Bismillah.

Salaam.

Firstly I have to admit that I am not able to measure my love and feelings towards his majesty (p), but to show some, I only mention a verse of the Holy Qur’an in which Allah (s) describes the most merciful creature of His;

“There has certainly come to you an apostle from among yourselves. Grievous to him is your distress; he is full of concern for you, and most kind and merciful to the faithful.” (9:128)

Therefore, such a lovely personality could not be hated.

With Duas.

بِسْم الله الرحمن الرحيم

One of the reasons that I love the prophetص is because Allah سبحانه وتعالى loves him and honoured him, and I love dearly whom Allah سبحانه وتعالى loves and honours. If Allah سبحانه وتعالى honours and loves one of his close servants more than all of humanity and jinn combined, it becomes natural that one becomes inclined to such personality, loves him for the sake of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and acts on his ways to follow his path. It is not easy seeing the bigger picture of what I'm trying to say here without looking into the biography of Muhammad ص to actually see how Allah سبحانه وتعالى gave him honour and elevated his rank. Furthermore, This is just one of the few examples among many many many many...to show how Allahسبانه وتعالى loves the prophet ص and as result, why I love him based on that.

Moreover, the prophet ص was named Muhammad by his father and grandfather. Muhammad in Arabic literally means praiseworthy, or one who is praised. This is a unique name since it implies that such person with a given name is described as one who his people in the future will praise, honour and elevate his status more than they would do for an average and ordinary person. There has not been a single human being in the history of mankind before Muhammedص, not in Arabia nor any where around the world who has been given such a unique name, that is, where it implies that he will be praised by his people. In fact, the Arabs of Mecca found the name to be strange and when they asked his father what it meant, it is reported through various narrations that his father Abdullah ر responded by saying; "...I named him Muhammed(the praised one) so the people on earth and in the heavens will always praise him" . In fact, there has not been a person ever who was given such a noble name, and at the same time was praised by his people just the same way as Muhammedص was named and praised by his people. Had Allah سبحانه وتعالى not loved Muhammed ص, then instead of allowing his creation to honour and praise him as his name implied from his birth, he would instead have humiliated him and degraded his status in front of them, even if he was still named Muhammed(Na'uthobillah). However, we know for a fact that from the day he was born and his father named him Muhammed, he was praised by the people of his time, the later generations, all up until now where a quarter of the world's population remember and praise him. Furthermore, as his lovers exponentially continue to grow as they did for the past 1400 years, they will praise him eternally on earth and on the heavens as promised by Allah سبحانه وتعالى.

Another example can be seen after pondering on the meaning of Surat Al-Kawather and examining the historical context that it was revealed it. We read the following:

بِسْم الله الرحمن الرحيم

إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ. فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ. إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الأَبْتَرُ

"Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], al-Kawthar. So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone]. Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off(Al-Abtar)."

