Nahjul Balaqa, Part of Sermon 83

Fear Allah like him who listened (good advice) and bowed before it,

when he committed sin he admitted it,

when he felt fear he acted virtuously,

when he apprehended he hastened (towards good acts),

when he believed he performed virtuous acts,

when he was asked to take lesson (from the happenings of this world) he did take the lesson,

when he was warned he became caution,

when he was asked to desist he abstained (from evil),

when he responded to the call (of Allah) he leaned (towards him),

when he turned back (to evil) he repented,

when he followed he almost imitated and

when he was shown (the right path) he saw it ...

When you are in need, here is what the Imams a.s teach us what to say:

H 3255, CH 44, h 1
Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from
Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ayyub ibn al-Hurr brother of ‘Udaym from abu ‘Abd
Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, who has said the following:
“Whoever says ten times, ‘O Lord.’ It will be said to him,
“Your call for help is well heard and noted. What kind of help
do you need?’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from

ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the
following:

“Abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, has
said, ‘It is in the book of Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib,
recipient of divine supreme covenant, “praise comes before
asking for favors. Whenever you like to pray and plead before
Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, for help, speak of His
glory.” The narrator has said that I asked the Imam, ‘How
should we speak of His glory?’ The Imam said, ‘Say, O You
Who are closer to me than my jugular veins, O the One Who
does without fail as He wishes, O the One Who stands between a
man and his heart, O the One Who is on a high position and the
One like Whom is no creature.’”

H 3047, CH 1, h 1
Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz
from Zurara from abu Ja’far, recipient of divine supreme covenant, who has said
the following:

“Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, has said, ‘Those
who consider themselves above the need to worship Me will
soon go to hell in disgrace.’ (40:60)

“The Imam said, ‘This is a reference to prayer. The best form
of worship is prayer (pleading before Allah for help).’ I (the
narrator) then asked, ‘What is meant by: Ibrahim is la awwahu,
prayerful and forbearing?’ The Imam said, ‘It means pleading
for help before Allah.’”

A number of our companions from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid al-Barqi from his father from an-Nadr b. Suwayd from Yahya al-Halabi from Ibn Muskan from Zurara b. A`yan.

He said: I heard Abu `Abdillah عليه السلامsaying: Verily Allah is devoid of His creation and His creation is devoid of Him. And all upon which the name of “thing” befalls – apart from Allah – it is created. And Allah is the creator of everything. Blessed be the one who nothing is like unto Him. And He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing. (al-Kafi, Volume 1, hadith 220)

He said: A man came to Abu’l Hasan ar-Rida عليه السلام from beyond the Balkh river and said: I will ask you a question, if your answer to me is the same as that which is with me [i will accept your cause]. So Abu’l Hasan عليه السلام said: Ask whatever you wish. So he said: Inform me about your Lord, when did He come into being? And how is His state? And upon what thing does He rely? So Abu’l Hasan عليه السلام said: Allah تبارك وتعالى was there before there was a “there”, and He was being before there was a “how”, and His reliance is upon His power. So the man rose to him and kissed his head, and said: I bear witness that there is no god except Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and that `Ali is the deputy of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله and the succeeding upholder of what the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله established, and that you are the righteous Imams and the successors after them. (al-Kafi, Volume 1, hadith 233) Graded SAHIH by Alama Majlisi

It has been reported in Rijal Kashi (Page 225) that Imam Ja'far al Sadiq  (as) said: "By Allah! We are not but slaves of the one who created us and chose us, and we do not have control over (any) harm or benefit, and if we are shown mercy so it is by His rahmah (mercy/grace), and if we are punished then it is due to our own sins, by Allah we do not have a hujjah (overwhelming argument) upon Allah (to hold Him obliged) and no means of prevention from His turning (His mercy) away, and indeed we will definitely die, be buried, be gathered/spread out (on qiyamah), resurrected, raised and questioned. Torment/disaster be for them! What is wrong with them?! Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì's la'nah (damnation) be on them! (i.e. on those who claim otherwise) They have certainly hurt (angered) Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì, His prophet  (pbuh) in his grave, Ali, Fatima, Hasan, Hussain, Zainul Abideen and al Baqir. Be witness you people that I have ordered my progeny of the prophet(pbuh), and none is with me (to protect) from bar'ah (dissociation) of Allah. If I obey Him then He will bless me and if I disobey Him then He will severely punish me."

From Aboo Khaalid Al-Kaabulee (Kankar) from Abee Ja`far (عليه السلام): He said: (asked about the words) «God tells a parable in which there is a company of quarrelsome people and only one of them is well disciplined. Can they be considered as equal? » (39:39).

He (عليه السلام) said: «The quarrelsome ones» are because the first ones gather the different ones in his leadership and they did la`nah (curse) and did bara’a (disassociate) from each other. «The well disciplined man» is the first in the matters of his right as well as his Shee`ahs (followers).

