Do you agree with the Raiders' move to Las Vegas?

What are your thoughts on this move? Is it good or bad for the sport?

My two cents:

There are a number of factors at play here. Economic, cultural, and moral.

Starting with the economic: I really feel bad for the people of Oakland. The NFL owners once again are blackmailing the public into funding their stupid stadiums, and it's absurd. But the people of Oakland have been suffering for a while now from being priced out of their neighborhoods thanks to stupid tech companies headquartered in SF or San Jose. So nothing new there.

At the same time, the Raiders have a nationwide and even international fanbase so it's not quite the same as the Chargers leaving San Diego or the Rams leaving St Louis.

But then again, most of their fans are in California. And now the team is moving to a very small media market with a very low potential for building long term relations with its local fans (if there will be any).

I think for the first time in my life, I heard something smart on sports talk radio recently. Someone was suggesting that this was a sinister move by the NFL to muscle the Davis family out so they can take full potential of one of the NFL's most recognizable "brands."

After all, with the current share that Mark Davis has of the team (forty percent), and his debts outweighing the worth of this share, it is not inconceivable that Davis may soon be the odd man out.

Anyway what do yall think?

Do you support the move?

I personally don't think Las Vegas should have sports teams, NHL, NFL or otherwise.

From a business perspective, it makes sense to move to a new, better stadium with more luxury seating and corporate boxes. That will definitely generate more revenue. TV revenue should remain constant whether they play in Oakland or LV based on their loyalo fan base and national recognition.

As an avid sports fan (like you), I think the move is wrong. But the NFL is a business and other than Green Bay, all teams are free to move about the country as they see fit.

I think you mention the crux of the problem:

It's a business.

The business side has trumped everything else. This has even permeated players and coaches' attitudes as well. They think: my bosses are only looking after number one, so I will do the same.

Team owners are all making a ridiculous amount of money regardless of winning or losing. Players know this.

This is why athletes like Russell Westbrook are so refreshing.
