Can dua istikhara be used for determing which sect is right in islam

Salam

My friend said that he would do dua istikhara on wether sunni or shia islam is right. Is his dua going to have the right answer. If yes, then doesnt that prove once and for all which sect of Islam is on Haqq

Allah has given human beings a precious gift of Aql. One has to use his intelligence and understanding to differentiate between right and wrong.Has he compared the teachings of both the sects? Has he contacted the Ulmas of both the sects to clear his doubts.This is the most absurd and outrageous use of Istikhara.How has he reached the conclusion that either of the sects is right?Why he is not inclined towards one or another?If istikhara was a solution to such problems then there was no need for any guidance from Allah?(Why?).Because before doing any thing or forming any belief one can do istikhara and get to know what he has to do?Also which istikhara will he use?Of which sect?How does he know that this process of istikhara is right(or wrong).Ask him these questions and let us know about his views.

Since you asked this question in the Thinkers discourse, I will ask you to think about it yourself.

When the prophet initially first started inviting people to Islam, did people ask for istekhara? 

Was the whole Quran even revealed then? And even if it was revealed was it in form of a book which we have now ? Even if it is dream istekhara , did the prophet tell people to do a dream istekhara to see, if they should become muslims , leave alone sunni / Shia ?

This is the best guide for an intelligent person in any matters of religion from Quran:

Who listen to speech and *follow the best* of it. Those are the ones *Allah has guided,* and those are people of understanding.(39:18)

I did the istikhara by drawing lots after 2 rakat mustahab salat followed by duas and drew lots. I got Sunni. Wallahi,im not lying

Istikhara is done to seek guidance about an action that an individual is going to do, like if someone is going to marry then he asks Allah's advice if the marriage is beneficial for him.. If one seens white or green thing in his dream then the answer is yes , and if one sees red or black things means dont do it.

 

I dont think the istakhara is done to ask what sect is right or which is wrong. Allah has given you aqal , use it.

It's always good to quote Sayyid Khomeini in these instances:

Another example is about a person who wanted to purchase a house. It is clear that the reply to them and thousands of people like these regarding the Istikhara (and the proper use of it), is that in instances such as these, only one who has no intelligence, who is defiant, and who does not have a correct understanding of the Istikhara would perform it in these instances.
