Praying Allah And Calling Others

Recommended Posts

This article is based on the verses of Quran relevant to the following areas:

1- Serving and Praying to Allah

2- Serving to other (gods / Illah) other than Allah

3- Calling Others  (Illah / gods)

4- Calling Auliya other than Allah

5- Calling Auliya / Wali  from Allah

The detail can be seen in the sections given below:

A-  Praying and Serving Alone to Allah (for any Harm or Profit):

[shakir 5:76] Say: Do you serve besides Allah that which does not control for you any harm, or any profit? And Allah-- He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

[shakir 10:18] And they serve beside Allah what can neither harm them nor profit them, and they say: These are our intercessors with Allah. Say: Do you (presume to) inform Allah of what He knows not in the heavens and the earth? Glory be to Him, and supremely exalted is He above what they set up (with Him).

[shakir 16:73] And they serve besides Allah that which does not control for them any sustenance at all from the heavens and the earth, nor have they any power.

[shakir 21:66] He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you?

[shakir 25:55] And they serve besides Allah that which neither profits them nor causes them harm; and the unbeliever is a partisan against his Lord.

[shakir 29:17] You only worship idols besides Allah and you create a lie surely they whom you serve besides Allah do not control for you any sustenance, therefore seek the sustenance from Allah and serve Him and be grateful to Him; to Him you shall be brought back.

[shakir 29:25] And he said: You have only taken for yourselves idols besides Allah  by way of friendship between you in this world's life, then on the resurrection day some of you shall deny others, and some of you shall curse others, and your abode is the fire, and you shall not have any helpers.

The Clarification of these verses can be made by the following verses of Quran:

[shakir 25:3] And they have taken besides Him gods (for worship), who do not create anything while they are themselves created, and they control not for themselves any harm or profit, and they control not death nor life, nor raising (the dead) to life.

[shakir 18:15] These our people have taken gods besides Him (for worship); why do they not produce any clear authority in their support? Who is then more unjust than he who forges a lie against Allah?

[shakir 25:3] And they have taken besides Him gods, who do not create anything while they are themselves created, and they control not for themselves any harm or profit, and they control not death nor life, nor raising (the dead) to life.

[shakir 18:15] These our people have taken gods besides Him; why do they not produce any clear authority in their support? Who is then more unjust than he who forges a lie against Allah?

[shakir 43:45] And ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before you: Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Beneficent Allah?

[shakir 21:29] And whoever of them should say: Surely I am a god besides Him, such a one do We recompense with hell; thus do, We recompense the unjust.

[shakir 21:22] If there had been in them any gods except Allah, they would both have certainly been in a state of disorder; therefore glory be to Allah, the Lord of the dominion, above what they attribute (to Him).

No Muslim Prays and Serves to any God (Illah for worship) beside Allah swt since Muslims Pray 5 times a day prostrating to Allah swt, and these verses are considered addressing Mushrikeen (who worship idols) and Kufar.

[shakir 60:4] Indeed, there is for you a good example in Ibrahim and those with him when they said to their people: Surely we are clear of you and of what you serve besides Allah; we declare ourselves to be clear of you, and enmity and hatred have appeared between us and you forever until you believe in Allah alone-- but not in what Ibrahim said to his father: I would certainly ask forgiveness for you, and I do not control for you aught from Allah-- Our Lord! on Thee do we rely, and to Thee do we turn, and to Thee is the eventual coming:

Walaikum-salam,

JazakAllah Khayr!

To anyone who wants to misinterpret those verses and say they only exclusively refer to worship, and not pleading for help, then I give you the following hadith as daleel against your view:

H 3047, CH 1, h 1
Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz
from Zurara from abu Ja’far, recipient of divine supreme covenant, who has said
the following:

“Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, has said, ‘Those
who consider themselves above the need to worship Me will
soon go to hell in disgrace.’ (40:60)

“The Imam said, ‘This is a reference to prayer. The best form
of worship is prayer (pleading before Allah for help).’ I (the
narrator) then asked, ‘What is meant by: Ibrahim is la awwahu,
prayerful and forbearing?’ The Imam said, ‘It means pleading
for help before Allah.’”

B- Calling Others (Gods (Illaha) and Auliya):

B-1 Calling God (Illah) beside Allah

[shakir 10:106] And do not call besides Allah on that which can neither benefit you nor harm you, for if you do then surely you will in that case be of the unjust.

[shakir 17:56] Say: Call on those whom you assert besides Him, so they shall not control the removal of distress from you nor (its) transference.

[shakir 22:12] He calls besides Allah upon that which does not harm him and that which does not profit him, that is the great straying.

[shakir 22:73] O people! a parable is set forth, therefore listen to it: surely those whom you call upon besides Allah cannot create fly, though they should all gather for it, and should the fly snatch away anything from them, they could not take it back from  weak are the invoker and the invoked.

[shakir 6:71] Say: Shall we call on that besides Allah, which does not benefit us nor harm us, and shall we be returned back on our heels after Allah has guided us, like him whom the Shaitans have made to fall down perplexed in the earth? He has companions who call him to the right way, (saying): Come to us. Say: Surely the guidance of Allah, that is the (true) guidance, and we are commanded that we should submit to the Lord of the worlds.

