Umar's Letter To Muawiya

Umar b. Khattab wrote a letter to Muaiyah l.a., the contents of which were as follows:  

 

‘I went to the house of Ali, after having decided with others to bring him out of the house. Fatima came out and I told her, ‘Tell Ali to come out and swear the oath of allegiance to Abu Bakr for all Muslims have done so.’

 

Fatima replied that Ali was busy in arranging the Quran.

 

I said, ’Keep this talk aside, tell Ali to come out or else we will forcefully enter the house and bring him out!’

 

At that moment, Fatima came and stood with her back towards the door and said, ‘O misled liars! What do you say and what do you want from us?’

 

I addressed her and she said, ‘What do you want O Umar?’

 

I replied, ‘Why has your cousin sent you here to reply while he remains seated behind veils?’

Fatima said, ‘Your rebellion has brought me out O Umar and I have ended my proof upon you, and every misled is erroneous.’

 

I said, ‘Keep these vain and womanish words aside and tell Ali to come out of the house.’

She replied, ‘You are not worthy of love and generosity. Do you make us fear the ‘Party of the Devil’ O Umar? Verily the Party of the Devil are the losers!’ (Surah Mujadilah (58): 19)

Hearing this I said, ‘If Ali does not come out of the house, I will bring fuel and kindle a fire and burn down the house along with its dwellers or I will take Ali to the Masjid for (the oath of) allegiance.’

 

Then I took the whip (of Qunfudh) and struck Fatima with it and told Khalid b. Walid, ‘Bring firewood’, then again I told her, ‘I will burn down the house!’

Fatima said, ‘O enemy of Allah and enemy of the Prophet of Allah s.a.w.a. and the enemy of the Commander of the Faithful!’

 

 

VISIT OPPRESSIONS UPON JANABE ZAHRA BLOGSPOT

 

Two hands came out from behind the door to stop me from entering the house, however I pushed back the hands and then pushed the door with force, while striking at her hands with the whip, so that she would let go of the door. She wailed and wept due to the intense pain of the whip and her weeping was such a heart-rendering scream that it was as if my heart was going to melt and I almost retreated. Suddenly, I recalled the envy and avarice which I had towards Ali because he was the one that had shed the blood of the eminent Quraish apostates and thus, I kicked at the door, however she had grasped the door such that it would not open. When I kicked at the door, I heard the cry of Fatima and thought that this cry would topple the entire city of Medina.

 

In this state Fatima called out, ‘O Father! O Prophet of Allah! How do they treat your beloved and your daughter! O Fizza! Hasten to my aid, for by Allah, the child in my womb has been killed.’

I presumed that Fatima had stood with her back to the wall due to the extreme pain of labour and at this point, I pushed at the door with intense force and the door opened. When I entered therein, Fatima came and stood in front of me (even though she was in immense pain), but my intense anger had overwhelmed me as if a veil was cast before my eyes. In this state, I slapped her on her face, striking her veil, and she fell down to the ground.’”

 

 

 

 

(This letter is quoted by Allamah Majlisi r.a. in Behaar al-Anwaar in which he says - I have related this letter from Dalail al-Imamah vol. 2 of Emaad al-Deen Tabari r.a. that after the martyrdom of Imam Husain a.s. at Karbala, Abdullah b. Umar along with a group of people from Medina came to Syria. They protested in front of Yazid l.a. regarding his atrocities at Karbala and in this gathering, Yazid l.a. told Abdullah b. Umar, “Do you wish to see the letter of your father”, saying this he brought forth the letter (quoted in the text) of Umar which was kept in a case and then he gave it to Abdullah )

If you missed recent message of Rahbar-e-Moazzam Ayatullah Khamnei .. " It is haraam to say bad or curse muqaddasaat of Ahle Sunnat "  anybody who is provoking disturbance in unity is culprit of Anti-Islam and whether he knows it or not. He is neither Shia nor Sunni he is enemy.

 

We all are aware of history and Insha Allah Allah will do justice.

