Salaam Alaykum,

It's interesting that when we work on projects etc we have gantt charts and milestones. Has anyone taken this approach to one self's development?

I know we have methods such as self accounting at night time before going to sleep. Has anyone applied a full structure to their self development and progress?

Would love to hear thoughts even if you haven't and how you would go about it.

Shukr

waalikum Assalam, I once tried that self accounting process, but it got boring (to be honest.)  Now I focus on my deeds, like when I am doing something, I know whether its right or wrong...so I try to avoid a bad thing. But I'd love to have an advice or suggestion on how to improve my personality...?

You need someone who embarked on a spiritual journey (via a teacher as well) to assess your progress. Only a learned spiritual teacher ['Arif] can tell you which level [manzil] you're on. A spiritual teacher will also give you your own tailored A'amal to do, because not everyone's the same.

I have no exact idea about this issue but I can give some advises:

1. Every person has his personality so if he wants to achieve self's development, he must try to find out his good and bad characters.

2. After that he must provide a program to develop his good character and remove his bad ones.

3. Because of what is said in numbers one and two, this program must be personal, practical, possible and provable.

4. As an example if you find out that you suffer from jealousy, you must provide a practical program to treat this immoral illness. Don’t take a decision to remove it without specifying the way you try to remove it, and this way should be related to your ability.

For instance, decide that in this week (not more) try to control yourself in situations that you feel jealous. This time to control yourself is possible also provable; at the weekend you can understand how well you were successful.

NOTICE:

During this program, praying God to help you to perform your program is the essential factor.

If you find out the verse from Quran that indicate to your character or behavior, you are going to develop or remove, take it and recite it when you encounter the situation you need it.
