Lets see what happens in eastern Syria now.

US withdrawing as Turkey says they will invade to fight what they define as terrorists, I.e. kurdish troops as well. If Turkey actually does invade it will be a direct confrontation between the SDF and the Turks.

My guess is that the Turks will push back the kurds behind the M4 highway, the fate of the city of Mabij is still unclear to me though. Looks like the turkish supported FSA mercenaries will be used in this offense as well, they could possibly be used to attack Manbij while the Turkish army pushes the M4 on the other side of the river. There are however reports of Russian and Syrian military preparing to move on Manbij right now. If the turks actually does invade the north east though, it will most likely be the end of Idlib under FSA occupation.

Long term vision for the Turks is to my understanding to establish a buffer zone along the Turkish border and then build settlements for the Sunni population who are opposed to the government of Syria. Fast forward a bit and I believe Turkey will push for annexation justified with a peoples voting referendum. Similar to what happened to the area of Hatay which was Syrian originally.

In my opinion, the best thing the government could do now is to let the SDF and Turks fight each other in the north east while the government takes back the oil rich fields on the other side of the river in the south east from the kurds.

Once the kurds lose the oil flow, they lose finances and will be without power once again and once again the kurds relied on the wrong people to help them, I.e. the US government. Looks like they took no lessons from what happened to them in Kirkuk or even before that, the US is one of the worst allies you could have.

Who should the Kurds have relied on? Syria?

At the end of the day, America just can't fight other people's multi-generational wars. There just isn't enough domestic interest. Nor should there be.

Personally, I am thankful for the continual removal of American troops from Syria. It wasn't our fight to begin with. Never was in the past, isn't now, and won't be our fight in the future. America can use high tech weapons, but the winner of this civil war won't be defined by who has the better weapons. Rather it's a war of ideologies. It's a situation that isn't going to be resolved by any foreign nation, nor will it be resolved anytime soon. So let's get out and move on with our own domestic deficiencies.

The only reason America is involved in Syria is because of its slave master Israel to begin with.

No, the idiot in office who the American people voted to be the president and ruler did, not even the pentagon knew of his decision until he made it, bypassing his own staff and advisers.

So much for being slaves.

Personally, I think it's a great move. It's about time we let the Middle East take care of its own battles. Now of we can only get the last of our troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq, we will be golden.

Congratulations, your government has moved from being the slave of semites on the other side of Earth to the slave of an orange in a suit with fake hair.

I do however agree with you, the US should have never gotten involved in the Middle East to begin with. From empowering and creating al qaida, to funding and supporting saddam, to making way for daesh to rise, to supporting "moderate rebels" in Syria, its all a series of poor choices made by an ignorant regime on the other side of the Earth who thinks that guns and money can solve all problems.

One of many discussions that won American votes.

America can't control the unpredictable and radical nature of ISIS and the ideology it holds.

Repelling Russia in the 70s with use of Al queda may have been a wise decision generations ago, but the cold war has long since past. Russia's expansionist actions are of little threat to the US. Many Americans weren't even alive in these times and care little about the past.

Responding to the 9/11 attacks with an aggressive air campaign on the Taliban was also justified (did anyone really expect the world's strongest military to not respond?). But without a means of rebuilding, there is no further benefit to the US. Again, our new generation isn't even familiar with 9/11. A memory fading in the history books.

Fighting ISIS has also been justified. But with ISIS in disarray, there is no reason to stay.

It's also true that Saddam and Assad and even Assad's father, have all been unjustified dictatorial tyrants (Saddam's regime has fortunately been dismantled). But it is up to the people of these nation's to defeat these monsters (not America). Because only the people of these lands have the ability to create a nation and government that works for themselves.

I still think Syria would be far better off without Assad. But America cannot build a middle eastern America version 2.0. Syria needs to build it's own democracy. Or it will forever be plagued in civil war. The people need representation and the removal of excessive corruption, and that will not happen so long as Assad remains in power, and it also won't happen as long as foreign powers pick corrupt candidates for the people.

