Do you think it is Haram to bring back an Extinct Animal such as the wolly mammoth which is looking to be more of a possibility.

Have our Ayatollah's discussed such a topic?

DNA of a Wolly Mammoth has already been merged with an Elephants: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/11488404/Woolly-mammoth-could-roam-again-as-extinct-DNA-merged-with-elephant.html

Could we use this method to save the different species of soon to be extinct animals.

(salam)

I personally think this would be a good thing. Animals do not have a nafs.

I forget what it is called, but using another species as a birthing site has been done for a long time.

The big problem with an extinct animal maybe current disease resistance.

I can't say according to my limited knowledge whether it is haram or halal, but I don't think this is technology that should be messed around with frivolously. You're dealing with already fragile ecosystems here. Plus, why are we talking about bringing the Wooly Mammoth back from extinction and using our elephants as guinea pigs when our elephants themselves are so close to extinction? Shouldn't all that research money be put into saving them first? The things we waste our time and money on.

Malcolm was right.