[shakir 35:13] He causes the night to enter in upon the day, and He causes the day to enter in upon the night, and He has made subservient (to you) the sun and the moon; each one follows its course to an appointed time; this is Allah, your Lord, His is the kingdom; and those whom you call upon besides Him do not control a straw.

[shakir 35:40] Say: Have you considered your associates which you call upon besides Allah? Show me what part of the earth they have created, or have they any share in the heavens; or, have We given them a book so that they follow a clear argument thereof? Nay, the unjust do not hold out promises one to another but only to deceive.

[shakir 10:66] Now, surely, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is Allah's; and they do not (really) follow any associates, who call on others besides Allah; they do not follow (anything) but conjectures, and they only lie.

[shakir 46:4] Say: Have you considered what you call upon besides Allah? Show me what they have created of the earth, or have they a share in the heavens? Bring me a book before this or traces of knowledge, if you are truthful.

The clarification of above verses can be made from the verses of Quran itself by the following verses:

[shakir 40:66] Say: I am forbidden to serve (worship) those whom you call upon besides Allah when clear arguments have come to me from my Lord, and I am commanded that I should submit to the Lord of the worlds.

[shakir 18:14] And We strengthened their hearts with patience, when they stood up and said: Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth; we will by no means call upon any God besides Him, for then indeed we should have said an extravagant thing.

)028:088 And do not call another god besides Allah; there is no god except Him. Everything is to perish except His Face. All judgement belongs to Him, and to Him you will be brought back

023:117 Whoever calls besides Allah another god of which he has no proof, his reckoning will indeed rest with his Lord. Indeed the faithless will not be felicitous.

072:018 The places of worship belong to Allah, so do not call anyone (God) along with Allah

006:108Do not abuse those whom they call besides Allah, lest they should abuse Allah out of hostility, without any knowledge. That is how to every people We have made their conduct seem decorous. Then their return will be to their Lord and He will inform them concerning what they used to do

.

The above verses clearly show that No GOD (As Illaha for Worship) can be Called beside Allah swt, Muslims do not Call any GOD (Illah) beside Allah. They pray 5 times a day to Allah and called him so these verses clearly prohibit the calling of God (Illah) to whom the Musrikeen and Kufar called upon.

Kitab Al Kafi, Volume 2, Book of Duas - Supplication for Pain, Worries, Sadness and Fear

Holy Quran: "And whatever you have of favor - it is from Allah. Then when adversity touches you, to Him you cry for help."

Quran: "And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided."

Imam Ali a.s

Do not seek help or protection from anybody but Allah. Reserve your prayers, your requests, your solicitations, your supplications, and your entreaties to Him and Him alone because to grant, to give, to confer and to bestow, as well as to withhold, to deprive, to refuse, and to debar, lies only in His Power. Ask as much of His Blessings and seek as much of His Guidance as you can.

Letter 31 - nahjul balagha

H 3368, CH 55, h 7
A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from
‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama'a from abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme
covenant, who has said the following:

“When you are afraid of something say, ‘O Lord, no one is an alternative for You and You are the alternative for everyone of Your creatures, suffice me in such and such matters.’”

“In another Hadith the Imam, recipient of divine supreme covenant, has instructed to say this, ‘O the One who suffices in everything and nothing is sufficient for Him in the heavens and earth, suffice me in what is important to me of worldly and the hereafter and bestow al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad and his family.’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, has also said, ‘If anyone feels apprehensive in the presence of a ruler, he should say, “By the help of Allah, I seek conquest, by the power of Allah I will achieve success and through Muhammad, recipient of divine supreme covenant, I turn to (Allah). O Lord, ease up his difficult attitude for me, and soften for me his hardheartedness; You delete what You will, and establish. With You there is the original book.” Also say, ‘Allah is sufficient for me, no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah and I place my trust in Allah. He is the Lord of the Great Throne, through the means of Allah and His power I seek (from Allah) to prevent their means and power (from harming me), I seek prevention by the Lord, who opens up the dawn, against the evil of what He has created, there are no means and no power without Allah.’

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from
Muhammad ibn Isma’Il ibn Bazi' from abu Isma’Il al-Sarraj from ibn Muskan
from abu Hamza who has said the following:

“O abu Hamza, if you will face something that frightens you, go to a corner of your home, face the Qiblah and perform two Rak’at (a prayer consisting of two times bowing on one’s knees) prayer then say, ‘O the most sharp-sighted of the on-lookers, O the most kind of hearing of the hearers, O the quickest to judge and O the most Beneficent of the benefactors,’ seventy times, each time ask for your wish.’”