Turkey to launch military operation east of Euphrates in Syria very soon: Erdogan

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says his country will launch an air and ground operation east of the Euphrates in Syria after a deadline to jointly establish a so-called safe zone with the US passed.

“We gave all warnings to our interlocutors regarding the east of Euphrates and we have acted with sufficient patience,” Erdogan said at the opening of his AK Party’s annual camp on Saturday.

“We’ve made our preparations, we’ve made our operation plans, given the necessary instructions,” he added.

Turkey expects the creation of a 32-kilometer (20-mile) safe zone in northern Syria, and has stressed that it wants the US-backed YPG cleared from the region.

Syria has reiterated its rejection of the so-called safe area, and dismissed all projects aimed at undermining the unity and territorial integrity of the country.

“When it comes to the east of the Euphrates (river) … it is our duty to fight,” Salim Idris, a senior commander of the Turkey-backed Syrian militants, told a press conference in southeast Turkey.

“We stand in full force in support of our Turkish brothers in fighting all forms of terrorism represented by the PKK gangs.”

Senior cleric blames US for tragic situation in Yemen

Tehran's provisional Friday Prayers leader Ayatollah Mohammed Emami Kashani lashed out at Washington for adopting destructive policies in the Middle East, underlining that the US is the main culprit behind the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Despite Riyadh's claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi bombers are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures. Weddings, funerals, schools and hospitals, as well as water and electricity plants, have been targeted, killing and wounding hundreds of thousands.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED) announced in late August that the total number of reported fatalities in Yemen has passed the 91,000 mark over the past four and a half years.

France, the United States, the United Kingdom and some other Western countries have faced criticisms over arms sales to the Saudi Arabia and the UAE, whose aggression against Yemen has affected 28 million people and caused what the United Nations calls “one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world". According to the world body, Yemen is suffering from the most severe famine in more than 100 years.

Iranian, Turkish Foreign Ministers discuss Syria

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif and his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, held talks on a range of issues, including the latest developments in northeastern Syria ahead of Turkey’s planned military operation in the Arab country.

Foreign ministers of Iran and Turkey have already talked about the situation in Syria in a telephone conversation on Monday night.

Zarif, for his part, voiced his opposition to any military action and stressed the necessity for Turkey to respect Syria’s national sovereignty and the need to combat terrorism and bring stability and security to Syria.

He also described the Adana agreement between Turkey’s then-president Suleyman Demirel and Syria's late president Hafez al-Assad as the best way for the two countries to address their concerns.

For his part, Cavusoglu emphasized the need to respect Syria’s territorial integrity, saying Turkey’s operation in that region would be temporary.

Turkey seeks to establish a 32-kilometer “safe zone” in northern Syria, and has stressed that it wants the YPG cleared from the region.

Sayyed Nasrallah: US untrustworthy, don’t bet on it

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah on Tuesday called on people in the region not to bet on the US for it is untrustworthy.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA):
In an address during weekly sermon at Sayyed Shuhada Complex in Beirut’s southern suburb (Dahiyeh), Sayyed Nasrallah stressed that events taking place east of Euphrates River are considered a message to the region’s people, referring to US’ decision to withdraw troops from northern Syria, abandoning allied Kurds in light of a planned Turkish offensive in the area.

“It is a message for all the region’s people and all those who bet on the Americans. It’s time for region’s people to look for right choices and to know that betting on US brings nothing but failure,” Sayyed Nasrallah said.

His eminence, meanwhile, stressed the need for awareness and insight in a bid not to be deceived by the nation’s enemy.

“Peoples of this nations have to set their priorities… These are factors of victory, of course in addition to faith,” Sayyed Nasrallah went on saying.

“No one can bet on the US because of its disloyalty. American’s can’t be trusted at all. They break promises and abandon those who rely on them.”

