Can't say that I disagree with the Panthers on their response to a protest, I'm not a supporter of any type of supremacist group but you gotta admire them for not taking any sh*t from anyone and having an effective response to a protest. Now, I doubt if anyone was ever going to actually fire a bullet but a show of strength like this really can shut up a bunch of cowardly protesters.

Makes you wonder if this is the only way to respond to the protesters.

This showed up on my FB from someone and I decided to put it over here to see what you folks thought of it. I know the NOI isn't accepted by many mainstream Muslims. However, Not sure either side thought this was just about " Islam", though. 

The African-American side sure didn't.

Your question is troubling, but valid....when do you go to this extent? and another question Is still out there...what would be the response if the reverse happened?

 

Having weapons on one or both sides can be a nightmare for law enforcement and lead to things going very bad very fast. But this is not the first time a minority group came " strapped" and were left alone after that. It's a calculated risk.

I've always favored a measure for measure defensive posture on things like this. I'm of the mindset that if they brought a gun then why can't we?

They've come armed for a reason, so why can't we defend ourselves? I know many will consider that a flawed logic to a degree and I'm not promoting it, but when another party comes armed I think it behooves the other side to take equal measure to defend itself.

That having been said, these types of idiotic armed protests are nothing more than a pissing match. No one ever fires a gun (for that matter the guns are usually not even loaded) but its an idiotic Testosterone display in which people of lesser education and intelligence decide to make themselves feel important to status quo but in actuality just end up exposing their provincialism.

I saw that part but they are equally misguided as those gun-wielding idiots on the opposite side, they think a black man is superior to a white man. This is not what Muhammad (saws) or the Ahlulbayt (as) preached, in fact our Prophet said: "Surely all of mankind – from the time of Adam until our time – are like the teeth of a comb (all equal to one another) and there is no greatness for an `Arab over a non-`Arab and no greatness for a red-skinned person over a black-skinned person, except due to one’s consciousness of Allah (taqwa)". (Ikhtisas, vol.341.) I believe we can defend ourselves from these "freedom fighters", we don't need Nation of Islam to defend us, our role model is Amir al-Muminin (as) . If we live by his example, then we should have nothing to fear as I am concerned.

I thought about taking my AR and going to one of the armed mosque protests last year.  Of course speaking with the law enforcement about it ahead of hand.  But I decided against it.  Just too much can go wrong, and in the end it's just not worth it.

It appeared from the comments to be more of a racial issue. When the defenders were saying " we're not our great-grandparents " I doubt they were speaking of Muslims.

As far as what little I know of the NOI theology from reading about the earlier life of Malcolm X, it is really unusual. Neither Islam or Christianity teach any form of supremacy. I won't speak for Islam, of course, but you wouldn't know it by some followers of Christianity. The folks who tormented their great-grandparents were Christians.

I remember feeling intrigued by Malcolm X after studying him in 5th grade American history, very charismatic fellow. Didn't  quite understand the NOI part though but the intriguing part for me was his Hajj and assassination. Yeah, I saw the effects of centuries of the racism in the South, really affected me. In a way I wish we were never deployed to South Carolina but it happened nonetheless.
