Advice to keep light in this world

Your ultimate goal [reward or punishment] is before you. Behind your back is the hour [of resurrection] which is driving you on. Keep [yourself] light and overtake [the forward ones]. Your last ones are being awaited by the first ones [who have preceded].

as-Sayyid ar-Radi says: If this utterance of `Ali (p.b.u.h.) is weighed with any other utterance except the word of Allah or of the Holy Prophet, it would prove heavier and superior in every respect. For example, `Ali’s saying “Keep light and overtake” is the shortest expression ever heard with the greatest sense conveyed by it. How wide is its meaning and how clear its spring of wisdom! We have pointed out the greatness and meaningfulness of this phrase in our book al-Khasa’is.

From Imam al-Baqir and al-Sadiqع, they said: "Verily alcohol is the head of all sins". [al-Kafi]

A man asked Imam al-Sadiqع: "May Allahس grant you prosperity, which is more evil; the drinking of alcohol or the abandoning of the obligatory prayer(salat)?" The Imamع responded: "The drinking of alcohol". Then the Imamع asked him: "Do you know the reason for that?" The man said: "No". The Imamع responded: "Because the drunkard will enter a state where he will no longer know his Lord". [al-Kafi]

Death and taking lessons from it

Indeed, if you could see that has been seen by those of you who have died, you would be puzzled and troubled. Then you would have listened and obeyed; but what they have seen is yet curtained off from you. Shortly, the curtain would be thrown off. You have been shown, provided you see and you have been made to listen provided you listen, and you have been guided if you accept guidance. I spoke unto you with truth.

You have been called aloud by (instructive) examples and warned through items full of warnings. After the heavenly messengers (angels), only man can convey message from Allah. (So what I am conveying is from Allah).

Tawalla and Tabarra in our Gatherings ...

Narrated from Aban bin Usman, from Ismail al-Basari who said, I head Aba Abdillah Imam Sadiq (as) saying:

"Do you sit in a place and narrate Ahadith and say whatever you like and do tabarra from whomever you like and to tawalla (befriend) from whomever you like?

I (the narrator) said, 'Yes'. Imam (as) said, "Is luxury anything but this?".

Imam Hasan (as) killed in the same manner as the Prophet was killed !!!

Narrated from Imam Sadiq (as) from His Fathers (as) that Imam Hasan (as) said to His family, "Indeed I will die due to Poison similar to how the Prophet (saww) died. They said, "Who will do this?" Imam (as) said, "My wife Jo'adah bint al-Ash'as bin Qais (la), verily Muawiya (la) will order her to do this...."

In a dialogue between the Prophet and the Jews, he said: And for Friday, on that (day) the first and the last (nations) will be gathered by Allah for their reckoning. So every believer who walk to the congregation (for the Friday prayer) will have the horrors of the Day of Judgement lightened for him by Allah [awj], and will be ushered into heaven.

(not a literal translation)

What annoys me the most is that I can't even see the button that you have to press in order to cross out the writing...there is no icon of a man banging in head into a wall, or else I would have posted it

Allah (swt) addresses himself in Quran as I and WE??

Part of a lengthy narration in which Imam Ali (as) answers to various objects raised upon the verses of the Qur'an:

Imam Ali (as) says,

"Regarding Allah (swt) addressing himself with singularity (I) sometimes and with plurality (We) sometimes, this from among the characteristics of Allah (swt). Verily Allah (swt) whenever He uses singularity (I) to address Himself & introduce his oneness, it refers to that, He is the very ancient and ever existing (eternal) light (Noor) and there is nothing like Him and He does not undergo any changes. He orders whatever He wishes and chooses whomever he wants. And Here is none to stop His orders and none to reject His decisions. And whatever He created did not increase his kingdom and His might, and did not decrease anything from it what He did not create. Surely He choose to create so as to display His power and demonstrate His authority and to makeclear the proofs of His wisdom. So He created whatever He wished and However he wished."

And He carried out acts of some of the things upon the hands of those whom He chose from His trustees. So their act is His act and their order is His order, like the saying of Allah (swt), "And Whoever obeys the Prophet, then he has obeyed Allah (swt)" (4:80). And made the sky and the earth containers for whomever he wished from his creations, so as to differentiate the bad from the good, although he from before had knowledge of the people of these 2 groups (bad and good) (then they do about themselfs). So as to make that an example for his friends and trustees. And He defined to the creations the preferred status of his friends and made obligatory upon them their obedience just like he made obligatory his obedience.

And He proved to them that he gave them speech indicating his uniqueness (individuality) and oneness, and that He has custodians (Awliya) whose actions and judgements/decisions are on the same path as His deeds, indeed they are his Honoured Slaves, They speak not until He has spoken, and they act on His Command, and strengthened them with Ruh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself.

