A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad Ibn Abu Abdillah from Ya‘qoub Ibn Yazid from the cousin of Omar Ibn Yazeed from daughter of Omar Ibn Yazeed from her father who has said the following:

“Abu Abdillah (عليه السلام) has stated this hadeeth.

"If one of you drinks water, and says , ‘In the name of Allah,’ then drinks, then stops and say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah,’ He then drinks and says, ‘In the name of Allah’ then stops, and says, ‘All praise belongs to Allah’ then drinks and says, ‘In the name of Allah’ then stops and says, ‘All praise belongs to Allah,’ that water keeps saying tasbeeh for him as long as it is in his belly until it goes out.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad formal-Barqiy from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad al-‘Arzamiy who has said the following:

“Mu‘awiyah appointed Marwan ibn al-Hakam as his agent in al-Madinah and ordered him to pay a certain salary to the young people of Quraysh, which he did.

Ali ibn al-Husayn, (عليه السلام) has said, "I went to him and he asked,

‘What is your name?’

I replied, ‘It is Ali ibn al-Husayn.’

He then asked, ‘What is the name of your brother?’

I replied, ‘It is Ali.’

He said, ‘Ali and Ali. Is it that your father does not want to leave any of his children without naming them all Ali?’ He paid me a certain amount. I returned to my father and informed him of what had happened.

He [the Imam] said, ‘Woe is upon the son of al-Zarqa’, the leather-treating man. Even if one hundred sons will be born to me I will not give anyone of them any other name except Ali.’”

He said: Abul Hasan Ahmad Ibn Mohammad Ibn al-Hasan Ibn al-Walid reported to me from his father, from Sa’d Ibn Abdillah, from Ahmad Ibn Mohammad Ibn Isa, from Bakr Ibn Swaleh, from al-Hasan Ibn Ali, from Abdullah Ibn Ibrahim, who reported from al-Husayn Ibn Zaid, from Jafar Ibn Mohammad, reporting from his father and his grandfather, peace be upon them, that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

"The night I was taken to the heavens, I ended up at Sidratul Muntaha, I heard:

"O Mohammad, counsel [your people] good about Ali, for he is Sayyed al-Muslimeen (the master of the Muslims), and Imam al-Muttaqeen (leader of the people of Taqwa), and Qaed al-Ghurr al-Muhajjaleen (leader of the hopping horses with white spots on their foreheads [leading to the Paradise]), on the Day of Resurrection."

Abd al-Wahid Ibn Mohammad Ibn Abdoos al-Neesaboori al-Attar (عليه السلام) said in Neesaboor, year 352 AH, that Ali Ibn Mohammad Ibn Qotaybah al-Neesaboori said that I heard al-Fadl Ibn Shazan saying when I was present,

"A dualist asked Abul Hasan Ali Ibn Musa al-Reda (عليه السلام):

“I say: Verily, there are two producers of the Universe. Then what is the proof that He is One?”

Consequently, he (عليه السلام) replied, “You statement: “Verily, He is two” is proof that He is One, because you have not claimed the second except after ascertaining the One. Therefore, One is agreed upon, and more than one is disagreed."

Abdul Wahid Ibn Abdullah Ibn Younus narrated from Ahmed Ibn Mohammad Ibn Rabah from Ahmed Ibn Ali al-Himyari from al-Hasan Ibn Ayyoub from Abdul Kareem Ibn Amr from Ahmed Ibn al-Hasan Ibn Abban that Abdullah Ibn Atta’ al-Mekki had asked Abu Abdullah as-Sadeq (عليه السلام) about the conduct of Imam al-Mahdi (عجّل الله تعالى فرجه الشريف) when he would appear. Abu Abdullah as-Sadiq (عليه السلام) said:

“He will act as the Apostle of Allah has acted. He will annul all what has been established before him as the Apostle of Allah has annulled all that has been established in the pre-Islamic age. He will resume Islam anew.”

Abi Ramahallah said: Sa'd Ibn Abdillah narrated to me that Ahmed Ibn Mohammed Ibn Isa narrated to me that: (from al-Husayn Ibn Saeed, from Fadala Ibn Ayyoub, from Aban Ibn Osman, from) Mohammed Ibn Muslim said:

'I heard Aba Abdillah (عليه السلام) say:

"Verily, Allah, the Mighty and High created a creation fro His own Light and a mercy from His Mercy. Hence, they are the Eye through which Allah sees, the Ear through which Allah listens, and the Tongue through which Allah speaks His Will. They are the Guardians of His Revelation which He sends down as a mercy, a warning and a proof. Hence, He wipes out their sins, removes injustice from them, sends down mercy for them, gives life to the deceased from them, kills the living for them, tries His Creation through them, and fulfils the needs of His Creation through them."

I asked, "May I be sacrificed for you! Who are these?”

He said: "The successors [of Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)]."

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said the following:

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a man who eats or drinks with his left hand.

He (the Imam) said, ‘He must not eat with his left hand and must not drink with his left hand or lift up anything with it.’”

'Teach me, please, the principles of beliefs.'

He said, ‘They are: to testify that there is no god but Allah, and that Mohammad is the Apostle of Allah, and whatever he has taught is from Allah, there is prayer five times every day, to pay Zakah, to fast in the month of Ramadan, to perform Hajj of the House [of Allah], to love those who love us [Aimmah from the family of the Apostle of Allah], to disown our enemies and to become part of the group of the truthful ones.'"

Abu Zarr (رضي الله عنه) related:

'I saw the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) strike on the shoulder of Ali Ibn Abi Taleb (عليه السلام) and say:

"O Ali, he who loves us is the true Arab and he who hates us is the infidel. Our shia are the masters, the highborn, the honorable, and the legitimate. Only are our shia and we following the religion of Ibraheem (عليه السلام). The remaining people are all out of it [i.e. the religion of Ibraheem]. Allah and His angels are surely destroying the evil deeds of our shia in the same way as an axe destroys the building."'

Ibrahim b. Marzuq – Abu ‘Amir al-‘Aqadi – Kathir b. Zayd – Muhammad b. ‘Umar b. ‘Ali – his father – ‘Ali:

“Verily, the Prophet, peace be upon him, came to a tree at (Ghadir) Khumm. Then he came out, holding the hand of ‘Ali, and saying: “O mankind! Do you not testify that Allah the Almighty is your Lord?” They said, “Yes, we do.” He said, “Do you not testify that Allah and His Messenger are more entitled to you than yourselves and that Allah the Almighty and His Messenger are your Mawla?” They said, “Yes, we do”. He said, “So, whosoever Allah and His Messenger are his Mawla, verily this one – or ‘Ali – is his mawla. I have left behind over you that which if you hold fast to it you will never go astray: the Book of Allah – one end of which is in your hands – and my Ahl al-Bayt.”
