I have noticed that women are referred to as "Bibi ".

Why is this and what does it mean?

The Arabic word Habibi means "my love" so when someone calls a woman Bibi it is a sign of endearment or high respect.

Its an urdu word, rooted in arabic, for "lady". Lady as in the female version of a Lord.

so when we Say "Bibi Fatima (sa)" we are saying "Lady Fatima (sa)"

"BiBi" is that we call our grandmother. Most Arabs refer to their grandmother, especially from their fathers side, as Bibi