And He made known to the creations their authority upon the knowledge of the Unseen (ilm al Gaib) by his saying, 'The knower of the unseen, and does not make anyone aware of his unseen except whom He chooses from His messengers (72:26)'. And they are the blessings about which the creations will be asked, because Allah (swt) through them blessed those who obey them from among his friends."

The person asked, "Who are these Hujjaj (proofs)?"

Imam Ali (as) said, "They are Prophet of Allah (saww) and those who succeeded him who are selected by Allah (swt) and they are the Wali-Amr (gaurdians) regarding them Allah (swt) says,

"Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you." (4:59)

And says, "If they had only referred it to the Messenger, or to those charged with authority among them, the proper investigators would have Tested it from them." (4:83)

The person asked, "What is that Amr?"

Imam Ali (as) said, "That (Amr) is with which the angels descend in the night in which all the wise matters (Amr) are distinguished, from creation (Khalq), livelihood (Rizq) and life and death and the unseen knowledge of the heavens and the earth and the Miracles that is not for any one but Allah and his selected ones and he means between Him and this creations." And they are the face of Allah (swt) regarding which Allah (swt) said, "Where you turn you will find the face of Allah (swt)" (2:115)

Eid-e-Zahra (sa) is also called as Eid al-Baqr .. But Why ???

After Abu Bakr and Umar refused to give Fadak to Fatema Zahra (sa) and then Abu Bakr while Umar was not present, gave Fadak to Her by writing on a piece of paper. Then Umar met Fatema Zahra (sa) and snatched the paper from her and tore it. At that moment Fatema Zahra (sa) said to Umar;

"May Allah (swt) tear open your stomach like how you tore my paper"

[Source: Sharh Nahjul Balagha - Ibn Abil Hadeed, Vol. 16, Pg. 235]

Explaining the meaning of Eid al-Baqr, Sayed Sadiq Rouhani says:

"The day of Al-Baqr refers to the day of cutting of the stomach of an enemy of Fatema Zahra (sa). And that enemy is the one who oppressed Her and attached Her and squeezed  her and caused the falling of her Baby, resulting in her martyrdom, like has been reported extensively in books of both the groups (shia and sunni). And surely the stomach of that enemy was cut open on the 9th of Rabi al-Awwal at the hands of the great Taaba'ii, Abi Luluh al-Nahawandi al-Madani. So the Shias celebrate this day as the day of a Eid al-Baqr. Because they believe that Allah (swt) on this day took revenge for Fatema Zahra (sa) from those who oppressed her and offended her sanctity by cutting His stomach ripping it apart."

About measures and weights, the transience of this world and the condition of its people

O servants of Allah! You and whatever you desire from this world are like guests with fixed period of stay, and like debtors called upon to pay. Life is getting short while (the records of) actions are being preserved. Many strivers are wasting (their efforts) and many of those who exert are heading towards harm. You are in a period when steps of virtue are moving backwards, steps of evil are moving forward and Satan is increasing his eagerness to ruin people. This is the time that his equipment is strong, his traps have been spread and his prey has become easy (to catch).

Cast your glance over people wherever you like, you will see either a poor man suffering from poverty, or a rich man ignoring Allah despite His bounty over him, or a miser increasing his wealth by trampling on Allah's obligations, or an unruly person closing his ears to all counsel. Where are your good people; where are your virtuous people? Where are your high spirited men and generous men? Where are those of you who avoid deceit in their business and remain pure in their behaviour? Have they not all departed from this ignoble, transitory and troublesome world? Have you not been left among people who are just like rubbish and so low that lips avoid mention of them and do not move even to condemn their low position.

... "Verily we are Allah's and verily unto Him shall we return." (Qur'an, 2:156)

“Mischief has appeared..” (30:41) and there is no one to oppose and change it, nor anyone to dissuade from it or desist from it.

Do you, with these qualities, hope to secure abode in the purified neighbourhood of Allah and to be regarded His staunch lovers? Alas! Allah cannot be deceived about His paradise and His will cannot be secured save by His obedience. May Allah curse those who advise good but they themselves avoid it, and those who desist others from evil but they themselves act upon it.

Quote

Jesus [a] was with his apostles, when his apostles said, "O Teacher of Goodness, guide us."

So Jesus said, "Moses [a], the one to whom  Allah spoke to, commanded you to not swear to God when you are lying, whereas I command you not to swear to God when you are lying or telling the truth."

The apostles said, "O Spirit of Allah, tell us more."