One must examine the Tafsir of this noble Surat in order to get a grasp of it's meaning and what Allah سبحانه وتعالى is implying in this context, especially with understanding what the words Al-Kawther and Al-Abtar are implying here as well. Moreover, based on the Tafasir from Imami and non-Imami schools, this Surat is a Mecci Surat, that is; it was revealed to the prophet ص while he lived in Mecca with the Mushrikeen before his migration to Yathrib(which was then named Al-Madina Al-Munawarah(the enlightened city) by the locals when they first greeted the prophet ص). As historically reported, this was during a period during the prophet's life when he experienced the staunchest opposition from the Quraysh of Mecca and was when the Muslims were a minority among the Mushrikeen and faced heavy oppression and opposition from them. On top of all this pressure put on the prophet ص, his sons all died at an early age due to sickness. His enemies took an advantage of this when they witnessed that Muhammad's ص sons died and used that part of their propaganda campaign against the prophet ص by claiming that he will be "Al-Abtar". That is, Al-Abtar linguistically in Arabic means a person who's line of decendents is cutoff, mainly because he has no sons to continue the line of his family. SHAKIR has translated Al-Abtar to mean "without posterity", which is similar in meaning to one who's lineage is cutoff. The Kuffar of Mecca used to propagate that since Muhammed ص had no more sons, he will then have no one to inherit his call to Islam, and as a result, when time passes and future generations come, people will eventually forget him and forget the teachings he was once calling for. This was part of a psychological warfare used against the prophet ص to lower his motivation and self esteem, especially after watching his sons die one after the other at an early age. Not until Allah سبحانه وتعالى revealed to him Surat Al-Kawther and ensured him that glad tidings and victory will come to him in the future, regardless of what his enemies say of him. Moreover, Allah سبانه وتعالى starts off by saying to the prophetص in the first Ayah of the Surah that he has given him "Al-Kawthar". Linguistically, Al-Kawther means a flowing river and in this context of the Ayah, the flowing river metaphorically resembles a flowing line of his descendants. In other words, Allahسبحانه وتعالى is confirming to the prophet that he will not be Al-Abtar as his enemies are claiming, and that he gifted him with a golden line of decendents that resembles a continuous flowing river, or eloquently rephrased as Al-Kawther(hence the name used in the Surat). One thing to derive from this is that the essence of Al-Kawther that Allah سحبناه وتعالى has granted to the prophet ص is no doubt Sayeda Fatima Al-Zahra ع, since it is only through her and Imam 'Ali ع that the prophet's ص line of descendants have survived until this day. That is , Allah سبحانه وتعالى has gifted the prophet with Fatima ع so that she, through Imam Ali ع can create a continuous flowing river(Al-Kawther) of his descendants which will not only prevent him from being Al-Abtar(without posterity) but also so that they pass down and preserve his teachings for the later generations to have as a source of guidance. This can be seen where the A'immah ع inherited his Sunnah and preserved it so that the future generations like us can refer to.

At the same time, Allah سبحانه وتعالى not only grants him a line of descendants that will inherit his call to Islam, preserve it's teachings, his name and biography, but He سبحانه وتعالى also ensures him that his enemies are indeed the ones who are Al-Abtar and not him as they claim. That is, their line of descendants will be the ones that are cut off and they are the ones who will be forgotten by the future generations. This is in fact a reality now, considering that the prophet's ص descendants have certainly spread across the world and their numbers continue to grow, all while they preserve his name, history and praise him. At the same time, his enemies that opposed him and launched propaganda campaigns against him in Mecca; those that claimed that he is Al-Abtar and will be forgotten, are indeed themselves who are the forgotten ones and they have no continuous line of descendants who passed down their names and preserved their fame and history, just as the descendants of Muhammed have passed down his name and preserved his fame and history. They; the enemies of the prophetص are the real losers at the end and they are the ones who's fame has been lost, only to be found in limited texts buried under old history books that only some people check and read about them. All while the majority do not hear about them and the campaigns they once worked hard on to launch against Muhammad ص , while they hear about Muhammedص and his teachings almost everywhere around the world today.

Likewise for those who in our time openly slander the honour of our prophetص and spend a large amount of money on their hopeless propaganda campaigns aimed against him ص. They and their propagandas after hundreds of years will also be forgotten by the future generations just as the current generations have forgotten about his enemies and their propaganda that was aimed to weaken him during his time. And this is surely from the promise of Allah سبحانه وتعالى as he states in Surat Al-Kawther and a conformity of His love towards the prophet ص.

(Shakir)

"Surely Allah and His angels bless the Prophet; O you who believe! call for (Divine) blessings on him and salute him with a (becoming) salutation."[Al-Ahzab-56]

Salam,

I love him (PBUH) because I know he loves me MORE than I can ever imagine. He accepted a life of suffering and a life of suffering for his progeny just so that Allah (SWT)'s name would be mentioned on the earth.

Btw, thanks for starting this thread bro!

All hadiths show Kawthar to be a river in paradise. None of them state it's Fatima [sa].

