Anyone have any sort of techniques to help with getting up for fajr prayer.

I wake up without full awareness and constantly hit the snooze button on my alarm for like an hour to three hours. Zzz.

Salam alaikum

Don't sleep late, sooner you sleep easier you wake up!

Ask Allah s.w to help you.

As soon you want too snooz say A'oozo bil'lah min a'shaytan e rajim, and try to sit first and then stand up, it might be hard at first but needs time and practice! Insha'Allah it helps.

You need one of those old fashioned alarm clocks that wind up with a key and keep it on the other side of the room. If you don't hear it, put it in a metal bowl to increase the sound. :)

The best advice would be to try and sleep earlier.

If you separate your prayers (maghreb & Isha') you could try the following:

- Pray Maghreb on time, then dedicate the time between Maghreb and the start of Isha to something meaniful and purposeful in regards to your relationship with Allah. For example, recite Du'a, memorise Quran, etc.

- Then pray isha, and read some Quran for 15 minutes, for example, then head to bed.

It is the reported Sunna of the Prophet to sleep after Isha.

The advices given above are just right. They won't really be too necessary when you get used to wake up with full awareness. If the body gets used to wake up after the alarm clock has sound at least three times, it will be difficult to wake up at the first one. It's just a matter of habit.

I also found useful the next dua'a, maybe it helps you too brother:

Imam al-Sadiq (as) reported the Holy Prophet (saww) as saying: Whoever intends to wake up at a particular time , may say the following words before he goes to sleep. If he does, Almighty Allah will order an angel to awaken him at the very time he intends to wake up:

اَللَّهُمَّ لاَ تُؤْمِنِّي مَكْرَكَ
allahumma la tu'minni makraka
O Allah, (please) do not make me feel secure against Your plans,

وَلاَ تُنْسِنِي ذِكْرَكَ
wa la tunsini dhikraka
do not make me forget remembrance of You,

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْنِي مِنَ ٱلْغَافِلِينَ
wa la taj`alni min alghafilina
and do not include me with the inattentive ones.

اقُومُ سَاعَةَ…
aqumu sa`ata… (eg: al sitta al fajr)
I may wake up at… (The time at which one intends to wake up may be mentioned now.)

May Allah's blessings be upon all of you. Thank you all.

I can normally wake up no problem when I go to bed at approx. 10:30pm, but often times I have to go to bed around 12.

I'll try all of the above, I'm sure I'll gain consistency within a few days with such solid advice from each of you. =)

Salam 3laykum.

There are these new alarm clocks I have been looking to buy, they apparently give you a natural wake up because it makes you think as if the sun has risen, so your mind automatically feel fresh and rested and you wake up because of the light and may be heat it gives.

Three hours of snooze button! That is time spent neither awake nor asleep! You need to train yourself to not use the snooze button at all. Sleep earlier if possible, and one method that works for many people is to drink a glass of water before you sleep so you have to get up.

Oh snap!  That's terrifying!

My wife loves to hit the snooze button, but I'd rather put the clock on the other side of the room so I have to get up to shut it off.  But she won on that difference of opinion.

For me what worked, especially having to get up very early during Ramadan (here in my area, it was around 3 in the morning) was to set the alarm on my fitbit.  The vibration on my wrist woke me up for sure.  Plus it didn't wake my wife up and she got to hit the snooze button like 5 times.  So everyone was happy.

True story.  I don't use alarm clocks.  And that's not a good thing.

If your internal clock can get you up on time, that's fantastic.  My internal clock is like a fat hamster on the wheel- s l o w!

I set two alarms, each one ten minutes apart. That way I get ten extra minutes to just lay in bed or doze off before I really need to get up for Fajr  :shifty:  For my brother an alarm clock never seems to wake him up (he'll just turn it off and go back to sleep) so he downloaded an app on his phone that recites the adhaan when it's time for Fajr. You can't exactly turn off the adhaan when it's being recited, and what's better than waking up to the call for prayer?

I sleep 2AM and wake up back 6AM for fajr prayer. I set alarms on my phone and put it somewhere far, so I have to get up.

Imam al-Sadiq (As) said,  Last verse of Surah Kahf (18:110) serves as an alarm clock, recite the verse before sleeping with the intention you want to wake up at that particular time. I tried this, and it works, I woke up before my alarm.