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim from abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, who has said the following:
“If one suffers from a misfortune, a hardship, or something causes him pain he should uncover his knees, and elbows and touch the ground with his chest then plead before Allah for help, in a prostrating position.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from
Muhammad ibn Isma’Il from abu Isma’Il al-Sarraj from Mu'awiyah ibn ‘Ammar
from abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, who has said the
following:

The supplication of abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, against Dawud ibn Ali when he murdered Mu'alla ibn Khunays and seized the property of abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, was this supplication: ‘O Lord, I plead before You through Your light that does not extinguish, through Your determination that is not hidden, through Your majesty that never ends, through Your bounties that are beyond enumeration and through Your authority with which You prevented the Pharaoh from harming Moses.’”

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from certain individuals of his people from ibn abu Hamza who has said the following:
“I heard Ali ibn al-Husayn saying to his son, ‘My son, if anyone of you faces a misfortune, or an incident, he should complete a Wudu and perform two or four Rak’at (a prayer consisting of four times bowing down on one’s knees) prayer and then say at the end, “O the One who is the right one to complain to, O the One who hears all the whispers, observes every group, knows all secrets, and O the One who removes misfortunes as He wills, O friend of Ibrahim, O the party of special conversation with Moses, O the One who has chosen Muhammad, recipient of divine supreme covenant, I plead before You like one whose poverty has become intense, his patience has run thin, his power has weakened, like the pleading of a drowning person who is alien and helpless and cannot find anyone to save him from his suffering except You, O the Beneficent, the Merciful.’ Whoever pleads before Allah with this supplication Allah will remove his hardship, if Allah so wills.’”

H 3379, CH 55, h 18
A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Asbat
from Ibrahim ibn Israel from al-Rida, recipient of divine supreme covenant, who
has said the following:
“Once in the neck of one of our female servant, a scrofula appeared, and someone came to me and said, O Ali, tell her to say, ‘O Compassionate, O Merciful, O Lord, O my Master,’ repeatedly. The Imam said, ‘She did as she was instructed and Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, removed the disease.’ He (Imam) said that this is the supplication with which Ja’far ibn Sulayman had prayed, (his troubles were removed).’”

H 3381, CH 55, h 20
Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ‘Umar ibn Yazid who has said the following:
“O the Living, O the Guardian, O the One besides Whom no one deserves to be worshipped, I cry to You for help through Your mercy, suffice me whatever concerns me and do not leave me to myself.” One should say it one hundred times in prostrating position.

Saheeh

And there also seems to be a dua for tawassul

H 3382, CH 55, h 21
A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from certain
individuals of his people from Ibrahim ibn Hanan from Ali ibn Surah from Sama'a who has said the following:
“O Sama'a, whenever you have a request before Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, say this: ‘O Lord, I plead before You through, Muhammad and Ali, recipients of divine supreme
covenant, due to their special position and respect before You, for that position and respect, bestow al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad and his family, and make my such and such wish
come true.’ On the Day of Judgment, all of the angels of special position before Allah, the messenger prophets, and the believing people who had gone through the test of their faith will stand
needy before these two people, Muhammad and Ali, recipients of divine supreme covenant, on that Day.’”

Saheeh

H 3397, CH 56, h 13
It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn abu Nasr from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from al-Thumali from abu Ja’far, recipient of divine supreme covenant, who has said the following:
“Whenever one has complains of pain, he should say, ‘In the name of Allah, with (the help of) Allah, and through Muhammad the Messenger of Allah, I seek protection with the majesty of Allah and I seek protection with the power of Allah over everything that He wills, against what I feel.’”

B-2 Calling Auliya :

B 2-1 Auliyaa not Chosen by Allah:-

[shakir 13:16] Say: Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?-- Say: Allah. Say: Do you take then besides Him Guardians (Auliyaa) who do not control any profit or harm for themselves? Say: Are the blind and the seeing alike? Or can the darkness and the light be equal? Or have they set up with Allah associates who have created creation like His, so that what is created became confused to them? Say: Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Supreme.

017:097 Whomever Allah guides is rightly guided, and whomever He leads astrayyou will never for find them any guardians besides Him. On the Day of Resurrection, We shall muster them [scrambling] on their faces, blind, dumb, and deaf. Their refuge shall be hell. Whenever it subsides, We shall intensify the blaze for them .)17:97

[shakir 39:3] Now, surely, sincere obedience is due to Allah (alone) and (as for) those who take guardians besides Him, (saying), We do not serve them save that they may make us nearer to Allah, surely Allah will judge between them in that in which they differ; surely Allah does not guide him aright who is a liar, ungrateful.

[shakir 42:6] And (as for) those who take guardians besides Him, Allah watches over them, and you have not charge over them.

[shakir 46:32] And whoever does not accept the-Divine caller, he shall not escape in the earth and he shall not have guardians besides Him, these are in manifest error.

The case of those who took others than Allah as their Protectors (Auliya) is that of a spider who builds a house; but the frailest of all houses is the spider's house; if they only knew. (29:41)

[shakir 29:42] Surely Allah knows whatever thing they Call upon besides Him; and He is the Mighty, the Wise.

[shakir 31:30] This is because Allah is the Truth, and that which they call upon besides Him is the falsehood, and that Allah is the High, the Great.

- We need to interpret who are the Auliyaa beside Allah, as addressed in above verses?