In this context, Sayyed Nasrallah reminded of the stance announced by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei regarding the relation with Washington.

“Imam Khamenei rejected all forms of negotiations with the US. Experience says that the US is not trustworthy for they (American) respect neither their deals nor their allies.”

Houthi on US troops in Saudi Arabia: Learn from Vietnam

Head of Yemen's Supreme Revolutionary Committee has called on the US to "learn from Vietnam" after Washington announced plans to deploy about 2,000 additional troops to Saudi Arabia.

“Your previous forces, weapons and military commanders, which proved that the US is killing the Yemeni people, did not frighten us,” he said.

“An increase in your numbers will surely not be a concern for us,” al-Houthi added.

The remarks came a few hours after Washington announced the deployment of 1,800 additional troops, two fighter squadrons, two Patriot batteries, and a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System (THAAD) in the oil-rich kingdom.

On Friday, al-Houthi called on the United States to “surprise the world” and demonstrate the “little bit of humanity that they claim to have” by turning away from its “hostile policy” despite its role in “creating the worst humanitarian crisis in the world”.

“Such a policy has led to nothing but frustration and harm for you,” he added, referring to recent statements made by US President Donald Trump highlighting the high costs of America’s wars in the Middle East.

Thirty-five people have been killed and four injured after a passenger bus collided with a truck in the Saudi province of Medina, a police spokesman said.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA): Thirty-five people have been killed and four injured after a passenger bus collided with a truck in the Saudi province of Medina, a police spokesman said.

The "private chartered bus", carrying 39 pilgrims from Asian and Arab countries, collided with a "heavy vehicle" in the town of al-Akhal on Wednesday, the spokesman was quoted by official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying.

The agency said the crash happened around 7pm (16:00 GMT) on the road linking Mecca to the city of Medina.

The injured have been transferred to Al-Hamna Hospital, SPA added, and authorities have launched an investigation.

The accident comes after four British pilgrims were killed and 12 others injured in Saudi Arabia when their bus collided with a fuel tanker in April 2018.

In January 2017, six Britons, including a two-month-old baby, were killed in a minibus on their way to Medina after making a pilgrimage to Mecca.

In September 2015, a stampede killed up to 2,300 worshippers - including hundreds of Iranians - in the worst disaster ever to strike the Hajj annual pilgrimage.

Earlier that month, 100 people were killed when a construction crane toppled into a courtyard of Mecca's Grand Mosque.

Young prince named Saudi foreign minister

Young prince named Saudi foreign minister

Saudi Arabia appointed a prince with diplomatic experience in Western capitals as foreign minister Wednesday in a partial cabinet reshuffle as the kingdom tries to mend its international image and prepares to take over the Group of 20 presidency.

Prince Faisal joins a new cadre of top Saudi diplomats in their 40s, including the ambassadors to the United States and Britain, who are siblings.

As part of Wednesday's reshuffle announced in state media, Saleh al-Jasser, director general of Saudi Arabian Airlines, replaced Nabil al-Amoudi as transport minister, Reuters reported.

It was unclear if Amoudi would remain in government. He was appointed last month to the board of Saudi Aramco as part of top management changes in the kingdom's energy sector as the state oil giant prepares for a partial share flotation as early as this year.

Outgoing foreign minister Ibrahim al-Assaf, who had earlier served as finance minister for years, remains a minister of state. He was appointed less than a year ago to restructure the ministry

Assaf had replaced Adel al-Jubeir in December 2018 in a surprising replacement, as he was among dozens of prominent Saudi royals and businessmen detained in Riyadh's Ritz-Carlton in November, 2017, in an “anti-corruption” sweep.

Seven Bahraini minors had their detention extended by a further 60 days on Thursday by order of the public prosecutor.

Bahraini rights campaigner Ebtisam al-Saegh is reporting that the seven are “school students” and that requests for their release had been denied.

