Salam alaykum.

Houthis or yemenis chew khat (not all but yeah)... Is it haram to chew that?

In my country it's forbidden.

http://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/drugfacts/khat

"Khat consumption induces mild euphoria and excitement, similar to that conferred by strong coffee.[2] Individuals become very talkative under the influence of the plant. The effects of oral administration of cathinone occur more rapidly than the effects of amphetamine pills; roughly 15 minutes as compared to 30 minutes in amphetamine. Khat can induce manicbehaviours and hyperactivity, similar in effects to those produced by amphetamine.[18]"

Some could argue that maybe the reason that the Houthis are willing to fight the Saudis is because they chew khat?

Salaam brothers and sisters,

If Khat is to be considered haram based on the principle that all mind-effecting substances are forbidden, does that not mean that we also must abandon and decry the use of coffee, tea, cacao, etc?

I don't know about you guys, but around my house that's not going to happen...

Wa Allahu a'alam