السلام عليكم brother

I am aware and I don't reject the numerous narrations discussing the Hawdth. What I meant is that when considering the entire context of the Surat along with it's historical narrative, it's meaning in essence where Allah س gave glad tidings to the prophet ص by informing him that he will not be Al-Abtar while his enemies will is confirmed only through the birth of Fatima ع, since she was the only one who passed down his lineage through her sons ع. This is more for a historical fact seen to confirm Allah'sس promise in the Surat, irrelevant of whether there is any explicit Nass from prophetص where he foretold it or not. You can think of it like those recently discovered scientific miracles in the Quran(depending on how much you believe in them).

I've seen translations of abtar to mean cut off and interpretations to mean to cut off from the blessings of Allah.  I think in context of keeping Salah and sacrifice, and the river in paradise, it most likely refers to being cut off from the connection to God and the higher blessings and the light.

I've seen translations of abtar to mean cut off and interpretations to mean to cut off from the blessings of Allah. I think in context of keeping Salah and sacrifice, and the river in paradise, it most likely refers to being cut off from the connection to God and the higher blessings and the light.

Linguistically that's correct. Abtar can mean someone being cut off from good or any Khayr, but it can also mean that his lineage is cutoff, hence why SHAKIR translated it to mean without posterity. In other words, depending on the context it's being used, it can mean more than one thing. This is where I believe that the importance of the historical context that the Ayah was revealed in must be considered. That is, most sources(Imami and non-Imami) that I have encountered up until now affirm(some Sunni sources do differ) that in the context of this Ayah, al-Abtar specifically means without posterity. This is considering the numerous reports that portray the historical narrative on the Ayah where the leaders of Quraysh in Mecca have taunted the prophet ص of being Abtar after all his sons passed away, as explained in details earlier. With that said, when considering from a historical viewpoint that most sources do affirm that Al-Abtar's meaning reflects on the events that took place in Mecca where the Kuffar taunted the prophetص for being childless after his sons passed away, based on that I think it's hard to easily dismiss this meaning of it for something else that is supported by less sources.

You can read more here: http://www.al-shia.org/html/ara/others/?mod=maqalat&id=269

Here is an interesting non-Imami view on the meaning of Al-Abtar which reflects on the stated above.

"O Prophet, not you but your enemies are abtar." This was not merely a "reprisal", but a prophecy out of the most important prophecies of the Qur'an, which literally proved true. when it was made, the people regarded the Holy Prophet as abtar, and no one could imagine how the big chiefs of the Quraish would become abtar, who were famous not only in Makkah but throughout Arabia, who were successful in life, rich in worldly wealth and children, who had their associates and helpers everywhere in the country, who enjoyed intimate relations with all the Arabian tribes, being monopolists in trade and managers of Hajj. But not long afterwards the conditions altogether changed. There was a time when on the occasion of the Battle of the Trench (A.H. 5) the Quraish had invaded Madinah with the help of many Arabian and Jewish tribes, and the Holy Prophet being besieged had to resist the enemy by digging a trench around the city. After only three years, in A.H. 8, when he attacked Makkah, the Quraish had no helper and they had to surrender helplessly. After this within a year or so the whole Arabia came under his control, deputations of tribes from all over the country began to visit him to take the oaths of allegiance and his enemies were left utterly helpless and resourceless. Then they were so lost to posterity that even if their children survived, none of them today knows that he is a descendant of Abu Jahl, Abu Lahab, As bin Wail, or `Uqbah bin Abi Mu`ait, the enemies of Islam, and even if he knows it, he is not prepared to claim that his ancestors were those people. On the contrary, blessings are being invoked on the children of the Holy Prophet (upon whom be peace) throughout the world; millions and millions of Muslims take pride in bearing relationship to him; hundreds of thousands of people regard it as a mark of honor and prestige to have descended not only from him but from his family and even the families of his Companions. Thus, some one is a Sayyid, another an 'Alavi, and `Abbasi, a Hashmi, a Siddiqi, a Faruqi, an `Uthmani, a Zubairi, or an Ansari, but no one is an Abu Jahli or Abu Lahabi. History has proved that not the Holy Prophet Muhammad (upon whom be Allah's peace and blessings) but his enemies were, and are, abtar. "
