What to make dua for?

Salam,

When making dua it is said that Allah (swt) will either answer the dua of a person, or he will save it and reward them in the after life or he will divert an equivalent evil away from them. Is it good to make dua for everything that you might want/need even if they are worldly things such as a car, phone, clothes or anything of that sort that a person may want? Or is it only recommended people stick to bigger issues like asking for Jannah, find a spouse or get married, for good health and maybe a job?

Also, if a person makes dua but he doesn't really mind if they are not answered because he wishes to be rewarded in the hereafter with his unanswered dua, would that intention be good or will it essentially nullify the dua?

Ask Allah simply for everything. Even if its the slightest thing to your eye. All belongs to Him and He can grant you whatever of it because in our trials & our darkest hours it is Him who cares, it is Him who's always there. And it is Him who can unburden us and put relief to our hearts. All we need is putting belief in Allah. I swear miracles happen. They do. I have seen em happen. It's all about how much you expect from Allah. It's all about that.

Wa alaykum Salaam.

It is recommended to beseech Allah for everything we need whether small or big. That is in fact a sign of belief and an absolute trust in Allah. More importantly that there is nothing we can do without His permission and wishes.

Meanwhile, it is necessary that while we are supplicating to Allah, we should be certain that He is going to answer positively to our supplications and that our wishes will be granted.

However, we should not be so much desperate in our request from Him to such an extent that if our supplications are not granted as we desire, we concluded that our supplications are not answered. He always answers the supplication of a supplicant any time He is called. But He out of His mercy and kindness, He gives us what is good for us at its appropriate and best time, because, at times, we may like a thing but which is bad for us and likewise, we may dislike a thing but which is good for us.

Allah knows Best.
