Two things. 0ne, the news on 15Jan said the US has 2,000 troops in the area. (Where's our Congress? Did they authorize this?)

Second, remember a few years ago when it was revealed that the groups the US were arming and training join al-Qaida or lS? This is a real caveat, l think.

There's an interesting comment by Patrick Cockburn in the UKs Independent newspaper:

Quote

The US obsession with an exaggerated Iranian threat – about which, in any case, it cannot do much – makes it difficult for Washington to mediate and cool down the situation.

The US has an obsession and exaggerates the threat because Israel has an obsession and needs to exaggerate the threat in order to get the US involved.

there is actually no valid reason for USA to have show so much enmity towards Iran. The situation is purely USA kissing up to Israel.

I know, the media deceives people into thinking Assad is some murderous dictator but the majority of Syrians like Assad.

What is Saudi Arabia's end game in Iraq?

#Diplomacy

The Saudi policy of building ties among Shia politicians has taken advantage of fissures within the Iraqi elite with the goal of undermining Iranian dominance in the country

Saudi Arabia is attempting to mend its historically antagonistic relations with Iraq's Shia, at Iran's expense.

In early November, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched a domestic shake-up, as well regionally, ratcheting up tensions with Iran, and sabre-rattling against the Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Courted by Sunni neighbours, Iraq's Abadi seeks to strike balance with Iran

However, as Riyadh seemed to stoke tensions with the region's Shia, there had been a quieter Saudi campaign unfolding to co-opt Iraq's Shia.

While Riyadh has maintained relations with Iraq's Arab Sunni politicians and tribes in the past, beginning in the summer of 2017 it has forged connections with Iraq's Arab Shia political elite as well. In hindsight, this Saudi strategy has sought to undermine the relationship between Shia Iran and its co-religionists in Iraq.

The regional cold war

Emile Hokayem wrote recently in the New York Times that the Saudi crown prince's actions to ratchet up tensions in Yemen and Lebanon are counterproductive. In the Middle East, he writes, "the balance of power is determined in Syria and Iraq".

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdel Aziz planned visit to Iraq is considered a crucial step towards boosting Iraq's relations with Arab countries instead of Iran that is controlling Iraq's political and economic process, analysts told The Baghdad Post.

1. Iraqi News sources reported that the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sought audience with Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani recently but the Great scholar flatly turned down the request due to Saudi orchestrated genocide in #Yemen.

2. Saudi rulers desperately want to counter Iran's influence in Iraq on behalf of their Genocidal European masters. Iran solidly stood by Iraq when the #ISIS savages invaded Iraq and occupied large chunk of Northern Iraq.

3. When Mosul fell, Gen Qassem Sulaimani arrived Baghdad in less than 24 hours. The ISIS savages threatened the Shia Holy sites on behalf of Saudi-led Global Wahhabism. Gen Qassem Sulaimani went to the city of Samara and declared that the ISIS savages must not enter the city.

4. Today these same bloodthirsty Saudi Wahhabi savages who sponsored ISIS in Iraq want to counter Iran's influence in Iraq. Iraqi nation must stand against these tools of genocidal European savages in the Islamic world.

UNITED NATIONS: Saudi Arabia on Tuesday presented a $930 million cheque to the UN for humanitarian aid in Yemen as the UN chief pushed for an end to the war in which Riyadh leads a military coalition.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres thanked Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the contribution, but stressed that the war in Yemen requires a political solution, and not just a humanitarian response.

“There is no humanitarian solution for humanitarian problems,” Guterres said after receiving the check, which also came from the United Arab Emirates

The word Syria reminds me the following:

S - Saudi Arabia

Y - Yemen

R - Russia

I - Iran, Israel and ISIS

A - America

The country that does not fit in scenario by words is Turkey.

The above mentioned countries are directly or indirectly linked to the situation in Syriia.
