How much Qur'an a day?

:salam:

How much Qur'an should we read everyday? Is it better to recite a few verses with understanding? Or alot of verses?

Narrations tell us that we should try to read atleast 50 ayah a day. Reading them on it's own probably isn't too much of a problem but it's reading them all with tafseer that can be long. So is even reading 10 of those 50 verses with tafseer a good practice to establish?

Bismillah.

Salaam.

To recite the Qur'an is, itself, light and brings you light. So the Qur'an says:

فَاقْرَؤُا ما تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْآن‏

"Recite from the Quran as much as possible!" (73:20)

As it has been mentioned in Ahādīth, the minimum is 50 verses but it doesn't mean that if you only can recite 10 verses every day, you are not allowed. We have to do our best to recite it everyday -10 verses or 50 or more -.

The second light that has been emphasized upon a lot by the Qur'an and Ahādīth is pondering on the verses.

Therefore try to balance between these two lights.

With Duas.

Narsis.

Salam

O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! (1)

Keep vigil the night long, save a little (2)

A half thereof, or abate a little thereof (3)

Or add (a little) thereto - - and chant the Qur'an in measure (4)

Just see, the Quran itself, rather then several narrations in this regard, insists on reciting the verses of the holy Quran. It is much valuable which Allah commends his prophet to reduce his sleep to increase the reciting the Quran.
