Saudi forces storm village in Qatif, kill 5 / Pics

Qatif region in Saudi Arabia has been the scene of fresh bloody violence. Saudi forces have stormed a small village in the Shia-populated region, killing five people and injuring an unspecified number of others.

According to local sources, Saudi forces surrounded the village for about 15 hours. They stormed a number of rural houses, claiming they were searching for a number of wanted people.

Saudi rulers claimed the district’s narrow streets served as a hideout for armed men who were behind the attacks on Saudi forces in Eastern Province.

Riyadh then deployed military forces with heavy weapons to the town, while bulldozers escorted by heavily armored military vehicles demolished several houses, businesses and historical sites across the region.

Dozens of civilians were killed during the weeks-long military crackdown. Some 30,000 people also fled the town.

Prisoners who are on a hunger strike deliberately sutured their mouths in protest at their difficult situation and what they are exposed to, according to the images spread over social media. The prisoners sent a letter a few days ago, saying that 18 cases of fainting were caused by the hunger strike, pointing out that they hold the criminal prosecution responsible for their lives because they did not do their duty towards them.

The Associated Press revealed in June a new scandal committed by Emirati officers and their agents against hundreds of detainees in the prison of Bir Ahmed in Aden, and the US agency likened the methods of various officers to torture and sexual humiliation at what was happening in Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq during the period The American occupation.

According to the agency's report, about 15 UAE officers were involved in torture and sexual abuse, considering the report "a window on a world of mass assaults and impunity in prisons controlled by the UAE in Yemen."

Renowned Muslim preacher brutally tortured in Saudi prison

http://en.abna24.com/news//renowned-muslim-preacher-brutally-tortured-in-saudi-prison_924433.html

Renowned Muslim preacher brutally tortured in Saudi prison

A political dissident and renowned Muslim preacher in Saudi Arabia has reportedly been brutally tortured in prison as a crackdown led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman against Muslim preachers and intellectuals widens in the conservative oil-rich kingdom.

The rights group Prisoners of Conscience, which is an independent non-governmental organization seeking to promote human rights in Saudi Arabia, announced in a post on its official Twitter page that Dr. Ali al-Omari is currently suffering from severe burns and injuries all over his body as a result of savage beatings and electric shocks he experienced during his detention in solitary confinement for 15 continuous months.

Saudi authorities arrested the cleric, who had called for more rights for women and campaigned against the violent Wahhabi ideology in his TV shows, in early September 2017, together with a a group of preachers, academics and writers.

Omari is said to have been completely prohibited from visits and contact with his family during his time in solitary confinement.

Saudi officials have also intensified security measures in the Shia-populated and oil-rich Eastern Province.

Eastern Province has been the scene of peaceful demonstrations since February 2011. Protesters have been demanding reforms, freedom of expression, the release of political prisoners, and an end to economic and religious discrimination against the oil-rich region.

The protests have been met with a heavy-handed crackdown by the regime with security forces increasing security measures across the province.

Over the past years, Riyadh has also redefined its anti-terrorism laws to target activism.

In January 2016, Saudi authorities executed Shia cleric, Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, who was an outspoken critic of the policies of the Riyadh regime. Nimr had been arrested in Qatif in 2012.

Protests in Bahrain amid Pompeo's visit

January 12, 2019 - 7:04 PM News Code : 924566 Source : PressTVLink:
Protests in Bahrain amid Pompeo's visit

People in the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom of Bahrain have held anti-regime protests, expressing anger at crackdown on pro-democracy activists.

The protests coincided with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to the kingdom as part of his tour of the Middle East aimed at coordinating an ‘anti-Iran campaign’.

The demonstrators in the villages of Diraz and al-Musalla honored those who lost their lives during the anti-regime protests and expressed their solidarity with the country's most prominent Shia cleric, Sheikh Isa Qassim

Also on Friday, the Bahraini people held protests in the villages of Abu Saiba and Shakhurah to denounce the Al Khalifah regime's crimes and voice their support for the Saudi Shias in the Qatif region.

