Speakers and querying hadith authenticity

Thanks for that info. I do have one easy way to determine the hadith authenticity though.

Quran 45:3

"Which scripture (hadith) do you bring against this Quran?"

If there are accusations like the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihe wasallam) marrying Aisha at age 9, or calling other things with no Quranic basis authentic hadith, don't buy it.

Arguably one of the most beautiful posts written on SC. And this is the tragedy of humanity, i fear the majority of SC users will not bother to read, let alone appreciate the importance and insight of what you have written here.

The problem is you might not in fact be comparing the hadith to the Qur'an, but comparing it to your own personal morality (which itself might not be from the Qur'an). This could lead you to reject all kinds of hadiths that are actually sound.

That could happen, but I do have Quran proof.

Quran 4:6 "Put orphans to the test until they reach a marriage able age. If you find them capable of sound judgement, hand over to them their property..."

Quran 17:34 "Do not interfere with the property of orphans except with the best of motives until they reach maturity..."

From this we determine that the marriage able age is when one is capable of sound judgement and has reached maturity (puberty). It's possible Aisha was 9, but she would have reached maturity by then.

Apart from islamophobes, nobody argues that Aisha hadn't reached puberty. That was the whole reason between the delay between contracting the marriage and consummating it.

Exactly, that's what I said, but even Salafi clerics in Saudi Arabia are saying there is no age of marriage and women aged 8 years old are being married off.

There is a difference between contracting a marriage and consummating it. In Islam you can be married before puberty, but the marriage can't be consummated. This is the case in Shia Islam as well as Sunni Islam.

Am I as a Muslim required to believe this?

It's not one of the fundamentals of the religion or anything, so I suppose it doesn't take you out of Islam to not believe it. Rationally speaking though, I'm not sure what the objection would be. Obviously it's not something that we would want to practice in our context, but remember that Islam wasn't sent just for people in our context.

But from the verses I quoted we can determine that marriage age is age of maturity, and in the majority of the world for the majority of time, maturity was achieved as puberty. Where did you hear otherwise? Probably from Imam Khomeini, who was a great leader but no infallible.

Perhaps you know Islamic Law is taken from both the Holy Qur'an and the Hadith.

Yes but which comes first? Quran.

Quran 45:6

"Then in what exposirion do you believe in after rejecting Gid and his signs?"

The word used for exposition is حدیث

So which Verse contradicts those Hadiths? And perhaps you know that many of our Fuqaha allow such marriages?
