Camel Hump

Dear sisters, is camel hump haram? Some sisters say yes, some no. Sometimes i see so huge humps and i dont think its nice. Personally i dont wear it but i have one. Is it haram?

it doesnt has to be halal or haraam  fact is it attracts more attention.

There is a hadith in Sunni books which prohibit this type of "camel-hump" or "Beehive" hijab. I was not able to find a specific reference to this in our Shee`ah hadith books. Wallaahu A`lim.

 

 

حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ صِنْفَانِ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ لَمْ أَرَهُمَا قَوْمٌ مَعَهُمْ سِيَاطٌ كَأَذْنَابِ الْبَقَرِ يَضْرِبُونَ بِهَا النَّاسَ وَنِسَاءٌ كَاسِيَاتٌ عَارِيَاتٌ مُمِيلاَتٌ مَائِلاَتٌ رُءُوسُهُنَّ كَأَسْنِمَةِ الْبُخْتِ الْمَائِلَةِ لاَ يَدْخُلْنَ الْجَنَّةَ وَلاَ يَجِدْنَ رِيحَهَا وَإِنَّ رِيحَهَا لَيُوجَدُ مِنْ مَسِيرَةِ كَذَا وَكَذَا ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Abu Hurayrah said, the Messenger of Allah  (pbuh) said: 'Two are from the people of Fire whom I did not see. A people of them who had whips like the tails of cow, and they were beating the people with it. And women who are dressed, but appear naked, who are inclined deviant and turn others towards deviance, their heads are like humps of al-Bukht (a type of camel) leaning (on one side). They will not enter Jannah, and they will not be able to smell it (Jannah), while its smell (smell of Jannah) will be able to be (smelt) from such and such distance'

Meaning of the phrase رُءُوسُهُنَّ كَأَسْنِمَةِ الْبُخْتِ الْمَائِلَةِ (Their heads like the humps of al-Bukht leanining (to one side):

 

 

 

وقوله صلى الله عليه وسلم : ( رؤوسهن كأسنمة البخت المائلة ) ، قال بعض أهل العلم : إنهن يعظمن الرءوس بما يجعلن عليها من شعر ولفائف وغير ذلك ، حتى تكون مثل أسنمة البخت المائلة ، والبخت نوع من الإبل لها سنامان ، بينهما شيء من الانخفاض والميلان ، هذا مائل إلى جهة وهذا مائل إلى جهة ، فهؤلاء النسوة لما عظمن رءوسهن وكبرن رءوسهن بما جعلن عليها أشبهن هذه الأسنمة .

And his  (pbuh) saying, "their heads are like the humps of al-Bukht (Camel), on one side,” Some of the people of knowledge have said: 'That they make their head look big by what they make upon it (their head) from hair, scarves and other than that. Until it is like the humps of al-Bukht (Camel) on one side. al-Bukht is a type of came which has two humps, between it (the humps) is a decline (i.e. dip), this (hump) leans to a direction and this (other hump) leans to (another) direction). So when these women for what they make their heads look big and magnify their heads by what they make upon it they resemble these humps

قوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: رُءُوسُهُنَّ كَأَسْنِمَةِ الْبُخْتِ الْمَائِلَةِ ـ بأنهن يعظمن رءوسهن بالخمر ـ جمع خمار ـ والعمائم أو بصلة الشعور حتى تشبه أسنمة البخت في ارتفاعها، قال الحميدي في تفسير غريب ما في الصحيحين: يعظمن رؤسهن بالخمر والعمائم أو وصلة الشعور حتى تشبه أسنمة البخت في ارتفاعها. اهـ.

His  (pbuh) saying: 'Their heads like the humps of the Bukht Camel leaning (on one side)". That they magnify their heads with their khimaar - bringing the khimaar (together) - and the turban or with combining their hair until it resembles the humps of al-Bukht (camels) in it elevatedness. al-Humaydi said in Tafseer Ghareeb Maa Fee al-Sahihyan: 'magnify their heads with the khimaar, the turbans or combining their hair until it resembles the hump of al-Bukht (camel) in its elevatedness"

 

وقال المناوي: يجعلن على رءوسهن ما يكبرها ويعظمها من الخرق والعصائب والخمر حتى تصير تشبه أسنمة الإبل.

al-Manawi said: 'It is to make on their heads what its increased and magnified from rags or bandages and khimaar until it resembles the camel's hump

 

قال ابن العربي: وهذا كناية عن تكبير رأسها بالخرق حتى يظن الرائي أنه كله شعر. انتهى.