Recently, Saudi forces conducted a deadly raid on Qatif, claiming that they were searching for a number of wanted people.

The protests were held as Pompeo arrived in the capital Manama.

Pompeo is on a Middle East tour, which has already taken him to Jordan, Iraq and Egypt. He is also set o visit travel to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Kuwait.

"Bahrain is steadily moving forward on the right path to maintain its stability and the continuity of development and progress," Pompeo said.

Bahrain, a key US ally in the Persian Gulf region, hosts the US Navy's Fifth Fleet with some 7,800 US military personnel, as well as a British naval base.

Since February 2011, Bahraini people have been holding peaceful protest rallies regularly, demanding that the Al Khalifah family relinquish power and let a just system representing all Bahrainis be established.

Hamas warns Israeli military against Gaza escalation

Hamas warns Israeli military against Gaza escalation

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has held the Tel Aviv regime responsible for the ongoing escalation in the blockaded Gaza Strip, warning that the movement “will intensify the confrontation with Israel” in the coastal sliver if the Israeli military launches new attacks against the enclave.

“The Israeli occupation [regime] bears the consequences of continuing to commit its follies against peaceful protesters and deliberately killing them in cold blood as well as bombing sites of resistance,” Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a statement on Sunday.

He further noted that the escalation of situation in Gaza and "playing with fire" will never led to security for Israel and its people.

Palestinian Ma'an news agency reported that Israeli warplanes fired at least one missile towards a military site belonging to Hamas east of Gaza City.

Two other sites were targeted, one in the town of Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip, and another in the city of Khan Yunis south of the enclave.

The Israeli airstrikes caused fires to erupt in several targeted sites; however there were no reports of human casualties.

Al-Nusra leader voices support for Turkey's assault on Kurds

Commander of Tahrir al-Sham al-Hay'at (the Levant Liberation Board or the Al-Nusra Front) Abu Mohamed al-Jolani underlined support for the imminent military operations by the Turkish army against the Kurdish population in Eastern Syria.

The Arabic-language Enab Baladi news website, affiliated to the militants, quoted Jolani as saying on Monday that "we support Turkey's action to take control over the Eastern Euphrates region".

He added that the Kurdish forces are considered as the enemy of what he called as Tahrir al-Sham's "revolution", noting, "We believe that these forces should be annihilated and this will happen for sure."

It was the first reaction of Jolani after Tahrir al-Sham's occupation of Idlib province that has forced other terrorist groups to leave the region.

Meantime, sources close to the Ankara-backed militants said earlier today that the Turkish army was rendering logistical support to Tahrir al-Sham.

The Arabic-language al-Watan newspaper quoted sources close to the Ankara-backed National Liberation Front (NLF) militant group as disclosing that their backers are sending military and logistical aid to Tahrir al-Sham in Northern Syria.

They dismissed Ankara's official claims about their struggle against Tahrir al-Sham in Northern Syria, and even said Turkey has called on the terrorist group to continue occupying Idlib province.

The sources said that the recent reports that Turkey has detained 13 members of Tahrir al-Sham in the Southern parts of the country have also been released to divert the public opinion after media criticism of Ankara for its support for Tahrir al-Sham.

“It is part of the war of rumors and psychological warfare, and the attempt to worry and harm the morale of everyone listening,” the recording continues. “I emphasize that life is in the hands of God, but in everything connected to my health situation - I am not suffering from any medical problem [...] I am not taking any medicine. So let’s let the subject go, ” he added.

Syrians, Iraqis defeated Daesh, not Americans: Zarif

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif says the victory over the Daesh terrorist group in Iraq and Syria was the result of endeavors by the two nations themselves and the United States played no role in defeating the outfit

Foreign Minister Zarif made the remarks on Wednesday in a meeting with Iranian and Iraqi businesspeople as well as local officials in the Iraqi city of Karbala.