Lest us consider the following verses:

Believers! Do not take the Jews and the Christians for your allies (Auliya). They are the allies of each other. And among you he who takes them for allies, shall be regarded as one of them. Allah does not guide the wrong-doers. (Quran 5:51)

Children of Adam! Let not Satan deceive you in the manner he deceived your parents out of Paradise, pulling off from them their clothing to reveal to them their shame. He and his host surely see you from whence you do not see them. We have made Satans the Guardians (Auliyaa) of those who do not believe.  (Quran 7:27)

004:119 and I will lead them astray and give them [false] hopes, and prompt them to slit the ears of cattle, and I will prompt them to alter Allah’s creation.’ Whoever takes Satan as a Guardian (Walia singular form of Auliyaa)) instead of Allah has certainly incurred a manifest loss )4:119(.

And recall when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves before Adam"; all of them fell prostrate, except Iblis. He was of the jinn and so disobeyed the command of his Lord. Will you, then, take him and his progeny as your Guardians rather than Me although they are your open enemies? What an evil substitute are these wrong-doers taking  ) 18-50( !

In the above verses Allah swt has mentioned that it is Warning to those who take Kufars (unbelievers) and  Shaitan & his Progeny as Auliya (who are not Chosen by Allah swt) have made Spider house which is weakest of all houses and Allah swt knows them.

So those who have taken Kufars and Sheyateen as their Auliya, they have been addressed in verses given above. These Auliya do not control any profit or harm for themselves and Allah swt knows whom called upon beside Allah. They are considered as Partners to Allah.

B2-2 Auliya Chosen by Allah swt.-

4-144

Believers! Do not take the unbelievers as your allies (Auliya) in preference to the believers. Do you wish to offer Allah a clear proof of guilt against yourselves? (Quran 4:144)

Do you think that you will be left (without a trial)? Note it well that Allah has not as yet seen which of you exerted your utmost in His (Allah his way and did not take Wali  any other than Allah, His Messenger and the Believers. Allah has full knowledge of what you do.

Now who are the Auliya Chosen by Allah swt for believers? The answer comes from the following verses:

Only Allah, His Messenger, and those who believe and who establish Prayer, pay Zakah, and bow (before Allah) are your allies (Wali). All those who take Allah and His Messenger and those who believe as their Allies (Wali), should remember that the party of Allah will be triumphant. (5:55, 56)

Allah is your Wali , The prophet Muhammad saww is your Wali, And Ali as (and 11 Imams) are your Wali , thus their followers will be successful (on the day of judgment).

Further verse no 13:16 states that, Say: Are the blind and the seeing alike? Or can the darkness and the light be equal? Certainly these are not equal so the Auliya addressed in this verse (Auliya of Shaitan)  are not equal to the Auliya Chosen by Allah swt as per verses 5:55, 56, they have been given Authority with the Permission of Allah to bring profit to the believers. (4;59, 5:55, 56, 5:32)

The Auliya Other than Allah swt, The Prophet saww and Masomeenas  are considered as Auliya of Shaitan (who are not chosen by Allah swt).

.

[shakir 42:9] Or have they taken Guardians (Auliya) besides Him? But Allah is the Guardian, and He gives life to the dead, and He has power over all things

The above verse addresses only the Auliyas who are not chosen by Allah swt and people have made them as their Guardian.

Is Calling of Auliya Chosen by Allah (Imams / Masomeen) permitted? The following verses describe it clearly:

[shakir 3:61] But whoever disputes with you in this matter after what has come to you of knowledge, then say: Come Let us Call our sons and your sons and our women and your women and our near people and your near people, then let us be earnest in prayer, and pray for the curse of Allah on the liars.

This is the evidence that the Prophet Called Ahl Albayat as and took them to Mubahila as per the order of the Allah swt to show to the people that when it is needed Ahl Albayt as can be called when needed.

[shakir 3:31] Say: If you love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your faults, and Allah is Forgiving, MercifuL

This is established Sunnah of the Prophet saww. The proof of it has been mentioned in Quran for applicability.

Another evidence comes from the following verse:

[shakir 17:71] (Remember) the day when We will Call every people with their Imam; then whoever is given his book in his right hand, these shall read their book; and they shall not be dealt with a whit unjustly.

IF in someones view calling Imam / Masomeen is not permitted then Allah swt should have not mentioned that He Will Call People with the Imam?

Does Allah swt permit Shirk to be conducted at any stage in the life or thereafter by calling people with his Imam?

This Verse Clearly Permits Calling of Imams who are Auliya Chosen by Allah swt.

[shakir 33:62] (Such has been) the course of Allah with respect to those who have gone before; and you shall not find any change in the course of Allah.

This may be objected that Allah swt will permit in life thereafter, and it is not permitted now. But the Quran is the book of guidance and it guide the Muslims forever with its stated verses, thus this objection is rejected by the above quoted verse.

Indeed it is We who revive the dead and write what they have sent ahead and their effects [which they left behind], and We have figured Everything in a Manifest Imam (36:12)

Imam of our time is present in this universe so Calling him is Calling of Auliya Chosen by Allah as permitted by Quran.