Then He (عليه السلام) said: “The Jews after Moosa (عليه السلام) separated into 71 sects of which one is in Jannah (i.e. Heaven) and the (remaining) 70 sects are in the fire (i.e. Hell).
And the Christians after `Eesa (عليه السلام) separated into 72 sects of which one sect is in Jannah and the (remaining) 71 (sects) are in the fire.
And this Ummah after the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) separated into 73 sects and 72 sects are in the fire and one sect is in Jannah and from the 73 sects, 13 of the sects plagiarize/impersonate friendship and wilayah of us (the Imaams), and 12 sects from it are in the fire, and one sect is in Jannah, and the (remaining) 60 sects from the rest of the people are in the fire”

`Ali from his father from ibn Abi `Umayr from ibn Udhayna from Zurara from Abu Ja`far

He said: Jibra’il عليه السلام descended upon the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله with two pomegranates from Paradise. So he (i.e. the Prophet) took one and ate it; then he broke the other into two halves. He then gave `Ali عليه السلام one half, and he ate it. So he said: O `Ali, the first pomegranate which I had eaten was prophethood; for you there is no share in it. And as for the second [pomegranate], it is knowledge, and you are my partner in it.

Several of our companions from Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah from Muhammad b. `Isa from Yunus b. `Abd ar-Rahman from al-Hasan b. as-Sari from Jabir b. Yazeed al-Ju`fi.

He said: I asked Abu Ja`far عليه السلام something about monotheism (tawhid), so he said: Allah, whose names are holy and by them He is called, is exalted by His being. He is one; united solitarily in His oneness. He then made His creatures and thus He is one, self-sufficient (samad), and holy. He is worshiped by all things, and all things depend on Him. His knowledge expands over all things. (al-Kafi, Volume 1, hadith 320)

The Prophet (S) said: “Do not utter the imperfect blessings for me.”

They asked: “What is the imperfect blessings?”

He answered: “The imperfect blessings is to say ‘Lord, bless Muhammad,’ and keep silent. You must say, ‘Lord, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad."11

A man asked Imam ar-Rida [a], "May I be your sacrifice! [is this permissible:] a man is with a group, and there are conversations between them wherein they joke and laugh."

The Imam said, "There is no problem - as long as it (indecency) does not occur."

Then, the Imam said, "A bedouin man used to come to the Messenger of Allah and give him some things as gifts, then he (the bedouin) used to [jokingly] say to him: 'Pay us the price of our gifts!' and the Messenger of Allah used to laugh. So whenever he was sad, he would say, 'What is the bedouine man up to? If only he could come to us now.'

Kitab Al Kafi – Volume 2

From him (–) his father (–) Sulaymãn al-Ja‘farī (–) Abu 'l-Ḥasan ar-Riḍã that his father (‘a.s.) said:

Some people were taken to the Messenger of Allãh (ṣ.a.‘a.w.a.w.s.) during some of his expeditions (ghazawãt) against infidels. He said: 'Who

are these people?' They said:" (We are) believers, O Messenger of Allãh!' He said: 'What is the grade of your belief?' They said: 'Patience against calmity, thankful against trials, and content with the Divine decree.' The Messenger of Allãh (ṣ.a.‘a.w.a.w.s.) then said: 'These are the attributes of

those who are patient among the scholars that due to the access of knowledge they are near to (the rank) of prophets. If you are as you described, then do not construct what you do not live in, and do not collect what you do not eat and fear Allãh to Whom you will be returned.' "

Very Important narration about feeding believers

“Abu Abd Allah Imam Sadiq (as), has said, "Feeding a believer is, indeed, more beloved to me than setting free ten slaves and performing ten Hajj.’ I (the narrator) then asked, ‘Is it like setting free ten slaves and performing ten Hajj?’

He has said that the Imam said, ‘O Nasr, if you do not feed him he will die or you will humiliate him, then he will go to one who is a bitter enemy (Nasibi) of the Imam and will ask him for help. Death is better for him than asking help from such enemy of the Imam. O Nasr, giving life to a believer is like giving life to all mankind. If you do not feed him you have caused his death, if you feed him you have given him life."

‪The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘Verily every single Muslim is to give in charity every single day.’ When asked who would be capable of such a thing, he replied, ‘Your removal of an obstacle from the road is a charitable act; your guiding someone the way is a charitable act; your visiting the sick is a charitable act; your enjoinment of good to others is a charitable act; your forbidding others from wrongdoing is a charitable act, and your returning the greeting of peace is a charitable act.’[ibid. v. 75, p. 50, no. 4]

The Muslim Ummah at the End of the Time

The Holy Prophet (S) said: "There will come a time for people that: they will not respect their scholars except for their good clothing; they will not hearken to the Qur'an except for the pleasant voice; and they will not worship Allah except for during the fasting month; there will be no shyness in their women, no patience in their poor ones; and no prosperity for their rich ones, they will not be contented with a small (portion), and they will not be satiated with abundance. They will strive (only) for their stomach; their religion is their money (wealth); their women are their Qiblah (direction of worship); and their homes are their mosques; they run away from their scholars just as lambs run away from wolves.

Then, when they become like that, the Lord will afflict them with three conditions. At first, He takes the prosperity from their properties. The second is that a cruel ruler will dominate them. The third is that they will pass away from this world without having (true) Faith."

