Salam aleykoum,

I am not against the principle of death penalty because islam say thay death penalty must be used against some crimes.

But from your point of view is it normal that there are so many death penalties in iran ?

I read recently that since the election of Hasan Rouhani there had been anything like 2000 exécutions and Iran is the country where there are the most death sentences by year after China...

Do this number of 2000 exécutions is correct or its propaganda ?

if its correct what is your point of view about that ? Do you think its normal ? During the era of Muhammad saws there had been so many death penalties ?

Thanks for your answers.

This is some fact exaggerated by some propaganda.

The matter of fact is that Iran is the most serious country in fighting drug smuggling. It is the main route for international smugglers going from Afghanistan to Europe. It has over 800 kilometers of borders with Afghanistan. And also one of the main targets of terrorist groups like PKK, Mujahidin, al-Qaeda and other organization.

Drug smuggling is punished by death. So is murder. Therefore, death penalty rate is high. But how high? 1000? 2000? Who knows. Propaganda gives a high number.

But let's reverse the situation. Why is Iran, with such high risks and problems of fighting, and responsible for more than 90 percent of world's drugs stopped and seized, denied any help by international organizations? Why do they help Saudi Arabia and not Iran? What double standards are going on here?

Im partially agree with you but I have some questions . Why Afghanistan didnt kill many drug traffickers like iran ?

Well its true that there are many terrorist groups in iran but does it really explain all these death sentences ? For exemple im maybe wrong but al qaida didnt do terrorist attacks since à long time in iran and mojahedin also .

And where did you find your number of 90 %  if drug stopped by iran ?

If the convictions are "good" -not sloppy, not contrived, reviewed, etc.- l do not care how many are executed.

About 20 years ago, l read a paper about the number of deaths Iranian police had for a time period fighting the drug trade. I remember the number as 2500. In an American newspaper sometime after this, the American paper was commenting on how comparatively easier the American police have it.

Afghan army doesn't have enough resources to fight drug trafficking; and they are busy fighting with Taliban. Terrorists did not have any accomplished missions in Iran, but some terrorists from ISIS, al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups are captured before action, every now and then. The largest terrorist organization working directly in Iran was Jundullah in Southeast Iran which was destroyed a few years back. They had many missions and killed numerous people.

Well, now the number of 90% was something I heard once from Iranian officials some years ago. Here is the more accurate numbers in this link. It is about opium and the number is 74%. And Iran-Afghanistan border is 1,923 km. I was wrong but the point is clear. How much international aid should Iran expect considering the amount of drugs, and the casualties of Iranian forces? ( More than 3,700 national law enforcement officials have been killed and over 12,000 have been maimed in counter-narcotics operations over the last three decades. )