Thus this discussion reveals that Calling to the Imams / Masomeen in case of need to get Allah swt favor is entirely permitted in line with the verses of Quran. As they have been given Authority by Allah swt and they are the only Rope leading to Allah.

[shakir 42:8] And if Allah had pleased He would surely have made them a single community, but He makes whom He pleases enter into His mercy, and the unjust it is that shall have no guardian or helper

[shakir 42:10] And in whatever thing you disagree, the judgment thereof is (in) Allah's (hand); that is Allah, my Lord, on Him do I rely and to Him do I turn time after time.

And Allah swt knows the Best.

Dear brother, I do not think this verse at all can be classed as allowing one to call others than Allah swt in dua to grant their needs. It is taken wholly out of context

I have mentioned all the verses systematically in order as i have taken from Quran classified in the categories given above. This verse lies under  the Calling of Auliya from Allah swt.

I am not here to add any thing further for my point of view,  as i have discussed in the article every category in detail. It is not permitted to take & Call Auliywa who are not from Allah and the rest indicates that it is permitted to take & Call Auliywa who are chosen by  Allah swt.

If you want to add any thing your response will be appreciated.

And Allah swt knows the best.

Regards.

Summary of Article:

1-No Muslim Prays and Serves to any God (Illah for worship) beside Allah swt since Muslims Pray 5 times a day prostrating to Allah swt, and these verses (Section A) are considered addressing Mushrikeen (who worship idols) and Kufar.

2-The above verses (Section B-1) clearly show that No GOD (As Illaha for Worship) can be Called beside Allah swt, Muslims do not Call any GOD (Illah) beside Allah. They pray 5 times a day to Allah and called him so these verses clearly prohibit the calling of God (Illah) to whom the Musrikeen and Kufar called upon.

3-In the above verses (Section B 2-1), Allah swt has mentioned that it is Warning to those who take Kufars (unbelievers) and Shaitan & his Progeny as Auliya (who are not Chosen by Allah swt) have made Spider house which is weakest of all houses and Allah swt knows them.

So those who have taken Kufars and Sheyateen as their Auliya, they have been addressed in verses given above. These Auliya do not control any profit or harm for themselves and Allah swt knows whom called upon beside Allah. They are considered as Partners to Allah.

4-The Auliya Other than Allah swt, The Prophet saww and Masomeen as  are considered as Auliya of Shaitan (who are not chosen by Allah swt).

5- This is the evidence (section B 2-2) that the Prophet Called Ahl Albayat as and took them to Mubahila as per the order of the Allah swt to show to the people that when it is needed Ahl Albayt as can be called.

6- Thus this discussion reveals that Calling to the Imams / Masomeen in case of need to get Allah swt favor is entirely permitted in line with the verses of Quran. As they have been given Authority by Allah swt and they are the only Rope leading to Allah.

I wholly disagree with point 6. With all due respect, the arguments do not follow.

Putting that side, what does that mean for all the shias who call on Hazrat Abbas or Lady Zaynab to grant them children, risq etc?

Brother any one has right to agree or disagree, I have already mentioned the verses in order that we should not  misunderstand these in order for the One-ness of Allah swt , for Illah other than Allah, Auliywa other than Allah, and the Auliywa chosen by Allah swt as described in the Quran.

if want to add further you are welcome.

Putting that side, what does that mean for all the shias who call on Hazrat Abbas or Lady Zaynab to grant them children, risq etc?

Well, if anyone wants something from someone else excluding God, he is sunk in kufr and shirk. But 99% of Sunnies and Shias are not so. Quran says, Muhammad PBUH and Imams AS can see and hear. So when they go to the shrines, as a matter of fact they are going to see those great souls.

Moreover, the imam of time is the caliph of God on earth, he is the eye of Allah, hand of Allah, ..... on earth. He is representative of Allah on earth.

When they get the results, what would you think ?

Actually calling Ahlolbayt for help is not calling other than Allah , As we can see in the several Ayat and Duas like the following :

Quran Says, "Come to Prophet Muhammad (saww) for forgiveness for Sins"

"We sent not a messenger, but to be obeyed, in accordance with the will of Allah. If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come unto You and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful." [Quran 4:64]

The above verse clearly shows that Allah (swt), expects the believers to come to the Prophet (saww) for asking for forgiveness for their sins. This verse clearly permits us to Ask for help from the Prophet (saww).

And this is not limited to the life of the Prophet (saww). This verse is applicable even after the passing of Prophet Muhammad (saww) as proven from the following narration:

And Narrated Al-Sam'aani from Amir Al-Momineen Ali bin Abi Talib (as):

"That a Bedouin came three days after the burial of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his family) and threw himself on the Holy grave and put the soil on his head and said, "O Messenger of Allah (saww), You said and we heard what you said. And you made us aware about Allah and We became aware about You. And it was revealed on you "If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come unto You...". I have wronged myself and have come to You, so pray for forgiveness for me to my Lord." Then came a call from the grave, verily He has forgiven you."

