Lack of attention is forgiven, lack of attention after the reminder to the soul, purposely turning away, is not.   Closing one's eyes when reminded, not reflecting purposely simply to avoid God's right over us, is not forgiven.

I sincerely hope that most Atheists are of the former and not the latter condition for their own sake. And I hope most of them don't hate to know God exists, but are simply being honest to themselves.

However God knows people as they are while I don't.

Salam Alaykum

We don't want to judge whether or not a person is qualified to be punished. But we don't find a verse in Quran saying Atheists might be forgiven. Quran always threatens them with the punishment.

Doesn't it show that Atheists won't find relief in the hereafter because in fact there is no "FORMER or LATTER CONDITION" for atheists.

Who can deny strong evidences of God's existence. As brother John Algar mentioned God says

Soon We shall show them Our signs in the horizons and in their own souls until it becomes clear to them that He is the Real. Is it not sufficient that your Lord is witness to all things?

therefore God witnesses they are shown the signs of Allah; so they have to accept; or else they are not justified.
