You've posted that several times already. Is that really the worst allegation you can bring?

Are you sure brother? My marja allows it (FYI I don't follow the leader), and he(may Allah swt lengthen his life) is listed by the Jameh al-Modarresin (The Association of Teachers, the most top-notch Ahlul Khibra one can get) of the Hawza Ilmiyyah of Qom as one of the six most 'alam maraji currently(just in case you come trashing his credibility).
Marhoom Sheikh Lankarani (rh.a.) allowed it too, and so did Imam Khomeini(rh.a.) What's your point?
Bring proof that chess as we know it now is the same as it was in the time of the Masoomeen(asws).

I wonder if Ayatollah Khamenei would have such a large percentage of the following if he wasn't the Rahbar ?

actually, he(may Allah swt lengthen his life) would have a greater percentage of followers if he quits the post of the Rahbar. There are several people (i've heard them say this personally) that they don't deem him worthy of being followed as his marjaiyyah is "too tainted with politics" (I wonder what their take on the Imamate of Ameerul Momineen[as], Imam Hassan[as] and Imam Rida[as] would be), and if only he were more "apolitical", they would have happily followed him.

Then come the tattered accusations of "oooh!! he doesn't even have a risala!!" and that "oooh!! he is so taken up with politics that he couldn't even write a risalah for his followers", and the ancient fairy-tale that he was "promoted" to the rank of mujtahid so that he could get the Rahbar's post. They have begun to sound like broken records now, going on and on !

Some of us have really wonderful rational faculties !!!

He wouldn't bother being a marja if he wasn't Rahbar.

Where's shaykh al-foqaha ayatullah bahjat r.a name then?

Where is Ayatullah Ruhullah Khomeini RA then? The poll was for the Ulema who are still alive.

If anyone follows a marja who passed away, may Allah be merciful to him, then they can vote using the last option, Other, not listed above.

It's vitale that we choose marja' based on his knowledge and not if we rather like him or him.

It is always necessary to follow the most learned Mujtahid. There are three ways of identifying the most learned Mujtahid:

a)one is himself a learned person and is able to identify a Mujtahid or an A'lam;

b) when two persons, who are learned and just and possess the capacity to identify a Mujtahid or the A'lam, confirm that a person is a Mujtahid or an A'lam, provided that two other learned and just persons do not contradict them.

c)when a number of learned persons who possess the capacity to identify a Mujtahid or an A'lam, certify that a particular person is a Mujtahid or an A'lam, provided that one is satisfied by their statement.

He does have a book called Practical Laws of Islam which has anything a resalah would. He's done wonders for Iran too. Poverty has gone way down and Iran has a self sufficient military. They are even giving irrigation products to farmers.

You guys are killing me, let's just get to 100...

A successful accurate pol should not have to much of the influence of the one making the poll

I recommend you also try to make this more random by posting this on other forums that don't have anything to do with fiqh you can ask for mods/ admins permission if you want

Sayed Sistani and Imam Khamenei are the two most followed marjas in the world. I wonder who their followers will follow next once these two individuals pass away (may Allah prolong their lives).

I plan on following Ayat. Bashir Najafi after the passing of Ayat. Sistani.

However, I will be also keeping an eye and ear towards Ayat. Seyed Reza Hosseini Nassab in Toronto since he is living in the West and would be much more knowledgable about matters specific to this part of the world.

That being said as I mentioned above Ayat. Najafi would be the one who I give taqleed to.

Ayatollah Hosseini Nassab is good but since he's a new marja I don't think he has that level of knowledge yet to be considered the most knowledgable.

Inshallah none of our maraja pass away before the return of our Imam (aj).

So inshAllah my next marja' will be the Sun Behind the Clouds himself.

Salaams to you all!

It's good to see this poll (May Allah SWT protect them all and bestow a long life to them). Sorry to hijack this post.

Firstly it is so good to see conversations about fatwas of different Maraja being discussed and

My grave concern in recent times is the number of people disregarding taqleed altogether. I have heard words like fixed framework, how do you know who is elite and how can you trust those who identify the elite. Comments like they have their own agendas, many saying that taqleed didn't exist 200 years ago yet I see that even the Imams (AS) appointed Jurists in their time!

This is a real worry as it is unwravelling the Shia mazhab or indeed dividing it. Other comments like Qur'an and Hadith is sufficient for me (this is from the youth of our very communities) and whilst I don't wish to disrespect them but how have they suddenly become more knowledgable to even interpret Hadith ahead of those who have spent their entire lives devoted to the Qu'ran and our Masoomeen AS?

There is no harm is questioning fatwas and the Maraja are more available to us than ever before yet people are choosing to totally disregard them as not necessary...

I would be very interested to hear from those who have written in this topic as well as those who don't follow a Maraja, maybe I'm missing something here? This post isn't out to offend but I just feel shocked by how many say they no longer need to do taqleed :( and they are definitely not scholars themselves.
