Moderators Popular Post notme Posted April 22, 2016 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted April 22, 2016 Salam alaikum I'm putting together a list of very concrete rules for living in any society. I'm not looking for religious rules or abstract ideas like "be kind". I'm looking for quantifiable absolute things like "don't take things that aren't yours". This is for my son who has autism. 1. Don't take things that aren't yours. 2. Don't look through people's things without their permission. 3. Don't hit people who are weaker than you. 4. Don't hit people who are stronger than you unless they hit you first. 5. Tell people "thank you" when they do something nice for you. 6. Do not shout unless it is an emergency. 7. Choose your words appropriately. 8. Keep yourself healthy with the right food and exercise and enough sleep. 9. If you see someone who looks like they need help, offer help without being asked. Is there anything else I should add, or can I word anything more clearly? What are the rules that are essential in ANY society? If people only speak when spoken to, nobody will ever speak. Perhaps this one could be "listen and think before you speak." What do you think? Does that expires the same idea? Advanced Member Shian e Ali Posted April 22, 2016 Advanced Member Report Share Posted April 22, 2016 Treat others the way you want them to treat you. Avoid the ones who're rude rather than answering them back. Speak only when needed
Advanced Member strangelove Posted April 22, 2016 Advanced Member Report Share Posted April 22, 2016 If someone tells/shows you something and you already know/have seen it, don't just say that you've seen this before. React and respond to what they told/showed you. I don't know if you'd consider this a concrete rule but doing this is nice and prevents hurting the other person's feeling. notme

Folks with autism spectrum disorders have a tendency to ramble on topics they find interesting without noticing whether the person they are talking with is interested, and tend to even almost be shy and uncomfortable around small talk. I can't think of a very concise way to make a "rule" or "rules" about conversation.

Sort of like those people who say that immigrants should all just stay in their home lands instead of "our" country? I always think those people are idiots. What I'm asking is how would you explain what you suggest? If you can't communicate it, talking is just making noise.

I always think those people are idiots. I always thought they were smart but racist as well , like when you ask white america why you don't want immigrants to come , they reply with they not like us , so the problem they have is that they not white or christan not that they are immigrants . and I don't welcome immigrants but it's for many other different reason , first my country is in bad economy and we have many unemployment youth , so for what reason would my country take in immigration if they can't even find jobs for their own citizens . Quote What I'm asking is how would you explain what you suggest? If you can't communicate it, talking is just making noise. I don't understand your question , learning the people language is the first step toward doing the other thing on the list . Advanced Member guest10716 Posted April 23, 2016 Advanced Member Report Share Posted April 23, 2016 Golden Rule: One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself (positive or directive form). One should not treat others in ways that one would not like to be treated (negative or prohibitive form). What you wish upon others, you wish upon yourself (empathic or responsive form).