The seven were detained in late August and have already spent two months behind bars.

There is no word yet on what exactly the youths are being accused of.

Many of the Bahrainis taken into police custody are routinely held without proper cause and subjected to torture and other forms of ill-treatment.

Israeli forces arrests prominent Palestinian lawmaker for fourth time

Israeli forces have re-arrested a prominent Palestinian legislator and senior member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in an overnight raid into her home.

Her daughter Yara Jarrar said in a post on Twitter that the house was surrounded by more than 70 Israeli soldiers who arrived in 12 military vehicles.

“Mom and sister were asleep when they approached,” Yara said.

The Palestinian lawmaker has been jailed multiple times. She was released last February after spending 20 months in “administrative detention” — an illegal practice under which an individual is held without a trail.

Jarrar, a staunch advocate of Palestinian prisoners’ rights, said after her release that she would continue to campaign for the release of all Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons and detention centers.

According to Samidoun, a Palestinian prisoner solidarity network, she played a leading role in supporting the education of the minor girls held there, organizing classes on human rights and in review for mandatory high school examinations when the prison authority denied the girls a teacher.

Jarrar was last arrested in July 2017, when a large number of Israeli troopers raided her home. Her husband, Ghassan, said Israeli forces also seized her computers during the raid.

Israel’s internal spy agency, Shin Bet, later announced in a statement that Jarrar was arrested along with a Palestinian activist for “promoting terror activities,” without providing any further information.

Jarrar is one of the most outspoken critics of the Israeli occupation and has repeatedly slammed the Tel Aviv regime’s atrocities against Palestinians.

Israel in emergency situation, most vulnerable to threats: Lieberman

Former Israeli minister of military affairs Avigdor Lieberman says the regime is in an “emergency situation” amid heightened tensions in the Middle East means that it is now vulnerable more than ever.

Earlier this week, Netanyahu claimed that “Iran wants to develop precision-guided missiles that can hit any target in Israel within five to ten meters.”

“Iran hopes to use Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen as bases to attack Israel with statistical missiles and precision-guided missiles. That is a great, great danger,” the Israeli prime minister claimed.

Netanyahu has also accused Iraq and Lebanon of housing Iranian missiles, a claim both countries have denied.

Bahraini female detainees speak out about painful ordeal behind bars

Bahraini female detainees speak out about painful ordeal behind bars

Bahraini female detainees Hajer Mansoor and Medina Ali have been speaking out about their painful ordeal behind bars and the systematic abuses that they have been subjected to.

The two were subjected to sham trials and brutal torture following their arrest in 2017. They are currently housed in Bahrain’s Isa Town Women’s Detention Centre.

In a letter published by Ms. Magazine, Mansoor says she has “committed no crime” but was jailed over the activism of her son-in-law and exiled Bahraini human rights defender, Sayed Ahmed AlWadaei.

“I was convicted, along with my son and nephew, without any evidence—but instead with confessions extracted from us under torture,” she added.

Meanwhile, Medina Ali described the constant humiliation they suffer at the hands of prison authorities due to their political status.

“They confiscate our religious texts, isolate us from other inmates, monitor our phone calls and refuse us urgent medical care,” Ali explained.

The two women have only seen their children once over the past year as a result of restrictions on family visits.

“The prison authorities have installed a glass barrier during visits, preventing any physical contact,” Ali added. “To be forced to speak to your child through a pane of glass, unable to hold or comfort them, is too painful to bear, and prevents us from seeing our families.”

She also blasted Manama’s Western allies for turning “a blind eye” to rights abuses in the Persian Gulf kingdom.

“As long as the U.S. and U.K. have a place to sell their guns and moor their warships, they are content for a repressive state to do what they like to their citizens. We urge you to raise our plight with your representatives and let them know that you won’t tolerate their silence,” Ali said.

