AS I have told you all before, I have panic disorder and autism....my psychologist suggested something called a paleo diet, where I stop eating grains, dairy, and vegetables that were not around at the time of cavemen or other early humans.........i have heard about grain free diets before, and my special ed teacher of the past and my psychologist have said that research shows that dairy causes autism....is there any proof to back this up? i need help right away, as i had a panic attack at school on wednesday, the last day of school for that week, (no school for thursday or friday) and i lost many points on my points sheet (i go to alternative school) because i tried listening to ruqyah for social anxiety, and when my parapro told me to turn it down, i got into an argument and when he said it was bothering others i told him they could go to hell.....also, i kept asking to leave class and call my mother, and lost more points......i have already dropped from level 4 to level 3, and i am borderline dropping from level 3 to level 2, as i can earn a possible 108 points in 3 days, and already lost 14, and need 85 percent to stay on level 3....i need to stay on level 4 and have 5 or less incidents in my target behaviors in the last 6 weeks to leave alternative school, and my dad says i can't go to turkey to visit relatives until i've been out of alternative school for a whole year......im in 11th grade now..but anyway, does this diet help, and how do i control my behaviors?

A.a. i am not a nutritionist nor in any way qualified to give nutrition advice but i do know someone who had allergy related autism and was told to take goat or camel milk/milk products as the protein in them is easier to digest. They were also told to take plenty of cabbage in their diet plain, steamed not over cooked or over spiced, to avoid all artificial coloring and preservatives and to avoid excess spices particularly "curry powder" and mustard.

Many people with autism have digestive issues and are helped by gluten free diet. You can try it, it won't hurt you. It might not help either.

This woman is a doctor and she cured her son's autism.  She says that the brain and the gut are made from the same tissue during the development of the embryo.  Obviously the two get specialised as they further develop but they start from the same layer of tissue (I don't know if that makes sense because you could argue that the whole body is made up of two zygotes to begin with) but that's her thesis.  She says that there is therefore a very strong link between the gut and the brain.  She then prescribes a diet to cure autism which has had a very high success rate.  Here is the link to her website  http://www.doctor-natasha.com/gaps-book.php

If you have panic disorder it is extremely important you must cut out completely all caffeine from your diet. So, no coffee, tea, chocolate, coca cola (in case you drink this), but I'm sure you must already know this.  You must also completely cut out refined sugar, so no sweets, cakes, biscuits etc.

Another extremely helpful thing for you to take for panic attacks is magnesium.  Magnesium is extremely calming for the nerves. This is an extremely important mineral, but don't buy capsules or tablets because they contain harmful fillers.  Eat foods rich in magnesium; almonds, sesame seeds, cashew nuts, spinach, chard, potatoes etc.  Meat and dairy contain virtually no magnesium.  Also eat a lot of foods rich in vitamin C.  Magnesium can work better if there's vitamin C present. Don't take vitamin C tablets because it's normally not the kind of vitamin C your body recognises and your liver has to work hard to get rid of it.  Only take vitamin C supplements if it says L-ascorbic acid.  If it doesn't say 'L' then it most likely is the wrong type.  Take Epsom Salt (magnesium sulphate) baths, no more than twice a week otherwise you could have an unpleasant detox reaction. The quickest way to get a significant amount of magnesium into your body is through the skin. I would highly recommend reading 'The Magnesium Miracle' by Dr Carolyn Dean MD.

Another very important nutrient for the brain is DHA and EPA you can get algae oil or fish oils.  Fish only have these fatty acids in them because they get them from the algae further down in the food chain.  If you're eating a lot of nuts and seeds for the magnesium it is extremely important you take these EPA and DHA.  Nuts and seeds are inflammatory because they contain a lot of omega 6 fatty acids.  DHA and EPA which are omega 3 are anti-inflammatory.  Flax seed doesn't contain EPA or DHA but is advertised as omega 3 so be careful and make sure it is DHA and EPA, and not flax.  DHA/EPA are very important brain and eye nutrients.

One final nutrient that might help is Lithium orotate 5mg.  Lithium is a trace mineral the brain needs.  The Lithium prescribed by doctors is not the same thing.  They prescribe a form which is not very bioavailable so they prescribe very high doses which therefore cause many problems in the body.  Each tablet is 200mg.  Whereas Lithium orotate 5mg a day is a fraction of the dose.  You'd have to be taking one a day for four months for it to equate to a day's dose the doctor prescribes.  Swanson's Lithium ororate 5mg - you can get this on Amazon for just under £5 and should last you two months (one a day).

Last but not least, try and take a brisk walk 30 minutes three times a week minimum.  You can do more but this is extremely important to get rid of the adrenaline in the blood.  People who suffer from panic attacks suffer from chronic stress which means you've got these stress hormones circulating in your blood stream more than you actually need so you need to work them off by walking or doing whatever exercise you like.

The first thing I would to today is go for a walk/jog/run/swim/cycle and then go and buy some Epsom salts and take a bath.  Use the whole kg.  You need it.  You can do the rest as and when.  I can't stress the magnesium thing enough.

Hope this helps.
