to finish) myself, and it has helped me greatly Alhamdullilah. No doubt the gift you are giving your daughter in the form of supporting language learning is going to be arguably one of the greatest gifts. If i ever live to become a parent, no doubt i will inshAllah aspire to do something similar, either teaching myself directly or supporting a teacher to teach.  The rewards for knowing Arabic are endless. Being able to grasp the outer meanings of the Quran, understand the power of the many Duas we shias uniquely have that no other sect does, read classical works, read the works of scholars,  news papers in the ME, far higher quality lectures.