He said, ‘May I be sacrificed for you, we are being named by a name which is breaking our backs, and killing our hearts, and our blood has been declared lawful to be shed in the Hadeeth which are being narrated to them from their scholars’. Abu Abdullah said: ‘Is it ‘Al-Rafiza’ (the rejectors)?’ He said, ‘Yes’. He said: ‘No, by Allah, they are not the ones who have named you as such, but it is Allah Who has Named you all with it’.

But, do you know, O Abu Muhammad that seventy men from the Children of Israel rejected the Pharaoh and his people, when they detected his misguidance. So they attached themselves with Musa when they detected his guidance. So they were named (referred to) in the army of Musa as Al-Rafiza (The Rejectors) because they had rejected the Pharaoh, and they were the most intense worshippers in that army, and very intense in their love for Musa and Haroun and their offspring.

So Allah Mighty and Majestic Revealed unto Musa that: “Establish this name for them in the Torah, for I has Named them with it, and have Gifted it to them”. So Musa established the name for them, then Allah Mighty and Majestic Reserved this name for you all to the extent that we have gifted it to you.

O Abu Muhammad, they rejected the good, and you have rejected the evil. All the people have separated into sects, and they all divided into branches. You have branched out with the People of the Household of your Prophet, and you did what they did, and you chose what Allah had Chosen for you, and you wanted what Allah wanted. So received glad tidings upon glad tidings, for By Allah, you (Shiites) are ones with whom Allah has been Merciful, the ones whose good deeds will be Accepted, and the sins being Overlooked. The one who does not come to Allah Mighty and Majestic, with what you are upon, on the Day of Judgement, the good deeds will not be Accepted from him, nor will his sins be Overlooked. O Abu Muhammad, have I made you happy?’ He said, ‘May I be sacrificed for you, increase it for me’.

~ Complaining to Allah during an illness ~

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Jamil ibn Salih who has said the following:

“Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, on being asked about the limits of (negative) complaints against an illness by the patient, the Imam said that if a man says, ‘I have fever today and last night I did not sleep restfully’ and what he says is true, it is not a complaint. A (negative) complaint is if one says, ‘I have suffered like no other person has suffered and I am placed in trial as no other person is.’ Just saying that one could not sleep restfully last night and that he has fever today is not complaining against an illness.”

The Holy Prophet (S) said: "He who marries a woman only for her beauty (regardless of her Faith), he will not see (gain) what he likes; and he who marries a woman only for her wealth, Allah will leave him with that wealth only. Therefore, it is to you that you look for a religious wife."

Ali bin Ahmed bin Abdullah narrated to us from his father from his grandfather from Ahmed bin Abi Abdullah al-Barqi from his father from Amr bin Shemr from Abdullah;

Imam as-Sadiq (as) said, "He who believes in seven things is (regarded as) believer,  "Baraat (disavowal) from the Jibt and Taghut[Abu Bakr and Umar are referred to Jibt and Taghut], the declaration of the Wilayah (of the Imams), the belief of rajaah (return) the legality of the temporary marriage (Mutah), the illegality of the (flesh of) eel, and the illegality of passing the (wet) hands over the slippers (during the ritual ablutions).

Giving Sadaqah to those how oppose the Truth..

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Sadir al-Sayrafiy who has said the following:

“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘I know someone is asking for help, but I do not know if he is a Muslim or not.’ The Imam said, ‘You can give charity to one whom you do not know is a friend or enemy of the truth. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, has said, “Say good words to people.” (2:83) Do not give charity to those who are hostile to the truth or call people to something of falsehood.’”

~ Wahy (Revelation) in the house of Ali (as) and Fatema (sa) ~

Narrated by Shaikh Abu Jafar Toosi from his chain of narrators from Ajlaan al-Sakooni who said,

I heard Abu Jafar Imam Baqir (as) saying, "The House of Ali (as) and Fatema (sa) is from the room of the Prophet (saww). And the roof of their house is the throne of the Lord of the worlds [Arsh Rabul Aalimeen]. And in the bottom of their house there is a opening reaching the Throne - the place of ascension of the revelation and the angels descending upon them with revelations in the morning and evening and in every hour and in every blink of the eye. And the groups of the angels do not stop (are continuous), a group coming down and a group ascending. Verily Allah, removed the covering of the heavens for Ibraheem (as) such that he saw the throne (Arsh) and Allah increased the power of his sight. And indeed Allah increased the power of sight of Mohammad (saww), Ali (as), Fatema (sa), al-Hasan (as) and al-Husain (as) and they all were seeing the throne (Arsh) and they did not find any other roof of their house other than the Arsh, because their house was roofed with the throne (Arsh of Rahmaah), and the place of ascension of the angels and the soul (Rooh), group after group continuously coming, and there is no house from the houses of the Imam's (as) but that it is a place of ascension of the angels, as the saying of Allah, "Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah's permission, will all affairs.".

I (the narrator) said, "With all affairs"? Imam (as) said, "With all the affairs".

I (the narrator) said, "This revelation (Quran)"? Imam (as) said, "Yes".
