Salam Alaikum

As you know God is very kindness and merciful, he obliged, recommended, prohibited, discouraged his servants. All of forementioned items (compulsion, recommendation, prohibition…) revolve around advantage and disadvantage.

some Ahadith  shows  that the infallibles discourage people from eating cheese , for example,  Imam Al-sadeq said ‘’  tow things are harmful dried meat and cheese’’ ‘’cheese is harmful’’.

Today in the light of of knowledge it’s proved that cheese contain a substance which lead to imbecility

Lol CM... I have read narrations in which it is said there is no harm if you eat it at night.

Don't you get nightmares if you eat cheese at night?

wa 'alaykum assalam,

Looking through sayed Sistani's site, I can't find him saying that this is makruh, anyone have a fatwa?

Having a quick glance, I think that the two narrations about this in al-Kafi have some issues with their chains of narration (?).

2 - Muhammad bin Yayha, from Ahmad bin Muhammad, from Ibn Mahbub, from 'Abd al-'Aziz al-'Abdi, he said: Abu 'Abd Allah [a] said: Cheese and the walnut, when they are combined, their is healing in each one, and if they are separated, there is disease in each of them.

Muhammad bin Yayha, from Ahmad bin Muhammad, from Idriss bin al-Hasan, from 'Abid bin Zurara, from his father, from Abi 'Abd Allah [a], he said: that cheese and the walnut, when they are combined they are medicine, and when they are separated they are a disease.

No pizza, ever? Not even once in a time? :o

I don't like cheese much, anyway. Never have. Never will.

i am not into pizza, its base is huge chuck of bread. i'd rather have a shawarma over a pizza.

But is it well known among some scientifics that cheese is not good for health ?

This was in the press recently:

Cheese contains a chemical found in addictive drugs, scientists have found.

The team behind the study set out to pin-point why certain foods are more addictive than others.

Using the Yale Food Addiction Scale, designed to measure a person’s dependence on, scientists found that cheese is particularly potent because it contains casein.

The substance, which is present in all dairy products, can trigger the brain’s opioid receptors which are linked to addiction.

Question:

Is it true that if you eat too much cheese or cheese without walnuts, it’s not good for your memory?

Answer:

Yes, eating cheese or walnuts alone is Makrooh (un-recommended).

Imam Sadiq (a.s): “Cheese and walnuts heal if they are consumed together, but cause illness if eaten separately.”

According to other Ahadeeth, it is also Mustahab (recommended) to have them at night time.

Cheese is rich with Calcium, and walnut is rich with phosphorus. Our body needs phosphorus to absorb the calcium.

Don't worry guys! You can be the first to have walnuts on pizza...

Bismillaah ir Rahmaan ir Rahiim  In The Name Of Allaah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.  As salaamu alaykum  The Peace Be Upon You.

I've been eating cheese for years.  I used to buy two pound blocks of Extra Sharpe (maybe N.Y. Extra Sharpe) about once a month. Recently however, after I moved to a new area, I found that the cheese I bought would not keep well. I had the same problem with the four ounce sizes. I have seen some improvement though.  The only problem I've had with cheese, is oily skin, I suspect. But that may be caused by other oil containing foods as well.  Wassalaam.   Faithfully999

So he [a.s] said: 'ailment, no cure in it'. So then, when it was the evening [meal], the man entered upon Abī ‘Abd Allāh [a.s], and saw cheese on al-Khiwān (table spread for meals). So he said: may I be made your ransom, I asked you about cheese during the early mourning [lunch], so you said it is the ailment, that has no cure for it, and in this hour I see it is on your table? Said: he [a.s] said to me: 'it is harmful in the early mourning [lunch], but beneficial in the evening [meal], and it increases fluid in the back (vertebral column).

لسؤال: ما حكم الجبن؟ حيث اني سمعت في التلفاز ان اكل الجبن مكروه ؟ الجواب: يجوز اكله وقيل بكراهته الا مع الجوز.

Question: What is the ruling on cheese? Whereby I heard on television that eating cheese is Makrūh (disliked)? Answer: It is permissible to eat, and it was said, about its Karāhīyatih dislike(ness), except if it was with walnuts.

al-Sistānī's verdict: [link].

The aḥādīth concerning the matter are ḍa‘īf (weak).

السلام عليكم

Can you rate this one too?

The only unfortunate deficiency in the chain of the narrative (see: al-Sadūq's al-Khisāl, pg. 422) is the Taḍ‘īf (weakening) of ‘Ubayd Allāh b. ‘Abd Allāh al-Dahqān al-Wāṣiṭī, weakend by al-Najāshī (see: al-Najāshī, al-Rijāl, pg. 231, person. 614), which is later acknowledged by al-Khū’ī (see: al-Jawāhirī's al Mufīd, pg. 364, person. 7494). Hence, the ḥadīth would be classed ḍa‘īf (weak). However, reconciliation is possible. If you revise the chapter on cheese in al-Kāfī, the Imams [a.s] themselves had no problem with consuming it during specific times (e.i., later evening lunch). Thus it can been assumed walnuts were already served with/on cheese, and ailment is possible outside those conditions implied by these narrations.

Since there are maraji' who say it's makruh to eat cheese without walnuts there are different opinions on the grading of those ahadith.
It would be interesting to know other gradings than al-Majlisis r.

The aḥādīth concerning the matter are ḍa‘īf (weak) per Shīʿah standardsKarāh‘īyah [dislike(ness)] does necessarily require explicit evidence, however some scholars vary in their standards of ḥadīth, some are more lenient than others.

I should have mentioned that there are halal cheese's. That, is all that I buy. Most Supermarkets (in Florida, anyway) carry them, stored in the cooler case's. Walmart also carries them.  Wassalaam.  Faithfully999