From Ziyarat-e-Jamiya

Ziyarat-e-Jamiya is an authentic Ziyarat truested and relied up by scholars from the past and present. This Ziyarat is also considered authentic by Sheikh Sadooq.

This Ziyarah can be recited for all the Imam's (as) and hence its called 'Jamiya'.

"I take shelter in your neighborhood. I make a visit to do homage and praise you. For me your resting abodes are sanctuaries. In the court of the Almighty you are my advocates. I seek His nearness through you. And submit to you(keep before you) the fulfillment of my wants and desire."

"Ya Wali Allah! Indeed there are sins between God - the mighty and tremendous - and me, that cannot be removed except by your pleasure; so by the one who has trusted you with His secret, and has made you shepherds in the affairs of His creation; and has conformed obeying you with obeying Him; seek the pardon of my sins; and you are my interceders."

For the Imam's (as) that have passed away, we have the following words in the Ziyarat which prove that the status/position/authority/Wilayat of the Imam's (as) remains the same even after their death.

"I testify that was was said earlier is for you in the past and will continue to be for your in the future."

[source: Ziyarat-e-Jamiya, Uyoon Al-Akbar Al-Reza - Sheikh Sadooq]

For the details on the scholars who considered this Ziyarat as authentic and reliable read here (in arabic): http://www.alkafi.net/vb/showthread.php?t=460

Other than this, we have (at least) a couple of more Ziyarat with similar meaning hence making this Mutawaatir (frequently narrated). Those Ziyarat's are also quoted below.

Brother, I think you forgot the verses where the Qur'an mentions asking the Prophet (pbuh) to pray for us, as well as the verse with the sons of Jacob (as) asking their father to pray for them and the verse where the disciples of Jesus (as) ask him to beseech Allah so that a table of food is brought to them so their hearts may rest assured of his divine mission. Otherwise a good index of verses.

There are several verses , Just two of them here :

His sons said: 'father, ask forgiveness for our sins. we have indeed been sinners

He said: 'i shall ask my lord to forgive you. he is forgiving, the most merciful

Sura Yusuf – Ayat 97-98

And when the plague smote them, they said: 'moses, pray to your lord for us invoking the promise he has made with you. if you lift the plague from us, we will believe in you and let the children of israel go with you

Sura Araf – Ayah 134

I essentially see the flaw, that if worship was the sole thing condemned, it would not condemn their prayers and seek intercession from intercessors with Allah. The fact he condemned that as well as them taking gods and worshiping aside from God, shows that to call out to those absent as constant helpers and means of receiving God's intervention (these our intercessors with Allah) is condemned as well.

The Quran is not making an argument solely based on the fact their gods weren't real or they are not true intercessors because they are imaginary beings, it made an argument that in reality, these would be God's elite and chosen ones, and they would not avail you the least and would only intercede by his permission. Sons of God would not be sons of God but rather honored servants who act by his command.

The emphasis and style of it emphasizing more on the fact they prayed (ie. called out to the unseen/absent for help, sustenance or intercession) to other then God, shows that it had an eternal wisdom, that would apply to those who go to extreme with regards to Ahlulbayt.

Just as the Quran emphasizes to exalted and love and venerate Ahlulbayt, it teaches not to take them as Lords, and that they cannot guide you if God wants to misguide you and they can't guide who they like and that who God doesn't guide has no Guide (ie. Imam leading and guiding him to Allah).

The emphasis that Allah is near the servants and so will respond is in context of people who called intercessors with Allah but also called Allah, while Allah is showing that he is near and responds to those who call him.

These are those whom others take as their God for worship (Illah) by prostrating them and considering them God (Allah) instead of Allah swt. Ahl albayat and imams are not taken in such as they are Auliya from Allah swt and they are not Auliya beside Allah. The Auliya beside Allah are Shaitan and others Gods whom unbelievers take beside Allah. This is the difference which has not been recognized yet.

The  Auliya  chosen by Allah (Imams and Ahl albayt) swt  will intercede by Allah's permission. No matter for disagreement on it. If it is referred that they are being like us, it is disagreed it because Ahl albayat and Imams are not like us they are kept pure by Allah swt,  Chosen above all by Allah swt and Allah swt himself sends blessings on them.

But it is quite clear from the example of  Mubahila that the prophet called and took his Ahl albayat in response to the Christians. This means obviously to call the Ahl albayat to get Allah's favor. It is prophet sunna and it  should be followed likewise whether the prophet is alive, present here or not (may be assumed  in ghayab to us). Thus no body exaggerate the status of Ahl albayat and imams. As far as calling of imams is concerned Allah swt has mentioned  that the nation will be called with imam and mostly this verse refers to the imam Ali or imam of time, if it were not permitted this verse should have not been there. Also Quran does mention that the way of Allah (sunnat ullah)  remains the same no change in it.

No body takes ahl albayt and Imams as lords,  every Muslim believer considers them as described in quran and hadith.  The Christians are addressed as they took their monks as lords becasue they considered  Hz Esa as God beside Allah for worship,  or Hz Esa to be Allah or Son of Allah,. that's why the Christians are condemned.

