I also wanted add verses like 3:33 and verses about about divinely chosen families in general, are all suppose to be allusions in Quran. If they were not allusions, they are totally useless in guidance and should not be in the book that brings the best verses with respect to guidance.

The fact it didn't constantly repeated Ahlulbayt of Mohammad specifically, was to show a constant way with God that is not new, but is reaching a climax with respect to the seal of the Prophets.

Lastly I would add, I would translated the 2nd part of ayat 33:33 as "God desires to keep only the uncleanness away from you O people of the House and purifies you a thorough purification". This is because I believe Ayat Tatheer is in fact stating the most majestic thing you can say to God's chosen ones the family of Mohammad and that is that that he desires to keep nothing away from their souls except the uncleanness, blessing them with all blessings and uniting in them all blessed states in creation. And the Inama ending at al-rijs, it would then start a sentence as "and (he) purifies you a thorough purification", which would state that they are constantly purified all the time.

We go inside the quran by checking the other verses about Imams / leaders in our nation, then the following is revealed:

1.    When they had been patient and had conviction in Our signs, We appointed amongst them imams to guide [the people] by Our command. (32:24)

2.    and who believe in what has been sent down to you and what was sent down before you, and are certain of the Hereafter. (02:04)

The next verse of Sura Al-baqra also mentions the believers referred in above verse in the following manner:

3.    Those follow their Lord’s guidance and it is they who are the felicitous. (02:05)

4.    You shall not find a people who believe in Allah and the latter day befriending those who act in opposition to Allah and His Messenger, even though they were their (own) fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kinsfolk; these are they into whose hearts He has impressed faith, and whom He has strengthened with an inspiration from Him: and He will cause them to enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein; Allah is well-pleased with them and they are well-pleased with Him these are Allah's party: now surely the party of Allah are the successful ones.! (058:022)

Repeated 12 times in quran (sr. no. 33, post no. 1)

6.    those who maintain the prayer and pay the zakat, and who are certain of the Hereafter. (27:03)

7.    who maintain the prayer, pay the zakat, and are certain of the Hereafter. (31:04)

8.    These are eye-openers for mankind, and guidance and mercy for a people who have certainty. (45:20)

9.    Only Allah is your Vali and His Messenger and those who believe, those who keep up prayers and pay the poor-rate while they bow.. (5:55)

And whoever takes Allah and His messenger and those who believe for a guardian, then surely the party of Allah are they that shall be triumphant.. (5:56)

10.  Ahl albayat of the prophet Muhammad saw are mentioned in  verse of purification:

Allah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O people of the House! and to purify you a (thorough) purifying. (33:33)

11.  Allah swt has asked the ummah to love Ahl Albayat:

That is of which Allah gives the good news to His servants, (to) those who believe and do good deeds. Say: I do not ask of you any reward for it but love for my near relatives; and whoever earns good, We give him more of good therein; surely Allah is Forgiving, Grateful. (42:23)

12.  Indeed this Quran guides to what is most upright, and gives the good news to the faithful who do righteous deeds that there is a great reward for them. (17:009)

Conclusion:

The quran again proves from the other verses that the 12 Imams are the leaders chosen by Allah swt from the progeny of the prophet for guiding the nation whom we should follow.
