due to the possibility of working with riba? I want to get a job in college that pays well, so I can support myself even before I get my degree...I was thinking either working as a bank teller, or as a postal worker.....the problem with bank tellers is that they might work with riba (interest), and the problem with postal workers is that the post office business in the United States is dying due to growing technology.....what should I do?

There are two types of bank transactions:

1. Forbidden bank transactions: Usurious transactions and representation for enactment of those transactions, recording, documenting, notarizing or bearing witness to such transactions, taking the extra amount that is from usury which benefits the recipient. Similarly forbidden is doing business that involves companies that do usurious transactions or are involved in the business of wine, like selling their stocks or helping open credit for them. And being employed in the sectors mentioned is impermissible and one who works for them does not deserve his salary.

2. Permissible bank transactions: That which does not involve the transactions mentioned above. Paying and receiving a salary for such permissible forms of bank transactions is permissible.