No disagreement on praying and calling to Allah swt as described already in article section A, post no. 1

this entire thread contains three or four arguments only, regardless of the amount of verses copied:

mostly recycled, but here we go:

1 -  Quran says shirq is only when specifically calling upon : "gods" other than God

false

And they worship other than Allah that which neither harms them nor benefits them, and they say, "These are our intercessors (bringers of shifa'a) with Allah " Say, "Do you inform Allah of something He does not know in the heavens or on the earth?" Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him 10:18

this above verse proves that seeking shifaa through creatures we know are not God, can be worship of them

next ..

2 - verse 3:61 "Come Let us Call our sons and your sons  ... "

did the Prophet call upon people who were physcially present, or people who were martyred? was the "call upon" meant here as the dua we do in mosques and on our prayer rugs? no! so that solves it.

this verse is clearly in reference to family that was physically around, and as we know the event lead to that. People who were physically present were physcially called upon. nothing to do with spiritual dua.

same with Sura Yusuf – Ayat 97-98 and Sura Araf – Ayah 134 .. clearly talking about physically present individuals and not supplication

3 - "We sent not a messenger, but to be obeyed, in accordance with the will of Allah. If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come unto You and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful." [Quran 4:64]

again this old argument about an event that happened to the prophet before this verse was brought down, in clear context to the physically present prophet.

of course there will be hadiths ( 0.001% ) that support calling upon others than God in spiritual dua .. but those can be dismissed quite easily.

again, the best thing to do is understand what is the difference between talking to people and supplication.

talking to people uses our limited physical senses, while spiritual supplication (that's what Allah obviously means by the word dua when He says not to make dua to others) .. is an unlimited experience between a creature and the creator, which is guaranteed to be heard by Him.

infinite difference.

finally, i would like people to interpret these verses, which say pretty much the same thing:

1-  what is meant by : "dua" here?

Say, "Have you considered: if there came toyou the punishment of Allah or there came to you the Hour - is it other than Allah you would invoke (make duas to), if you should be truthful?" 6:40

And that the mosques belong to Allah; so do not invoke (make duas to), along with Allah, anyone. 72:18

Indeed, those you call upon (make duas to ) besides Allah are servants like you. So call upon them and let them respond to you, if you should be truthful. 7:194

"That is because, when Allah was called upon (made duas to) alone, you disbelieved; but if others were associated (shirq) with Him, you believed. So the judgement is with Allah , the Most High, the Grand." 40:12

That is because Allah is the Truth, and that what they call upon (make duas to) other than Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the High, the Grand. 31:30

Some seriously flawed logic in here. I particularly love the argument that essentially goes:

Muslims don't worship anyone other than Allah.

We are Muslims.

Therefore we don't worship other than Allah, and so these verses can't be talking about us!

Lol.

Dear brother,

In distress, some shia's shout 'Ya Ali Madad'

when the Quran says:

Quran "And whatever you have of favor - it is from Allah. Then when adversity touches you, to Him you cry for help."

When our Imams a.s instruct us to say:

Kitab Al Kafi - Book of Dua

With You there is the original book.”

Also say, ‘Allah is sufficient for me, no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah and I place my trust in Allah. He is the Lord of the Great Throne, through the means of Allah and His power I seek (from Allah) to prevent their means and power (from harming me), I seek prevention by the Lord, who opens up the dawn, against the evil of what He has created, there are no means and no power without Allah.’

Muwathaq

I don't think logic is an issue here. When people truly want to do something, they will bend the rules of logic and reason to justify anything.

Remember, do not forget the clause 'it is not independent of Allah swt' i.e Ali a.s is not Allah swt, and it's all okay.

It truly baffles me. Is it simply brainwashing, apathy, or lack of education?

You know, i'm very liberal with all of this. I don't think it's shirk to ask Imam Ali a.s to pray to Allah swt for you, whether or not he can hear or not. If he can't, then it's pretty harmless and your prayer goes into air.

It's the people who think they can bypass Allah swt who anger me, those that ask an Imam directly to not ask or pray to Allah swt for them, but to literally grant them a child, risq, protection.

And you know, i think when ulema are given the choice between the two, they may reconsider before saying its permissible to ask from an imam directly - maybe a good number mean ask him to intercede and pray, rather than ask him to grant or protect.

furthermore consider these:

Say, "Have you considered: if there came toyou the punishment of Allah or there came to you the Hour - is it other than Allah you would invoke (make duas to), if you should be truthful?" 6:40

No, it is Him you would invoke (make duas to)and He would remove that for which you invoked Him if He willedand you would forget what you associate. 6:41

Say: "Who rescues you from the darkness of the land and the sea, when you call upon (make duas to) Him in humility and in secret (saying): If He (Allah) only saves us from this (danger), we shall truly be grateful." 6:63

If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allah let the believers rely (wakal ala Allah). 3:160

Already replied in section  A,  post no 1.

Ahl albayat as were definitely called and taken to Mubahila. This sunna it cannot be denied.

The prophet and Imams from Ahl albayat are the witness over the people watching them.