Yemeni army soldiers and fighters from allied Popular Committees have killed at least six Saudi soldiers during separate attacks in the kingdom’s southwestern border regions as part of their retaliatory raids against the Riyadh regime’s deadly campaign against their crisis-hit country.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, the Chairman of Yemen’s Supreme Revolutionary Committee of Yemen, has sharply criticized Sudanese authorities for the participation of militiamen from the Northeast African country in the Saudi-led military aggression against Yemen.

“The people of Sudan know very well that the last thing that (Chairman of the Sovereignty Council Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman) Burhan, (his deputy General Mohammed Hamdan Doklo) Humaidti or (deposed president Omar) al-Bashir thinks is to defend the sanctities,” Houthi wrote in a post published on his Twitter page.

Hamas shoots down Israeli drone over Gaza

Hamas says it has shot down an Israeli drone over the Gaza Strip where tensions have heightened amid an Israeli threat to launch a ground war on the besieged enclave.

Israeli daily The Jerusalem Post, however, cited some reports as saying that the drone had flown out of the area after being shot at.

Hamas has confiscated Israeli drones several times, either after they crashed due to technical problems or in the wake of shooting them down.

The targeting of the drone comes amid heightened tensions in Gaza where Israeli aircraft launched airstrikes on Khan Yunis and other areas in the besieged strip on Friday, killing a 27-year-old civilian and wounding two others.

The Israeli military claimed that the Friday air raids were launched in response to the firing of 10 rockets into the occupied territories from Gaza.

Following the air raids, a high-ranking official from Hamas warned Israel against escalating tensions, saying Tel Aviv would face the consequences.

A region for gas extraction in Balhaf city, southern Yemen, where French Total Group operates in part of it, is used as a secret prison by UAE soldiers during the past two years, Three non-governmental organizations confirmed.

In a report the three organizations said that the site houses the elite militia, under UAE supervision.

The report added that the testimonies reported inhumane treatment and acts of torture suffered by the detainees in this prison and with the knowledge of the UAE forces.

The French daily Le Monde confirmed the information, saying the UAE is running a prison in a Yemeni gas facility run by the French group Total, based on testimonies from international human rights organizations.

Total contributes 39.6% to the gas liquefaction complex in the southern Balhaf region, estimated to cost around 4.3 billion euros, and is managed by Yemen's local liquefied natural gas company, Total.

Netanyahu appoints far-right Bennett as Israeli war minister

https://en.abna24.com/news//netanyahu-appoints-far-right-bennett-as-israeli-war-minister_986829.html

Netanyahu appoints far-right Bennett as Israeli war minister

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed Naftali Bennett, the head of a far-right political party, as the minister of military affairs following a political deadlock.

Ayelet Shaked of Bennett's New Right party welcomed the move, saying Netanyahu had offered the party a choice of two smaller agriculture and diaspora affairs ministries or just military affairs.

"We agreed that Bennett would be appointed" the minister of military affairs. "I am convinced that this is what is right for ... Israel,” she tweeted.

Bennett, who has in the past called for tougher military action against Gaza, will take the portfolio from Netanyahu, who has simultaneously served as prime minister and war minister for nearly a year following the resignation of Avigdor Lieberman.

Netanyahu fired Bennett, the former education minister, and his ally Shaked, the former justice minister, from the cabinet following the April election.

Bennett's party failed to pass the electoral threshold in the April election, but it entered the Israeli parliament (Knesset) again after running on an alliance of extremist right-wing parties.

"Bennett perfectly preyed on Netanyahu’s paranoia and is now reaping the award," said an analysis published by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz on Saturday.

Israeli energy minister Yuval Steinitz threatened on Sunday that Tel Aviv might have to launch a military operation in the besieged coastal enclave.

Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar said Palestinian resistance groups were ready to confront any aggression as he dismissed a prisoner swap with Israel.

“They don't have a functional government to discuss major issues. They cannot take decisive and crucial decisions at this point and we are ready to face the enemy," he said.