Zarif pointed to the fact that America has not succeed in combating terrorism in other parts of the world and said success in Iraq and Syria came about because the people of the two countries stood up, fought, and sacrificed lives. “That is why this victory has nothing to do with America but is the achievement of nations in the region.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif also pointed to the commonalities and the long-running relationship between the Iraqi and Iranian nations and called for the deepening of bilateral ties.

He called for the removal of obstacles in the way of bolstering economic cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad.

French troops to remain in Syria despite US plans to withdraw: Macron

President Emmanuel Macron says France will keep its forces in Syria and remain "militarily engaged" in the Middle East despite US plans to withdraw from the Arab country.

Addressing military officials at an army base near the city of Toulouse, Macron said "the fight [in Syria] is not over" and that “any rush to withdraw would be a mistake.”

He also criticized US President Donald Trump's call for an alleged troop withdrawal from the war-torn country.

"The retreat from Syria announced by our American friends cannot make us deviate from our strategic objective – eradicating Daesh," the French president claimed.

Macron also hinted at an extended regional agenda beyond fighting Daesh, claiming that while France seeks to revise its "global military deployment", it shall "remain committed to participating in the stabilization" of the Middle East.

Visiting Israel earlier this month, US National Security Adviser John Bolton suggested that American troops may remain at a US military base at the Syrian al-Tanf border crossing with Jordan to protect Israel from "Iranian expansion."

Last week, the Pentagon confirmed that American troops would not withdraw from al-Tanf.

Iraqi Hashd al-Sha’abi forces kill dozens of Daesh terrorists in Syria

Iraqi pro-government fighters from the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) have carried out a counter-terrorism operation in Syria’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr, killing and injuring dozens of terrorists from the Daesh Takfiri group in the process.

Mosleh went on to say that three militant commanders, identified by the noms de guerre Abu Wadah, Abu Hamza and Abu Fatoum, were killed in the offensive.

On December 31, 2018, Iraqi military aircraft pounded a strategic position of Daesh terrorists in Syria’s Dayr al-Zawr, after Syrians President Bashar al-Assad allowed Iraqi fighter jets to conduct airstrikes against the extremists in Syria.

The media bureau of Iraq’s Joint Operations Command announced in a statement that Iraqi F-16 fighter jets had bombed and destroyed a two-story building on the outskirts of the village of Susah and killed 30 Daesh commanders as they were holding a meeting.

The statement added that the aerial assault was carried out following close surveillance by the Iraqi Intelligence Service.

The development came a day after a high-ranking Iraqi official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Russia's RT Arabic television news network that Iraqi warplanes would be able to enter the Syrian airspace and bombard Daesh sites under Assad’s directives.

US training UAE aircrew in Yemen bombing campaign

A recent report has revealed the US’s active complicity in the deadly Saudi-led war on Yemen, saying the Pentagon runs an aerial combat training program for UAE personnel.

According to an official December 2017 US Air Force Central Command document obtained by Yahoo News on Wednesday, the US “escorted 6 UAE F-16s to RED FLAG; assisted 150 airmen in challenging ex[ercise] to prepare for combat ops in Yemen.”

The file, released via the Freedom of Information Act, also detailed additional support provided by the US Air Force’s Air Warfare Center at al-Dhafra Air Base near Abu Dhabi.

“Unit fighter personnel advanced the UAE’s F-16 fighter pilot training program; 3 pilots flew 243 instructor sorties/323 hrs that created 4 new instructors & 29 combat wingmen who immediately deployed for combat operations in Yemen,” the document read.

William Hartung, the director of the Arms and Security Project at the Center for International Policy, said the training program is yet another example of the deep US involvement in the military aggression against Yemen ongoing since March 2015.

“Syria affirms that Israel’s persistence in its dangerous aggressive behavior wouldn’t be possible without the unlimited support of the US administration and the immunity provided to it by the US and other Security Council member states,” the letter stated.

Bahrain’s Court of Cassation has rejected an appeal against the dissolution of the country’s National Democratic Action Society (Waad).