Ibn `Arabi said: 'And meaning is from increasing the head with rangs until it looks like all its hair (i.e. add scarves to make it seem as if the lady has a lot of hair)

 

وقال النووي: وَمَعْنَى: رُءُوسهنَّ كَأَسْنِمَةِ الْبُخْت ـ أَنْ يُكَبِّرْنَهَا وَيُعَظِّمْنَهَا بِلَفِّ عِمَامَة أَوْ عِصَابَة أَوْ نَحْوهمَا

al-Nawawi said: And the meaning of "Their heads like the humps of al-Bukht (camels)" That their increase and magnify by wrapping turbans or rags or other than it (i.e. wrapping parts of the scarves to make the hump).

We do, shia, have a narration refers to this in Al-Kafi Book. Volume 5.

 

I  asked an alim about this narration that I read and here is his answer: ( It is in an Arabic though, sorry, my English is not excellent to translate it into English, insha Allah you will find someone who can translate it.

 

 

المسألة: 

 

عن أبي عبد الله ، عن أبيه ، عن آبائه عليهم السلام قال : قال رسول الله (ص) : لا يحل لامرأة إذا هي حاضت أن تتخذ قصة ولا جمة.

ما المقصود بالقصة والجمة؟: 

 

الجواب (أجاب عنها: سماحة الشيخ محمد صنقور:

 

وردت هذه الرواية في كتاب الكافي للكليني ورواها الشيخ الصدوق بسندٍ معتبر عن السكوني عن أبي عبد الله (ع) قال: قال رسول الله (ص) : "لا يحل لامرأة حاضت أن تتخذ قصة ولا جمة"⁽¹⁾.

 

والمراد من القُصَّة بضمِّ القاف هو شعر الناصية -أي مقدَّم شعر الرأس- يتمُّ ابرازه بعد قصِّ شيءٍ من الشعر النابت حول الناصية فيبرز شعر الناصية بعد تسويته ويقع شيءٌ منه على الجبهة فيكون ذلك من وسائل الزينة للمرأة.

 

والمراد من الجُمَّة بضمِّ الجميم هو جمع الشعر المتدلي على المنكبين في أعلى الرأس بحيث يكون بارزاً من وراء القماش الذي تضعه المرأة على رأسها تفعل ذلك للزينة.

 

وعليه فمعنى الرواية هو انَّ المرأة إذا حاضت -أي إذا بلغت مبلغ النساء- فعليها أن تترك الإظهار للقصة والجمَّة أمام الناظر الأجنبي، لأنَّه من الزينة، ففعل ذلك وإنْ لم يكن منهيَّاً عنه في ظرف الصبى وقبل البلوغ ولكنَّه منهيٌّ عنه بعد البلوغ إلا انَّ النهي ليس على اطلاقه فللمرأة أن تتزيَّن بذلك في بيتها أو أمام زوجها، نعم هي منهية عن فعل القصة حين يكون ذلك في معرض النظر من قِبل الناظر الأجنبي.

 

وقد ورد النهي عن ذلك في روايات أخرى كمعتبرة السكوني، عن أبي عبد الله (ع) قال:"إن أمير المؤمنين (ع) نهى عن القنازع والقصص ونقش الخضاب على الراحة"⁽²⁾ وقال: "إنما هلكت نساء بني إسرائيل من قبل القصص ونقش الخضاب"⁽³⁾.

 

ورواية الجعفريات عن علي (ع)، ان رسول الله (ص) قال: "ليس لامرأة حاضت ان تتخذ قصة ولا جمة"⁽⁴⁾.

 

فالمراد من النهي في هذه الروايات هو اظهار التزيُّن بمثل القصَّة والجمَّة أمام الناظر الأجنبي.

I try to put my hair back in a way that scarf lies flat, but for some sisters they may tie their hair in this manner to better hold their hair. It really depends on how else she may be dressed and perhaps, the intention

Yeah some people say it's haraam, but to me, it all depends on intentions.

 

I basically just tie my hair back & put those flower clips to secure it, or else my hair will always open half way when i'm out. But yea i just get that middle size "hump", not really huge actually, & my intention isn't really to attract, but it makes my scarf stay in place, & i can put my scarf on perfectly, without having it look too messy, that's why.

TBH when i see the bigger sized camel humps, i think they attract more attention, so it depends on the occasion, are you wearing it in public/uni? or a party (ladies only)?

 

Personally, i don't even wear one. i like to wear my bun low.. that way less eyes on you.. 

at the end of the day, who are you trying to impress?
