Hi, Salam-Aleikum... I been hearing about this website for months from my brother but I just never went on it but now that I am finally taking my new journey of becoming a better Muslim seriously.... I want to know what some of your favorite quotes from the Najal Balaga or any quotes you heard from one of the 12 Imams are? One of my favorite quote that I am always drawing on papers and et cetra is by Imam Ali (a.s.)

"Be like the flower that gives its fragrance to even the hand that crushes it"

Thank you for answering !  :)

Welcome .

It is so difficult to point out to " a" favorite quote from Imam Ali, as each are a jewel on its own.

I will share a few which I use more:

~Seek the Truth and you shall know it's people.

~Follow principles not personalities.

~ I sat at the gate of my heart ( Aql ) and let no one in except Allah.

~ and many more ...

"I sat at the gate of my heart (aql) and let no one in except Allah"

Is that how the hadith goes? I've never seen it with the "Aql" Part. :worried:

Salam,

Sorry OP, just a quick explaination to the jannahismygoal.

The word Qulb according to Ahlul bayt generally refers to Aql- intellect.

Imam Musa Kazim:

Oh Hisham! Allah says: (50:37)

Verily in this is a message for anyone that has a Qulb, meaning "Aql "

Tufatul Uqool , Al Naas, pg 401

*********

It is thru intellect that we obey and worship Allah, so anything that you let into your reasoning/intellect  that is against Allah has to be disregarded.

That is why Allah says in the Quran, abandon sin inside and outside, this can only be done if you sit at the gate of your mind/intellect for not to let anything in it, apart from Allah.

The input devices for content to enter the mind, thoughts and Aql is the eyes and ears.

That is why Allah says in the Quran, your sight and hearing will be questioned in the day of judgement.

The pumping heart is the source of result of emotions processed in the brain which is the area for the intellect.

For example after processing and thinking about a man/ woman you are in love with in your thoughts and mind, which results in physical feelings, emotions and sensations in the pumping heart.

Wa alaykom salaam,

Jazakallah kheyr for the elaboration. I just wanted to make sure as to whether or not this was part of the hadith, but not I understand that you were referencing what Qulb means.

May Allah swt grant you the highest place in Paradise INSHALLAH for accepting the truth. Sister ZainabAmy, You have a higher rank to Allah swt than most Muslims that were born into Islam. I wish my own blood sisters had 1/8th of your Iman. You truly are guided to the right path and I pray to Allah Azawajal to make you one of the women of Imam Mehdi's helper INSHALLAH. I have read your story and every time I see your name here sister, I pray for you so God Almighty keep showering you with good health, happiness and grant you Janatul Ferdows in the next life INSHALLAH.