Monday’s court ruling upheld a May 2017 verdict that dissolved the kingdom’s only secular opposition party over allegations that it was “advocating and inciting terrorism”.

The charges apparently stem from a reference by Waad to three torture victims that were executed by Manama in January 2017, which the party described as “martyrs”.

Other Bahraini opposition groups, including Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society and the Islamic Action Association (Amal) have also been dissolved over similar charges.

Meanwhile, the many thousands of members of these organizations have been banned from holding political office.

Syria threatens to ‘strike Tel Aviv airport’ unless UNSC acts against Israel’s impunity

Damascus has threatened to exercise its legitimate right for self-defense against Israeli aggression and target Tel Aviv airport in a mirror response, unless the Security Council puts an end to IDF intrusions into Syrian airspace.

Apparently fed up with years of Israeli impunity in the Syrian skies and regular strikes carried out in the vicinity of Damascus International Airport, Syria has threatened to retaliate in explicit terms.

“Isn’t time now for the UN Security Council to stop the Israeli repeated aggressions on the Syrian Arab Republic territories?” Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Dr.. Bashar al-Jaafari wondered Tuesday.

Or is it required to draw the attention of the war-makers in this Council by exercising our legitimate right to defend ourself and respond to the Israeli aggression on Damascus International Civil Airport in the same way on Tel Aviv Airport?

Air strikes against alleged ‘Iranian targets’ in close proximity to Syria’s busiest airport have become a norm for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), whose former chief of staff openly confessed last month to running a large-scale bombing campaign in Syria for years. Besides causing casualties and material damage by their “near-daily” strikes, Israeli combat missions into Syria have also repeatedly endangered flights operating over the conflict-torn country.

While the IDF rarely acknowledges striking specific targets in Syria, the Russian military has been keeping a close watch on IDF maneuvers over the Arab Republic. On Christmas Day, Israeli jets endangered two civilian aircraft while engaging targets in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said, noting that the IDF F-16s flew in as civilian jets were landing at Beirut and Damascus airports. In September, Israeli actions resulted in the death of 15 Russian servicemen after Israeli jets deliberately used Russian Il-20 recon plane as a cover and placed it into the path of a Syrian air defense missile.

Placing little faith into Western intentions to bring long-awaited peace to the country, the diplomat noted that Syria plans to restore full sovereignty over its lost territories, including the Golan Heights, which Israel continues to occupy.

“The restoration sovereignty of the occupied Syrian Golan is a permanent right of Syria that [is] not subject to negotiations,” Jafari stressed.

Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War. While Tel Aviv refrained from extending sovereignty over the Golan for over a decade, in 1981 the Jewish state annexed the area. The Druze of the Golan were offered full Israeli citizenship under the Golan Heights Law of 1981, but only a small minority changed their allegiance from Syria to Israel. Syria repeatedly reiterated that the occupied land is an integral part of its territory, and that it will work to return it by all means necessary. Tel Aviv sees things differently.

“Israel will remain forever on the Golan Heights, and the Golan Heights will forever remain in our hands,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in November, after the US become the only state to vote alongside Israel against a symbolic, non-binding UN resolution calling on Tel Aviv to withdraw from the occupied region.

Karim Asad Ahmad Khan, the UN Special Adviser and Head of the team established to investigate the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist groups’ crimes, met with Iraq’s top Shia cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani on Wednesday.

According to the senior cleric’s office, Ayatollah Sistani in this meeting in Najaf underlined the need for bringing the terrorists to justice and making the world aware of the danger Daesh poses to humanity.

He also stressed the importance of supporting the witnesses who cooperate with the UN investigative team, especially those living in areas where they could be targeted by Daesh.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in May appointed Khan as the Special Adviser and Head of the Investigative Team established pursuant to Security Council resolution 2379 (2017), to support domestic efforts to hold Daesh accountable by collecting, preserving, and storing evidence in Iraq of acts that may amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed by the terrorist group.
