Salam Alaykum,

I am visiting Toronto, Canada for the first time for a week. Any suggestions on good halal food restaurants? Do most of the stores/ restaurants accept Credit cards or would you advise us to carry cash and if yes how much? I also want to visit the Masjid in Toronto and if there is any in the area around Niagara falls? I would really appreciate it if you could suggest some good tourist attractions too? Any assistance or advise will greatly be appreciated. Ahsant

It's  not much different from the USA.  Credit cards are accepted everywhere. Bathurst is beautiful. You  will love it. Try Bamiyan  (not sure of the spelling). Such a good restaurant. You don't need a lot of cash,  but avoid credit card fees.

Any details about the shia masjid in Toronto and if there's any in Niagara falls? Any contact of the person who runs the masjid will greatly be appreciated. Do you reside in Canada?

Jaffer.org is their website.  JCC is Bathurst.  There are a lot of jamaat's under them. I don't know of one in  Niagara Falls,  but there is one in London  ON.  It's mostly  middle eastern.  Really nice Community. I do live in Canada.

Assalaam Alaikum, Alhumdulilah you will be very surprised to know that there are awesome halal restraunts literally on every corner here in the General Toronto Area. Here's a good list of the best restraunts

I would personally recommend that you atleast goto Affy's (best halal steaks in town) and Hero Burger (a famous burger chain, all their locations are halal here). Credit cards are pretty much accepted anywhere, but having a little cash on hand would also be useful. As for the major attractions definitely check out the CN Tower in downtown Toronto and Niagara Falls. As for masjids near niagara falls I'm not sure, but there are NUMEROUS locations near downtown/Markham. The best one (personally I feel) is the Jaffari Community Centre at Bathurst as Smiles786 said above, other notable ones are the Imam Mahdi Mosque on Bayview and the Imam Ali Center in downtown Toronto (that complex is actually 3 Imam Barghas attached side by side, a Persian one, and arab one and a Urdu one). Also I was researching online could you please explain what exactly is North Toronto, South Toronto, West Toronto? What is the best desi restaurant in Gerrard street and the best Mithai (desi sweets) place?

North Toronto =Richmond Hill,  North York. West Toronto is Mississauga,   Brampton. South might be downtown. East is Markham/Scarborough  area

 

Best Mithai is al karam. They have snacks too

There are literally hundreds of halal restaurants in Toronto, what kind of food do you like? There must be well over a hundred in Mississauga alone.

Why don't you check all the halal restaurants in Toronto here: http://www.zabihah.com/ it can even tell you how close to your current location they are. Mississauga has a lot of Desi places.

Toronto Island is worth visiting as well.

the best hussayniah then is the Urdu/English hussayaniah known as imam hussayn association hussayniah in east end of Toronto, the alim there is maulana faharat hussayn musawi from hydarbad. you have not given Toronto its rights if you do not visit this great hussaynia, they are the only hussayniah in Toronto area that has 90 days of amal for rajab'shaban/sharulramadan 68 majalis nightly for hussayn as, 21 majalis for Fatimah as, they have been working for imam zaman as since 1972. my teacher recited English there for 15th of shaban.

as for restraunts ali baba downtown is best arab food. others I don't know.

That's the best part about Toronto. I was shocked by the availability of Halal food literally in every part of the city (including many downtown places).

Coming from Chicago where its pretty much the opposite (you have to search on zabihah.com for a place to eat) it was a pleasant shock. I always gain a few pounds when I come back from Toronto.

Depends on the area you're looking for. A couple famous ones are Demetres (recommend it), BB Cafe (Iranian place), Symposium and Williams Cafe.

Lol :). Alhamdullilah we just got to missisauga, canada today.. tomorrow we are heading to hamilton, ontario. MashAllah I must say Canadians are blessed with all the halal restaurants so easy to access in many areas.. and the chicken shawarma wraps are seriously to die for.. thy r just too goood. 

We visited Al karam sweets.. its not that great as compared to Tahoora sweets in Devon, chicago and the samosas there are to die for, lol.

Goto Pak sweets on Dundas, it is in Mississauga, one of the best sweets around, Samosas are good too.

If you want a good karahi visit Karahi point on Islington, get the half karahi as it is cheaper and comes with 2 naans.

Grillin hut is also decent,  so is BBQ tonite (has good Hyderabadi biryani).  Tandoori Time has the best seekh kababs. If you want Afghan/Pakistani BBQ items with rice then try Bamiyan, quite popular with most people.  All of these are in Mississauga.

you might want to look at Gerard bazar which is a whole street by Gerard and Coxwell of Indian/Pakistani shops. Lahore Tikka house is the one of the most famous restaurants there IMO. 

 

it is similar to Devon bazar in chicago

There is Imam Ali Iranian Islamic Centre near Eglinton and the DVP, and as for restaurants there is the Shabestan Cafe on Yonge and Steeles, Tehran Kabob on Yonge and Finch plus many more in the North York/Richmond Hill area. You should try and visit the conservation areas near Hamilton which are great for canoeing and fishing. Toronto is great for biking, but it's super dangerous, especially near Chinatown and Front Street. Have fun in Toronto!
