I don't care about news. Especially the local news on TV about politicians is a serious waste.

I feel the same way, I rarely if ever watch the news on television. It's absolutely dismal and depressing.

I don't follow the news as much as I used to, but it's still important to keep abreast of what's going on around the world.

I hardly ever watch TV news. One time I was stuck in a place where CNN was constantly on, it basically just talked about was how horrible Muslims are and what horrible things they were doing the whole time, I felt like my head was going to explode.

If I learn about something by word of mouth, I come to ShiaChat to see if anyone started a topic on it, then google the news to see more details on a news website. I also get breaking news in my email account or turn on the radio at the top of the hour. Mostly I want to hear the weather report after the news. Or traffic report.

Why is it important? Did anyone ever benefit by it?

All I care about is the weather and business news. I need the weather reports to keep myself and my tiny society of farmers aware. I need the business news to learn the currency exchange rates and prices of items. Thats all.

It's important to at least care about news concerning your fellow Muslims per the hadith that says whoever wakes up unconcerned about the affairs of Muslims is not from them.

And although ignorance can be bliss sometimes, it's still ignorance....  :P Most news however is stuff that really doesn't matter like what some stupid celebrity or politician is doing. But it's still good to generally be aware of what's going on on a global scale. What if the world was ending and you didn't even know about it?

Local news is basically: "crime and slime" plus weather-based-hysteria

National news is a "weather channel" plus propaganda quips.

What else do we expect from people who studied "journalism"?

I like PressTV, Mint Press News, Democracy Now, RT , Veterans Today. I also check out articles from jpost, Fox News, ABC, CNN because it's important to see multiple perspectives on an issue and then through logic , history and proven facts determine the actual events occurring
