Masjid of Kufa

Recommended Posts

Salam,

According to Shia Islam there are not three but four sacred mosques.

The two in Hejaz, the one in Al-Quds and the one in Kufa.

The last one however didn't even exist during the life of Rasulullah and Kufa was build under the reign of Umar.

Then how come that this Masjid is considered sacred?

My second question is; What are the proofs for the Masjid in Medina and the one in Al-Quds to be sacred accoring to Quranic and ahaadith texts?

Holy prophet p.b.u.h said.
A prayer in my Mosque ( Al-Masjid an-Nabawi ) is better than a thousand prayers
in other mosques except the Al Haram Mosque and the Aqsa Mosque

Salamun alaykum.

As for Majid al-Nabi in Medina:

Shaykh Saduq in his Thawab al-A'mal, p. 30

Prohpet Muhammad (pbuh): A prayer in my mosque is equal to 10000 prayers
in other mosques except for Masji al-Haram where a prayer is equal to 100000 prayer.

As for Masjid al-Aqsa:

Shaykh Saduq in his Thawab al-A'mal, p. 30-31:

Imam Ali (as): A prayer in Masjid al-Aqsa is equal to 1000 prayers.

salam. dear brother building of mosque Kufa under the reign of Umar doesn't mean that was his order as we have lots of mosques in the kings time but those mosque established and built under the command of Islamic scholars

But there can be diffirences. Ahl al-Bayt a.s. themselves? Shia scholars or Sunni scholars?

The scholars under the reing of Umar for example. I dot consider them the same as someone who was a scholar following Imam Ali a.s.

Salamun alaykum.

According to some narration, the mosque of Kufa was built by Prophet Adam and rebuilt by Prophet Noah:

Shaykh Saduq in Man la Yahzuruhu al-Faqih, vol. 1 p. 230:

and some narrations tell us that many Prophets have said prayers in this mosque:

Al-kafi, vol. 3 p. 492:

If Im not mistaken, it was Salman Al Farsi who chose the spot of Kufa to build a city for Arab militants. He was asked to choose a spot that is suites Arabs.

Kufa is an ancient spot that was called Kutha.. it is where prophet Ibrahim was born and according to narration attributed to imam Ali, the origin of Quraish clans ( including Bani Hashim) was from Kutha in Iraq.
