chapter 18

almighty Allah says: o, son of adam! be patient and be humble and i will elevate you. thank me and i will increase your bounties. seek pardon from me, and i will forgive you. call upon me, i will answer you. ask of me, i will provide for you. give alms in my way, and i will bless you with bounties. be kind towards your relatives, and i will add to your age by delaying death. seek from me good health as long as you are healthy. and while you are alone seek safety from me. seek sincerity in purity. seek piety in repentance (tawba). seek worship in knowledge. seek independence in contentment. o, son of adam! how can you be curious of worship when your stomach is full? how can you enlighten your heart by sleeping a lot? how can you have fear of Allah with fear of poverty? how can you seek the pleasure of almighty Allah by degrading the poor and the beggars?

Salam Alaikum,

I don't know if this is right or not, but to me it means that one having fear of poverty is still concerned with worldy possesions and how he lives his life in this world (material wise)...and one concerened with his material possesions does not have complete and utmost faith in Allah (swt) and the hereafter...

that's what I make of it...

Salam

how can you have fear of Allah with fear of poverty?

Can someone explain this further?

We must never forget that poverty lays not in the amount of how much wrinkled paper with a stamp of an old wise man we have (or lack of it), the weak servant dares even to say it is not limited only to what is otherwise known as money.

In the Words of Imam Ali(A) from Nahj al-Balagha, Prophet Dawood(A) was a King that possessed a Kingdom not seen by Human eyes ever before, yet each day he sewed baskets with the leaves' of date trees - this was the simple living of a person in charge of the treasures of all the heavens and the earth!

Another example from the life of our dear Prophet(S), whom once was asked wether he wished to be a kingly prophet, and would then be given a kingdom beyond Prophet Dawood(A) and Sulayman(A), or a poor prophet, where upon he chose the latter.

Why this?

He himself answers this, "2 Persons can never satisfy their desires, the seekers of the World and the seekers of Knowledge".

One can have 10 dollars, and still be greedier then a starving hyena, or he can be a king dwelling in contentment, without any care of money.

Poverty and in the poor writes eyes, it means lack of desire for a certain object, usually money. Have all the money of the world, but if you desire it not, nor it controlls you, you are still in a state of (spirituall) poverty.

But one cent, and you are pierced with the greedy arrow of Shaytan, and it will turn into your descruction.

However afterall, imaine yourself having 10 dollars to give khums upon (very simple) and having 1'000'000 dollars (Very hard), and in the latter one is defenetaly not in a state of (spiritual) poverty so he can fear and Love Allah, rather he falls under the category of this heart breaking Verse;

Have you seen the one who has chosen his desires as his lord? God has knowingly caused him to go astray, sealed his ears and heart and veiled his vision. Who besides God can guide him? Will they, then, not take heed? (45:23).

May Allah save us from such an evil end, falling all deeper into the bottomless dark abyss of desires, not seeing the Light of Allah wishing to pull us up, open our eyes and make us realize that the only cure for us to break the shackles of lust and fly beyond the vault of heaven, is nothing but acting upon this verse, By no means shall you attain to righteousness until you spend (benevolently) out of what you love; and whatever thing you spend, Allah surely knows it. (3:92)

For the sake of briefty, the pen of the writer broke there, but if further eloborations are sought, then let us hold hands and together dive into this shoreless oceans as seekers of the gems of knowledge!

And Allah knows best to whom all praise is due.

Now that I re-read the question, I think I've missunderstood it.. :( :squeez:

I spoke of the how poverty helps ones spiritual perfection and wayfaring, but now that I see again, it seems the question was how it helps ones journey towards Allah by fearing poverty - am I correct?

If that is the case so we'll try to grasp that point as well, by filling our hearts with sweet knowledge of answers to that beautiful question Insha Allah....the coin do have 2 sides, just as the Day has the Night !

Imam Ali(as) on Fatima Az Zahra(sa)

“She was a fragrant flower of Paradise. Her fragrance perfumed my mind even after she herself had withered.”

Veiled into the night

a starlit rose cry

love’s agony caught his sight

passionate fire flared their breath

divine emotions kissed every might

a desire to touch her hand

deeper she fell into this light

tears of true lovers…

separation’s pain upon their heart write

she ascended into mystical dimensions

and he was left alone to fight

The stars embrace the moon

like Ali love Zahra

sweet love’s melody tune !

secret hearts feel my beat

a taste makes me swoon !

my Layla whispers within me

roaming the desert like Majnoon

until my eyes behold you !

The Holy Prophet(pbuh&hf) said about Imam Hussein(as)

Hasan and Hussein are the leaders of the Youths of Paradise.

Hussein is from me and I am from Hussein , Allah befriends those who befriend Hussein and He is the enemy of those who bear enmity to him.

