Don't touch it, consult a plumber to investigate first

^ That's good advice. Perhaps a neighbor knows what the previous owner did there. Or you could ask the real estate agent who was in charge of the property.

Oh but the only reason I've resisted until now is that I've got a potty training toddler hanging on my leg all day every day, along with more urgent repair and maintenance tasks. You know I'm going to investigate it myself eventually. I can't resist. (I'm not just a mom with an awesome new house - I'm also an engineer.)

I saw a small cat going into our crawl space. I guess closing up those access holes should move up the repairs priority list. I will have to look up how to make sure I'm not closing any animals in when I replace the door/panel.

Before you know it, some people will start posting exclusively on one Thought thread or the other, over time each of them will have their own culture, cuisine and colours.

Muslim women and infants attacked in New York. I just hope the attacker gets the psychological help she so desperately needs.

This is what an environment of fear and hatred creates. Humans are really weird. I'll probably never understand.

As I said in the "Trump" topic, if it comes to it, some of y'all can hide in our barn until the war is over.

But then, I guess me being on shiachat doesn't help.

Something about a really good book makes me forget that a body needs sleep.

Edit: I think I just scared my son. I heard doors opening and closing so I went to investigate. I told him that if he's going to be awake in the middle of the night he is not allowed to walk around or open and close doors. I think he thinks he made enough noise to wake me - and I'm apparently very scary when people wake me unnecessarily. I can hear him now very carefully attempting to silently tiptoe to his room. I think I can actually hear his flinch as the floorboards creak.

Anyone else feeling drowned these days? Hope everyone is staying positive.

Yes. Drowning is an understatement. But as soon as I came for Ziyarah, it all just went away. I dread the day that I have to go back home and go back to drowning in dunyawi issues and in anxiety.

I'll keep you in my prayers and will make dua for you by the shrines inshaAllah.

I've decided to change things up a bit, and be more active in places I'm normally not, namely the chatroom and religious debates (especially Sunni/Shia and interfaith). Don't know if anyone has noticed.

The chat room confuses me. I rarely go there.

It does for me too. I guess its an acquired taste.

I used to go in chat a lot more than I do now, though I was never a chat regular. It really requires undivided attention to be able to follow what's going on if there are more than a few people on.

There are different kinds of discussions: Discussions based on knowledge/information (events in history, knowing the rejal in ahadith etc.), analytical discussions (Analyzing matters and differentiating between things), and discussions which are both information-based and analytical.

One may have a powerful mind, but if they don't possess required information, they won't be able to take part in many discussions. For example, a Shia individual may have memorized all the Sunnis' books and as a result is able to prove Sunnis, from their own sources, that Shia is right. This comes because of attaining information. But to respond to the criticism that "if you are not Sunni, so it means you don't believe in Sunni's books so how come you are trying to prove your Maz'hab through another Maz'hab's sources?", here you need a little bit wisdom and power for analyzing matters and differentiating between things.

People like you and @baradar_jackson who have a more categorized mind than many of us should attain more and more knowledge and information so that you can join more discussions and in different parts of them. Needless to say, it doesn't mean currently you don't possess a good amount of knowledge.

I was just watching the headlines. Syria and other things.

Thinking back, when l was young, news like this was interesting and exciting. Now that l am old, l am really sick of watching what is really suffering. l wish the decision makers were sick-of-it too.

Could you expand on this more?

@magma

That's simple.

1) Everyone can gain knowledge as much as they want. But not everyone has a powerful and categorized* mind to use it in different subjects. However,

2) Even if you possess a powerful mind, as long as you don't have required knowledge on a specific subject, you won't be able to use this powerful mind in certain parts of discussions. This way, sometimes you just can be a viewer and detect the logical fallacies within someone's approach and not more than that. Although it's a useful role in a discussion, but it's limited.

So, now that one has a more powerful mind compared to ordinary individuals', their knowledge/information shouldn't be at the same level as ordinary people's. Especially when we are talking from a religious perspective and the duty to defend the right path, this (gaining knowledge for such individuals, particularly on important and controversial issues) can be seen as a duty.

-------------

* By categorized mind, I mean a mind that is able to tell the difference between apparently similar things and put/deal with everything in its own place.

Look at this little guy:

I found him on the walk path to my office at like 5 in the morning, he was just sitting straight in the middle of the walk path and he wasnt moving at all, I thought maybe it was dead because he didnt even react to my finger so I picked it up by its wings softly because I didnt want someone to walk on him and then he started to kick his legs around, so I put him down on the side of the walkway instead but still facing the same way as it was before, who knows maybe he was in the middle of his fajr salaah?? He was actually facing Qibla! SubhanAllah!

Haha, I like all creatures :)

But insects are so underrated I think, people just kill them without thinking twice, they'll kill them like automatically, so you'll see a spider indoors and instead of like picking it up gently and throw it out the window, people just smash them :/

I used to always catch insects when I was young and ask my mother if I could keep them as my pets hehe, one time in Iran I even tried smuggling one of those huge cockroaches when we were flying home from Iran.

Also one time I tried catching a bumblebee, I caught it gently between my two palms, and it was making such funny noises so I started to shake my hands and then it sting me :( It was the first time I got stung ever and the last time I try to make a bumblebee my pet.

Luckily for me, later in my childhood the gameboy came out and so did Pokemon, so then I only started to chase digital pets :) Oh and also I bought the tamagotchi, lol I remember the first night I had it, I couldnt sleep because I wanted to take care of it, man, kids are stupid!

@IbnSina We've had some construction and drilling going on in the house so insects have been popping out everywhere. I found this cockroach in the bathroom today, I freaked out and smashed the hell out of the poor thing. I don't think I've ever used my chappal so violently.

:O !!

Rest in pieces, why does he only got 4 legs though?!
