:bismillah:

Assalamu Alaikum (wrwb),

I have two specific doubts.

1) Can I recite dua kumayl in different parts over a period of time? Like first 20 lines now and a break of few hours and 20 lines after?

2) Salat al layl. - Can I first read 4 (2+2) rakahs and take a break of 30 minutes and pray the rest?

the answer of your both question is yes you can because both if them are not Vajib and you  can even do some part of them and not the all. you can read the one last Rakah that is Vitr. and this is consensus in the Maraje.

Except you have to pray all 11 rakats.

2-rakats * 4 - namaz-e-shab

2-rakats - namaz-e-shifa

1-rakat - vitr

Breaks in between are okay.

as i told before it's not necessary to pray all 11 rakats and you can only pray 1 rakat as Namaz-e-eshab. for more you can read this in persian: http://www.hawzah.net/fa/Book/View/45320/34118/احکام-و-مسایل-نماز-شب

Actually I heard some time before that the Holy Prophet (S) prayed salaat al-layl with breaks in between, in this way: He would wake up, make wudhu and pray two rak'ahs and then he would sleep; then he would wake up, make a new wudhu and pray another two; and so on.

Not that it matters much, but the correct transliteration is: Salaat al-Shaf' and Salaat al-Vatr
