al-Salaamu 'Alaykum,

Ramadan Mubarak!
 

Since the holy month of Ramadan is the month of revelation, and the very first word to be revealed was "iqra!" "read!" I decided to do something worthwhile in this holy month and try to share my hundreds of Islamic books by giving short reviews of them, one Islamic book review per night of the holy month of Ramadan. So 30 Nights 30 Books! I have decided to select books at random, covering various Islamic topics, hopefully this project of mine will be of benefit. Please give me comments and suggestions for this is the very first time I'm making such videos.

I think this is a fantastic idea. Ramadhan can be a time where we look within and increase our understanding and comprehension and spirituality, and what better way than to increase our knowledge?

 

I will also join you in this, though i may not be able to do one book a day.

Any idea how long each book is and how you manage to read an entire book a day?

The reason for this project was that I own hundreds of books and felt that it was an injustice to not share them in someway, thus I decided to review some of them. I obviously don't read them in one day  :) , anyone who could do such would have a super-power of sorts.

 

Anyways both nights 8 and 9 deal with books on Wahhabism.

But if I have to read like 300 page long book, I'm not able to do it in one day. Could you share how you do it?

He doesn't read them in one day , he's read them before but is now making these videos with the purpose of reviewing the past books he has read , so he is reviewing one book each night not reading them , I think it's kind of highly unlikely that somebody would actually read these books in one sitting cos they take some time to take the information in. If I could read 300 page books in one sitting I'd be a super-human, which I wish I were. But there is a thing called speed-reading, I urge you to look into it. They teach courses on it at most universities as well as online.

Yes I have learned Arabic but I am no expert, my speaking ability is not mentionable at all but my reading comprehension is quite good. I studied Arabic for 2-3 years as an under-grad and it is a requirement for my post-grad studies, I won't be able to complete my degree in Islamic Studies with be proficient in Arabic.

 

However prior to formally studying Arabic I used the free pdf's of Madina Books to learn basic Arabic vocabulary, grammar, etc. When I visited Najaf al-Ashraf I audited a class for western beginners and they too were using the Madina Books.

 

However no matter how much Arabic you study, if living in the west, you will never be able to master it. You'll need to move to an Arab speaking country and study there, which I inshaAllah plan on doing.
