Assalam aleikum brothers and sisters,

Please forgive me if there is another thread about this!

When is the right time to break our fast? I used be Sunni and would break my fast as soon as the Maghrib adhan was played but I've heard its different in Shi'a Islam.

Thank you for your help :)

Amy

wa 'alaykum assalam,

It depends on which marja' you follow, right now the majority will for precaution you should wait, others say that you don't need to.

Q [72]  Can I break my fast with the Sunni brothers according to their Iftar time?

You can break your fast at the disappearance of the sun, whether this time is according to the Sunnis or not. One should confirm this time before the actual fast breaking.

So to give you a conclusion upon which you can break your fast:

It depends on your marja' :

some scholars like Ayatollah Bahjat and Hakim say that is when the sun disappears in the horizen. (the same as suuni's viewpoint.)

But the majority like Ayatollah Khmenei, Sistani say you're required to stay until the redness in the horizon passes overhead; then you can practice Maqrib prayer and break your fast.