So how [will it be] when We bring from every nation a witness and we bring you, [O Muhammad] against these [people] as a witness? (4:41)

And say, "Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so, will] His Messenger and the believers. (9:105).

Thus the argument of physical presence of ahl albayat becomes null and void for the applicability of calling them . However the extent of calling is defined by post no. 12

1-  what is meant by : "dua" here?

First no one denies praying and calling to Allah swt. There is no disagreement on it.

Indeed, those you call upon (make duas to ) besides Allah are servants like you. So call upon them and let them respond to you, if you should be truthful. 7:194

This verse refers to those beings  whom polytheist called beside Allah swt.

Indeed, Allah chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of 'Imran over the worlds - 93:33)

Say, [O Muhammad], "Praise be to Allah , and peace upon His servants whom He has chosen. (27:59)

If it is taken that Ahl albayat as are being like us, it is disagreed it because Ahl albayat and Imams are not like us they are kept pure by Allah swt,  Chosen above all by Allah swt and Allah swt himself sends blessings on them. Thus it does not refer  to Chosen servants of Allah swt.

It's not really people's fault. There is Satanic whispering with regards to much of the Quran that we can't recite verses in their proper places and meaning.  It takes a hard reflection and the light of reason to overcome the knots and locks inspired by the dark forces.

2 - verse 3:61 "Come Let us Call our sons and your sons  ... "

It amazes me how one can ignore clear verses not to do this act, yet twist the most vaguest of verses in support.

Brother Tawheed , The way you use Quran verses , ahadith and fatawa is  :

And the way you interpret Quran looks like the way Khawarij in the era of Imam Ali's Khilaphat used to. They criticized Imam Ali that why he was doing Hokoomat (running the government ). They used the verse below to reject Imam Ali's point like the way you and Wahabis are using and interpreting Quran verses to prove your points :

Say: Surely I have manifest proof from my Lord and you call it a lie; I have not with me that which you would hasten; the  judgment is only Allah's; He relates the truth and He is the best of deciders (An'am – 57 )

You must be very courageous person. Because your posts are implying that most of the Shias and its adil ulema are committing beda and shirk. It is very dangerous brother.

You have many good posts but as I said to you before we should be more careful.

Insha'Allah I will post something about well known and adil ulema's view over this issue.

2 - verse 3:61 "Come Let us Call our sons and your sons  ... "

Replied in post no. 7. Further added from post no. 19.

From post no. 23, it is further added:

No one denies praying and calling to Allah swt for making Dua. There is no disagreement on it. The clarification of following verse indicates that it is a complete misconception to include Allah's Chosen Auliya as beings like us. These are  actually Auliya other than Allah swt, the Prophet and Ahl albayt & Imams.

Indeed, those you call upon  besides Allah are servants like you. So call upon them and let them respond to you, if you should be truthful. 7:194

قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَدْعُو رَبِّي وَلَا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ أَحَدًا {20}

[Pickthal 72:20] Say (unto them, O Muhammad): I pray unto Allah only, and ascribe unto Him no partner.
[Yusufali 72:20] Say: "I do no more than invoke my Lord, and I join not with Him any (false god)."

قُلْ إِنِّي لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا رَشَدًا {21}

[shakir 72:21] Say: I do not control for you evil or good.
[Pickthal 72:21] Say: Lo! I control not hurt nor benefit for you.
[Yusufali 72:21] Say: "It is not in my power to cause you harm, or to bring you to right conduct."

I think verse 72:21 compliments the verse before it, emphasizing even the best of creation doesn't have the power to control us harm or bring us to right conduct, but that it's in Allah's control, showing why prayer is to be to Allah alone.

This goes well with Imammate and the Unseen Sign only being something that God permits, and that perhaps this is what it is meant by the emphasis "a caller to God by his permission".

Even going to the Prophet (saw) to ask forgiveness for you, should be with the intention, that just like Ibrahim's prayers didn't avail his unjust dad/uncle, the same is true of us, we need to change ourselves, and pray to God sincerely like Nuh emphasized to his people to do for forgiveness, then God will surely help with however he wishes to do so and accept the intercession of intercessors.

But if the best of creation (Mohammad) doesn't control us harm or guidance, then surely Allah is the one to be sought for spiritual help and guidance and not other then him.

How does this contradict anything that has been said?

Then how it is going against anything that we are saying ? Allah doesn't accept anything unless waseelaa of prophet(pbuh) and imams(AS) isn't present.

Well, the Imams could have said to get your Du'as accepted, call upon the Imams instead of Allah and they respond to your call or pray for you instead of yourselves. But they said to do Salawat and do a Du'a to Allah (a heart reaching out to the Source and Master of the universe) and then do Salawat again.

This shows that Allah loves us to remember Ahlulbayt in our prayers, as is shown with the Du'as taught to us by Ahlulbayt, but then he still wants the one called upon and ask for to be himself, and he still wants us to communicate to him sincerely and call upon himself.

Well it's said we can't ask the Imams (as) for dua to get help from Allah,at least this is what I get from the posts.Asking Imams (as) to make dua for muslims, tawassul, does not mean that one prays to them...it's just the call for intercession.