Whoever wishes to see such a person who lives on earth but whose dignity is honoured by the Heaven dwellers, should see my grandson Hussein.

O my son! thy flesh is my flesh and thy blood is my blood, thou art a leader, the son of a leader and the brother of a leader; thou art a spiritual guide, the son of a spiritual guide and the brother of a spiritual guide; thou art an Apostolical Imam , the son of an Apostolical Imam and the brother of an Apostolical Imam; thou art the father of nine Immas, the ninth of whom would be the Qaim (the last infallible spiritual guide).

The punishment inflicted on the murderer of Hussein in Hell would be equal to half of the total punishment to be imposed on the entire sinners of the world.

When the Holy Prophet informed Hadrat fatimah of the Martyrdom in store for his grandson, she burst into tears and asked, "O my father! when would my son be martyred?" "In such a critical moment," replied the Holy Prophet," When neither I nor you, nor Ali would be alive." This accentuated her grief and she inquired again, "Who then, O my father, would commemorate Husayn's martyrdom? The Holy Prophet said, "The men and the women of a particular sect of my followers, who will befriend my Ahlu l-bayt, will mourn for Hussein and commemorate his martyrdom each year in every century."

Some Ahadees-e-Rasool(pbuh&hf) about Imam Ali(a.s.)

===================================================

Our beloved Prophet Mohammad(pbuh&hf) has praised Imam Ali(a.s.) on numerousoccasions and has given him various titles. Some of the Prophet’s(pbuh&hf) sayings about him(a.s.) are as follows:

(1) Of whomsoever am I Maula, Ali(a.s.) is his/her Maula as well. O AllahÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì

keep love with the one who loves him(a.s.) and keep enmity with the one who

keeps enmity with him(a.s.)

(2) I am the city of Knowledge and Ali(a.s.) is its gate. Whoever wants to get

knowledge should come to its gate.

(3) I am from Ali(a.s.) and Ali(a.s.) is from Me.

(4) Allah(swt) has created me and Ali(a.s.) from the same one Noor.

(5) Ali(a.s.) is Kull-e-Imaan (Total Faith)

(6) Ali(a.s.) is to me as Haroon(a.s.) was to Moosa(a.s.)

(7) Ali(a.s.) is the distributor of Paradise and Hell.

(8) Ali(a.s.) is my brother in the world and hereafter.

(9) Looking at Ali’s(a.s.) face is Ibadaah.

(10) Talking about Ali(a.s.) in your gatherings and meetings is Ibadaah.

(11) Ali(a.s.) is with Quran and Quran is with Ali(a.s.)

(12) Ali(a.s.) is with Haqq (truth) and Haqq is with Ali(a.s.) – O AllahÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì

turn Haqq in the same direction in which Ali(a.s.) turns.

(13) Ali(a.s.) will lead his Shias (followers, believers, friends) on the day

of judgement.

(14) O Ali(a.s.), you and your Shias are the people of paradise.

(15) One who keeps enmity and jealously with Ali(a.s.) will never enter

paradise.

(16) The example of Ali(a.s.) is like the example of Kaaba. (my comments:

Remember that in the quran Allah(swt) states that Kaaba is the guide of

momineen)

(17) O Ali(a.s), your body is my body, O Ali(a.s.) your flesh is my flesh, O

Ali(a.s.) your blood is my blood, O Ali(a.s.) your soul is my soul.

(18) The one who loves Ali(a.s.) loves me and the one who loves me loves

Allah(swt); the one who is jealous of Ali(a.s.) is jealous of me and the one

who was jealous of me is jealous of Allah(swt).

Note: All these ahadiths have been quoted with varying wording from renowned

books of our Ahlus-Sunnah brothers.

The Commander of the Faithful (Amirul Mo'meneen) Ali (A.S.) says,

"If you could see that has been seen by those of you who have died, you would be puzzled and troubled. Then you would have listened and obeyed, but what they have seen is yet curtained from you. Shortly, the curtain would be thrown off. You have been shown, provided you see and you have been made to listen provided you listen, and you have been guided if you accept guidance".

Salam un Alaykum,

This is not a typical narration, but it is a narration:

"One day in Paris a person came and said: 'The Americans have come to take an interview with Imam Khumayni, and this program shall be broadcasted live. If such an action transpires than naturally other European countries would follow suit, and this can be effective in revealing the stances and movement of the revolution.'

Incidentally it was a Friday. I came to Imam Khumayni and informed him of the matter. He said: 'Now is the time of doing the recommended acts-the Friday ghusl, not the time for an interview.' When he had performed the recommended acts of Friday, he said: 'I am ready for the interview.'"

'He who understands the Ahlul Bayt, understands the world. He who understands the world understands Mohammad. He who understands Mohammad understands his creator and he who understands his creator, understands the Ahlul Bayt.'