So Jesus said, "Moses, the prophet of Allah, commanded you to not fornicate, whereas I command you to not have thoughts of fornication in your mind, in addition to not fornicating. For one who has thoughts of fornication in his mind is like on who kindles a fire in a decorated house. The smoke ruins the decorations, even if the house does not burn."

...From al-Sadiq b. Muhammad عليهما السلام he said: I was amazed at he who feared four (things), and how he did not seek refuge in four. I was amazed at he who was afraid, and how he did not seek refuge in His words عز وجل: Allah is sufficient for us, and He is an excellent trustee (3:173) for verily I have heard Allah جل جلاله saying after it: So they returned with Allah’s blessing and grace, untouched by any harm (3:174)

And I was amazed at he who was distressed, how he did not seek refuge in His عز وجل words: There is no god except You! You are immaculate! I have indeed been among the wrongdoers!’ (21:87) for verily I have heard Allah عز وجل saying after it: So We answered his prayer and delivered him from the agony; and thus do We deliver the faithful (21:88)

And I was amazed at he who was cheated, how he did not seek refuge in His words: and I entrust my affair to Allah. Indeed Allah watches His servants (40:44) for verily I have heard Allah جل وتقدس saying after it: Then Allah saved him from their evil schemes (40:45)

And I was amazed at he who wanted the world and it's ornaments, how he did not seek refuge in His تبارك وتعالى words: [This is] as Allah has willed! There is no power except by Allah! (18:39) for verily I have heard Allah عز اسمه saying after it: If you see that I have lesser wealth than you and children, maybe my Lord will give me [something] better than your garden (18:39/40) - and "maybe" means "inevitable"

Abu Ja'far Muhammad b. 'Ali al-Baqirع was asked by a man: What is the mighty river(al-Nahr al-'Adheem)

Heع answered: The knowledge that Allahسبحانه وتعالى bestowed upon His Messenger. Verily Allahعز وجل gathered all the Sunan of all the past prophets staring from Adamع until they reached Muhammadص.

Then the Imamع was asked by a man: What are those Sunan of the past prophets?

The Imamع answered: The complete knowledge and teachings of the prophetsع which Allah's Messengerص transferred all of it to Amir al-Mu'mineenع.

The man asked the Imam: O son of Allah's Messengerص, who is more knowledgable; Amir al-Mu'mineenع or some of the past prophetsع?

The Imamع responded: Listen to what he says, verily Allahسبحانه وتعالى opens the hearing of whoever He wishes! I just informed him that Allahصبحانه وتعالى gathered for Muhammadص the complete knowledge of the past prophetsع who then transferred all of it to Amir al-Mu'mineenع and he asks me if he(Amir al-Mu'mineen) is more knowledgable or some of the past prophets!? Prophet Mohammad (saww) said:
"O Ali, Surely Allah (swt) gave preference to His Prophets and Messengers above his close angels and gave preference to Me above all the Prophets and Messengers and preference after Me is for You O'Ali and for the Imam's after you. And surely the Angels are our servants and the servants of those who love Us."

Commanding people to do good and prohibiting from doing wrong is very important and something everyone must do as per their capacity ..

"Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘You must ask (command) others to do good and prohibit them to commit evil, otherwise, the evil ones among you will be made your rulers and then the virtuous ones among you pray and their prayers will not be answered."

A man asked Imam al-Redhaع, he said: In regards to Allahعز وجل, can He be described? The Imamع answered: Do you not read the Quran? The man said: Of course. The Imamع said: Have you not read Allah'sعز وجل saying: "Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision" (al-An'am:103). Do you know what the visions(Absar) are? The man answered: Yes, the vision of the eyes. The Imamع said: Surely the imaginations of the heart are greater than the visions of the eyes. And yet He cannot not be perceived via imaginations while He perceives all forms of imaginations. [al-Kafi]

A man wrote to Imam al-'Askariع to ask him: How can the servant worship his lord while he cannot see Him(with the eyes)? The Imam answered: O Abu Yusef, Allahعز وجل is greater than to be seen with the eyes. Then the Imam was asked: Did Allah's Messengerص see his Lord(during the Isra' and Mi'raj)? The Imam answered: Verily Allahتبارك وتعالى  showed His Messenger from the Light(Noor) of His might as much as He wished to show him. [al-Kafi]

