Salam all.

I know we are told to ask help from our Lord. But isn't to much asking a sign of being ungrateful.

So if someone prays and make Dua everytime the same thing. Is that bad in someway?

What if Allah SWT was going to answer someone's dua the very next time of asking, but that person stopped making dua?

lol you're so fortunate and so blessed. some of us don't even bother supplicating. we just offer namaz and bounce.

even if it's a shoe lace you want to purchase. supplicate! Allah loves hearing the voice of His servant supplicating to Him.

please keep all of us in your duas. God bless you.

Salam,

Imam Amir ul-Mu`mineen `Ali (A.S.) said:

"If a praying person knew to what extent he was surrounded by His Mercy, he would never raise his head from (the state of) prostration."

[Tasnif al-Ghurar-ul-Hikam, p. 175]

The Holy Prophet Õáì Çááå Úáíå æÂáå said:

"At the (appointed) time of every prayer (salat), I hear a caller who calls and says:

"O children of Adam! Keep up prayers in order to extinguish the fire you have lit against yourselves (by committing sins)."

[Mustadrak-ul-Wasa`il, vol. 3, p. 102]

Imam al-Baqir (A.S.) said:

"He who repents of his sins is as the one who has not any (burden of) sin."

[Wasa`il-u-Shi`ah vol. 16, p. 74]

Imam Sadiq (A.S.) said:

"When a believing Muslim frequently asks Allah for forgiveness, his record (of deeds) will ascend while it will be glowing."

Salam Alyakum,

Jazakallah Khair for the powerful Hadith .... عَلَيْكُمْ بِالدُّعَاءِ....

Simply looking at those two words from one of the Hadith above is so Strong....it's a commandment: Embark upon Dua (it feels even stronger if you're familiar with Arabic...it's implying that never give up on it; it's your duty to continuously ask from Allah; always be in the state of making Dua)

One more point that I just wanted to add: Even if you do not receive a reply to your dua, do not assume that you've already made Dua for it so you can stop. On the contrary, continuously make Dua for it. It may very well be that Allah loves listening to you making Dua and continuously requesting (This following hadith is so heartwarming :0 )

Allah stalls the reply to the Dua of a Momin (Believer) because He (Allah) is eager to listen to his voice and says, This is the sound that I like to hear, and (whereas) He (Allah) answers very quickly the Dua of the Munafiq (Hypocrite) and says, This is the sound that I am disgusted by.

Imam Sadegh has also reported that Dua has the power to change destiny after its request has become extremely strong, so make much Dua, for Dua is the Key to Mercy, and it is just like a door that can only take so much pounding, before that door is extremely close to getting opened.

The ungrateful one is the person who never makes dua. Allah (swt) tells us all is through him. Every sustenance you receive, whether money, health, food, etc, is all through him. We should always be in dua. One who makes dua every day is doing something great.

^I don't think the OP denied that everything is from Allah swt, rather he is concerned that asking too much for something may be ungratefulness because that may mean that you are not please with what Allah swt is giving you.

To be honest, I've had trouble with this concept as well, I'm actually afraid to ask things for myself, I have no problem asking things for others but when it comes to asking something for myself I'm afraid I don't know why, I don't know when this happened. I thank Allah swt for everything he gives me everyday and I just say to please give me the best, but if I think of asking for something specific I feel bad, I feel like ashamed, I sort of think that how do I dare ask for more when everything I have is khair from Allah.

I used to not being like this :(

This verse is the perfect response to your question, and was also used by the Imams to prove that reciting Du'as is better than reciting the Qur'an.

Say, "What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication?" For you [disbelievers] have denied, so your denial is going to be adherent. (25:77)