And I use this verse too, and every time I use it, I get up at or just before the desired time.

Here is the verse for reference:

018:110 Say, ‘I am just a mankind like you. It has been revealed to me that your God is the one god. So whoever hopes to meet his Lord — then let him do righteous deeds and not associate anyone else in the the worship of his Lord.’

^I'll be sure to keep that in mind if I fall off again La inshallah.

So I ended up trying a bunch of different things and,

what ended up working for me is a combo of:

changing the sound of the alarm every few days, drinking water be4 I sleep, and reciting Sura al-nas, sura al-falaq, then ayat al-kursi (I opted for those 3 in particular because it helps keep my sleep nightmare-free as well as waking me on time)

I have problems by waking up now... I will try to read the Quran-verse which heliwave gave. Inshallah.

Trust me, it works. I only sleep 4 hours a day plus I always have longs day and do training in the evening. Whenever I recite this verse, I wake up exactly, on the time I intended for.

Now, I did not recite the verse before sleeping, but I recited it. Now, I also activated to alarms (one with ziyarat Ahle Yasin) and one with Quran.

And I, subhanallah, woke up without feeling really tired or wanting to just sleep. I don't know. Maybe it was because I placed the phone on a table.

(salam)

I've struggled to wake up for fajr this winter, and where I live, fajr is really late over the winter months (7am at it's latest).

Over the last eight days, I have completely changed my diet, I haven't eaten any processed sugar, I've started doing a bit of exercise, and in the morning I make a fruit/veg mix drink (in a blender I put spinach, cucumber, banana, apple, carrot, broccoli, ginger, lemon juice, a bit of water) - I drink that in the morning then again in the evening if there is any left. I've also stopped eating white flour.

SubhanAllah, I feel like a different person, my alarm is set for 5am, but I'm lying awake at least 20 minutes before that, I'm feeling really clear headed, I have lots of energy without needing any caffeine to get me through the day. In the evening I sleep really well and all in all, I feel like a different person.

You are what you eat isn't just a baseless saying, it is the truth.

I will give you guys sort of a different insight. We are all giving advice and looking at waking up. But one of the best concept for me to wake up for fajr is the importance of if it is not done. (Hope it does not sound confusing) Basically what I do if I don't wake up for fajr, I feel really bad. Like I let down the prophets and the Imams bbut most importantly Allah. I blame everything that goes wrong in the day on because I did not wake for fajr salat on time.

:bismillah:

Salam Alaikom, it is not good to blame everything that happens to one because one missed a fajr prayer during the day; does it not make one to be afraid if not pray something will happen as a habit. Anyways, one of the things maybe we should all think is that many artificial means and things are in today's world in place of ecological or creational/natural ways. Example we thing we should use an alarm clock to wake up but the thing is if someone is weak in their religion they will not wake up if in the room 100s of clocks active. Sure i agree that if we are afraid that we may not wake because of starting our sleep late at night than sure we can use a clock and view it as a tool for a back up. But we must train, and it is proper to train our creational ability to wake up automatic when it is prayer time and take help from specific Holy Quran verses and praying supplication that is for sleep. Also taking wudhu helps us to have better sleep and remember to wake up on time.

well i generally wake up but dont "get" up. but my technique is to play 4 alarms each 2 minutes after the previous ends... and also place the mobile or alarm clock above the closet.... so i have to get up and jump to get it :D... wakes me up real good.

First of all, have a strong intention and desire to want to wake up for fajr.

Secondly, sleep as early as possible.

thirdly, place your alarm somewhere you have to get up to turn off.

Lastly, encourage yourself, do something so that you look forward to waking up, i.e. exercising or reading etc.

Besides reading Du'as or Qur'an before going to bed, if you have two devices with an alarm ability, and people in your household don't mind, have one alarm near the light switch of your room, or if that would be to close to your bed, have it as far away as possible. Then, if you feel that it would be too far for you to hear, have one going off at about the same time near you. That way you will have to get up and walk to wake yourself up. Make it a priority, after you wake up, to open light and put water on your face. Have a bowl of water nearby if you want to sprinkle some on. You should probably motivate yourself before going to sleep by reading some consequences of missing salat or benefits of doing it. Hope this helps
