Only people online call me a " hippie". Lol.

I could be in an all black business suit and not saying a word and people would still call me a hippie. It's odd, but I got used to it. Would you believe I've actually been called a hippie while wearing an army uniform?

I love this composite photo of a suspected water plume on Europa:

@LeftCoastMom @notme

Anyone who cares about anybody is a hippy these days lol.

Although my friends might actually have reason to think I am a communist... my visits to FB are usually spent reading posts on a few Muslim pages I visit and liking random socialist memes lol.

Well, it would be a shame if anyone who sticks up for other people or who gives a darn about the world we will hand to our children is labeled a " hippie" or a " commie" ....but I'll wear it with pride if that's the way it is.

PS....that meme page is a scream. Laughed a lot.

Especially the Onion Weather Forecast! :D

Mum: So Sila dear, what did you get up to on the internetz today?

Sila: Oh mum, I spoke to a random Native American aunty who uses the word Left instead of East and whose son in law is a Shia about all sorts of social justice issues and the evils of the free market (lol).

Oh, and I converted her into a Sassy Socialist Memes follower on the TwitFace.

Mum: Just a regular day at the office, son.

I love social media....

"It's go time! Watch our livestreams this evening from outside Hofstra University, where the first presidential debate is being held.

Then stay tuned for a livestream at 9 p.m. ET where I #OccupyTheDebates by inserting myself with my own responses!

Afterward, I'll answer your questions through a Twitter Q&A. Use the hashtag #HeyJill!"

@notme

SG has been hard at work in his spare time on the garden...getting it ready for winter and planning or next year. He is becoming quite the farmer and has been caucusing constantly about plant science with my son,the botany guy. So , given his apparently religio-genetic attachment to a certain large male feline ,DD found this for him:

I'm switched towards wet East Asian style "sticky rice" as opposed to the dry rice of "my people". No regrets.

Shrimp rice with veggies is so delicious. :D

Cute but annoying: my 18 month old loves letters, but his favorite is the letter "M". He likes to sit on my lap while I'm looking at my phone, and whenever he sees an "M" he calls out "emmmmmmm-uh!" and excitedly taps it, wreaking all kinds of havoc on whatever I'm trying to read, watch, or type. He knows several other letters too, but he only gets really excited about "M".

I have yet to see the Prezuhdenshul debates. Will look at the you tubes. Had to go to an event tonight and was continually being vibrate-buzzed on my phone by my kids and SG, texting regarding the Hillary-Donald face-off..

Was difficult to keep a straight face through the lecture. I guess I am in for a treat.

" OMG, mom,this is a train wreck."

" Why can't the idiot just answer a stupid question?"

" They should just shut up about ( fill in blank) they are embarrassing themselves."

" Each of them are trying to say they didn't say what there is video of them saying"

" This is like watching two monkeys scream and throw manure at each other."

etc.

I am normally not a food nationalist. I can't tell you how many times Pakis try to drag me into this "debate." At the end of the day, everyone should concede that our tastes are shaped mostly by upbringing.

But with respect to rice, I am completely unforgiving. Nothing is better than Iranian rice. I am referring to the plain rice, not biryani or estamboli polo or any of that stuff. In plain rice, there is no contest: aroma, color, taste. Iranian rice beats them all.

To all of you living in the UK, or anywhere else where there are clouds and stuff:

I bet y'all are SUPER JEALOUS of the paradisical climate we have over here in California.

Yeaaaaaaaah, take that, peasants. You can't afford a half a million dollar house or inflated techie rent so don't even THINK about daring to impurify our perfect paradise with your lowly presence.

@hameedeh Because we are a "language nest"...that means we are a designated family working on language revitalization, we often have folks still learning the language here who come by and we often have to reinforce it for ourselves as well.

We have a whiteboard where my kids will put up a phrase or word in English and then our language just so it's always there for anyone to practice. It will stay there for a few days.

Shortly after the marriage, we noticed Arabic appearing on the whiteboard under common words.

Cheeky SG.

So my daughter in law decided to mess with him yesterday and put

RACCOON!!!!    TAKE THAT SG!

today Arabic lettering appeared as usual. ( I figured he'd just phonetically written it out)

But According to DD it says " Trash Bandit! LOL!"

There are clouds here, but the entire LeftCoast seems determined to burn down anyway with the drought,so.....hope that is not near your house.

It has been a cool summer, but it has been warm and muggy the last two days and nights. Because before that  it  had got  really cold at night and I  climbed up in the closet ,got out, and  proceeded to put all the winter blankets on all the beds.

That's why.

So the brother of a friend of mine recent;y started suffering from limb paralysis in all four limbs from elbows to the fingers and knees to feet. Now this friend from a remote area with tears in their eyes told me about his condition. Being closely related to several doctors and having a slight knowledge in this field I started to ponder and talked with the patient. I asked him if he had frequent or bad headaches in the past which he did in fact. Then also a smoker and father of 5 in his early 30s. I could not put my finger on it, usually I can not unless it is something simple. So, I returned and googled about paralysis. The word is nothing compared to reality. As I viewed various related pages of information I was overwhelmed with gratitude that I am not suffering from all those conditions. I also felt very ashamed of my repeated complaints out of ungratefulness to God. Because being free of ALL those so much of such terrifying medical conditions is truly a great blessing. Medical science is in its diapers at best. Health is wealth, really. Don't waste your health because it is priceless, and be thankful for it. Each day we live well and good is a great day and no matter what good deed or worship we do can not repay the price.

You know what's incredible? The state of masjids today. They have become places where people let loose, don't care about cleanliness or decorum, take everything for granted, focus on petty things, and don't take responsibility for anything. Where educational activities are only for small children, but nothing for teenagers or adults. Where women are cramped in small, uncomfortable closet sized spaces because men have to spread themselves along a wide area in the main room for no reason. If men moved forward, there would be plenty of space for women to be behind them, and they can feel more involved in the main activities. Instead, the women are back there, not paying attention to anything of substance, wasting time in useless gossip and meaningless talk. Kids running around, screaming, and nobody doing anything, as if the masjid is just a giant playground. I mean, my god, in churches, kids have to dress up in suits, sit quietly, and be on their best behavior. This is a complete disgrace. We should all be absolutely ashamed of ourselves.

If you acted the way we do in the masjid in our outside professional lives, you'd be fired. Unless you work in a halal store or restaurant (rant later).

Nah, man. In churches they take the kids out to the nursery or to Sunday school. Agree with the rest though, at least last time I went to one.

X] Kinda agree.

Y] How true.

Z] When our spacious masjid was built 20 years ago, large enough to be nationally featured, the women were -and are- 'confined' to a 2nd floor platform ... well, it is more like an unfinished attic.

Don't any of the muslimas degree in architecture or civil engineering? (yeah, l know they do but they never design mosques, apparently.)

I'm a civil engineer and I would love to work on a mosque or Islamic center design. I'd do it for free if it's Shia and relatively local to me, close enough that I could visit anyway.

The only time I've ever been asked to work on any Islamic project was designing an access road through a cemetery. They pulled me off the project and replaced me with a landscape architect. That's ok though. I bet the road turned out pretty.

In my job, I've worked on lots of churches, church campus, and Christian schools. Do Muslims just not build things, or I just haven't crossed paths with them yet?