A man from the Khawarij entered upon Imam al-Baqirع and asked him: O Abu Ja'far what is it that you worship? Imam al-Baqirع answered: Allahعز وجل. The man asked: Have you seen Him? Imam al-Baqirع answered: The eyes can never see Him through vision. But rather, it is the hearts that will see Him through the reality of faith(Eman). He is not know by analogies, nor is He comprehended via the senses and He is not compared with the people. He is described by His signs and known by indicators(of his creation). His authority does not oppress, verily this is Allahجل جلاله, there is no deity but Him. Then the man said as he was leaving: "Allah is most knowing of where He places His message" (al-An'am:124). 6 - علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، ومحمد بن يحيى، عن محمد بن الحسن، عمن ذكره جمعيا عن ابن أبي عمير، عن أبن اذينة، عن بريد بن معاوية قال: قلت لابي جعفر عليه السلام: " قل كفى بالله شهيدا بيني وبينكم ومن عنده علم الكتاب(6) "؟

A man asked Abi Ja'far Muhammad al-Baqirع in regards to the saying of Allah 'Azawajjal: "And those who have disbelieved say, "You are not a messenger." Say, [O Muhammad], "Sufficient is Allah as Witness between me and you, and [the witness of] whoever has knowledge of the Scripture." (ar-Ra'ad:43). The Imam answered: This is directed at us(A'immah) with 'Aliع being the best and superior to us after Allah's Messengerص. [al-Kafi]

Very quick and rough translation: "The disbelievers(Kuffar) belittled the Noble Quran, and they rejected it's signs that confirm the prophecy of Muhammad(saw). They requested other signs to be brought to them, so Allah 'Azawajjal responded to them in the Quran over what they requested by rebuking and refuting their false claims. Then when they were unable to refute the Book of Allah, they rejected the entire message by stating that Muhammad(saw) is not a prophet nor a messenger. So Allah declared to His prophet that he is a proof over them with two witnesses to support him. So the first witness for the prophet is Allah Almighty were He has confirmed in His book that Muhammad(saw) is indeed among the messengers(Surat Yaseen), and verily there is no attestation as great as the attestation of Allah Tabaraka Wata'alah. And the second witness whom Allah 'Azawajjal equated His attestation with his is (whoever has knowledge of the Scripture). And the Kitab(Scripture) is the Quran that the disbelievers belittled. And verily this second witness who accepted the prophecy of Muhammed is found near them(the Kuffar), and he is the most knowledgeable of the Noble Quran from them. Verily this second witness is 'Ali b. Abi Taleb(as). And why wouldn't he be the second witness considering that he is not separated from the Quran as per the Hadith of al-Thaqalyn and being the most knowledgeable of it? So indeed you have great knowledge, O 'Ali, to the extent that Allah equated His attestation to the prophecy of Muhammad against the Kuffar with yours."

From Imam al-Sadiqع: Verily Allahعز وجل increased the wealth of the foolish ones in order to set an example for the wise ones to learn from - that the adornments of the Dunya are not always obtained via the 'Aql(intellect) or creativity. ['Ilal al-Sharai']

From Imam al-Sadiqع, he said: Allah's Messengerص said: We(The Prophet and A'immah) in authority, understanding of the religion and in issuing the Halal and the Haram are all one. Then the Imamع said: As for Allah's Messengerص and 'Aliع, they have their own(unique) superiority. [al-Kafi]

I know this is going to upset a few people(apologies in advance), but i will post it none-theless:

Translated by Brother Nader Zaveri or Islamic Salvation:

532. Hamdawayh who said: narrated to us Ya’qub from Ibn Abi Umayr from Shuayb from Abi Basir who said: I said to Abi Abdillah عليه السلام – they do say, he said: and what do they say? I said: they say that you know the number of the drops in the rain, and the number of the stars, and the number of leaves in all the trees, and the weight of what is in the ocean, and the number of sand particles, so he عليه السلام raised his hand to the sky and said: praise be to Allah, praise be to Allah, no by Allah, no one knows this except for Allah.

Musnad Ahmed ibn Hanbal

The Messenger of Allah (S) told me:

You are like Jesus. The Jews hated him so much that they slandered his mother, and the Christians because of their extreme devotion to him placed him in a position which was not his.”

Then (Imam) ‘Ali (‘a) said:

Two persons [groups] are doomed concerning me; the devoted extremist exalting me to what I am not, and the spiteful hater bearing malice towards me and slandering me).1

"On every Friday the spirits of the dead come to the homes and call out: O people of my house! May Allah bless you, have mercy on us. Whatever we have done in this world, we are facing its consequences now, while the fruits of our toil are being enjoyed by others. Favour us by giving on our behalf a dirham, or a bread, or clothes, so that Allah may reward you with a heavenly attire."

“What is wrong with you people? When you hear about the family of Ibrahim you become happy, but when you hear about my family your hearts become disgusted. I swear to Allah in whose Hand is my life, that on the Day of Judgement even if you come with the good deeds of seventy prophets, Allah will reject you if you do not accept my Wilayat and the Wilayat of my family.”