The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) informed Salmaan, ".... He with whom my daughter is pleased, will benefit from my pleasure, and he with whom, I am pleased will benefit from Allah's Pleasure. And he with whom Fatemah is angry, will incur my wrath and he with whom I am angry will be a target of Allah's Wrath. Most deplorable is the one who tyrannizes Fatemah (s.a.) or her husband Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) or her sons or their Shias" (Ref :Faraaed al-Simtain book 2, p 67 )

سعد بن جناح الكشي، قال: حدثني علي بن محمد بن يزيد القمي عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن الحسين بن سعيد، عن فضالة بن أيوب عن الحسين بن عثمان الرواسي، عن سدير، قال: دخلت على ابي جعفر عليه السلام ومعي سلمة بن كهيل، وأبو المقدام ثابت الحداد، وسالم بن أبي حفصة، وكثير النواء، وجماعة معهم، وعند أبي جعفر عليه السلام أخوه زيد بن علي عليهم السلام فقالوا لابي جعفر عليه السلام نتولي عليا وحسنا وحسينا ونتبرأ من أعداهم ! قال: نعم. قالوا: نتولي ابا بكر وعمر ونتبرأ من اعدائهم ! قال: فالتفت إليهم زيد بن علي قال: لهم اتتبرؤن من فاطمة بترتم أمرنا بتركم الله، فيومئذ سموا البترية

 

al-Kashi narrated: Sad b. Jannāh narrated to me. He said: Alī b. Muhammad b. Yazīd al-Qummī narrated to me from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Īsā from al-Husayn b. Saīd from Fadāla b. Ayyūb from al-Husayn b. Uthmān al-Ruwāsī from Sadīr. He said:


I entered upon Abī Jafar (as) and with me was Salma b. Kuhayl and Abū al-Miqadām al-Haddād and Sālim b. Abī Hafsa and Kathīr al-Nawā and a from with them and with Abī Jafar (as) was his brother Zayd b. Alī. 

 

So they said to Abī Jafar: We hold to wilāya of Ali (as), Hasan (as), and Husayn (as) and dissociate ourselves from their enemies! He (as) said: Yes. They said: We hold to the wilāya of Abī Bakr and Umar and we dissociate ourselves from their enemies! Then Zayd b. Ali turned to them and said to them: Do you dissociate yourselves from Fātima (sa)  ?! You have mutilated our affair! Allah mutilate you! So from that day they were named the "Batriyya" (those of mutilation)

 anyone who is cursed by Allah , The Holy Prophet (sawa) , The Infaliible Imams (as) and Hazrat Fatemah Zahra (sa) her self can never be Muqaddas in the eyes if the shia

"He who is reluctant to curse whomever Allah has cursed, upon him is the curse of Allah."

Imam Jafar Sadiq (as) said:
 

"Whoso ever sits with a person who puts flaws on Us, or praises the one who lowers Us, or continues relation with the one who has cut relations with Us, or cuts relation with the one who has relation with Us, or befriends Our enemies, or has enmity with Our friends then verily he has denied (done Kufr) the one (Allah) who has reveled the Seven-repeated verses (Al-Hamd) and the Holy Quran.

I am not a hadith guy but why would Omer, buy the skin, write on the skin, what an evil act he did, and why would he write a transcript to Muawiya?

 

Sorry but this sounds ridiculous, Omer would write this letter and send a messenger to deliver it across the middle east for what? so that Muawiya can read about the daily life of Omer and what Omer said and what Fatima replied? This letter has no meaning or purpose to it, why would Omer send such a letter?

 

And please don't say he sent the letter so he could have a LOL with Muawiya.

I remember a hadis saying that Umar amaze to Mu'awiya that Muawiya is just like a king or something.

We curse in the safety of our homes and our brothers are being blown up in the middle east or asia or persecuted in south east asia , or globally.

Ask your marja if it is allowed of not. I am not Marja, i have finished my Hujjat inform the OP what is fatwa of Rahbar-e-Moazzam if he respect him he will follow, if he not he will ignore. Everyone will give reply to Allah in end of days why and why not ... i done my work.

Abu al-Hasan Muhammad ibn Harun ibn Musa al-Tal`akbari said: my father narrated to us: Abu `Ali Muhammad ibn Hamam said: Ja`far ibn Muhammad ibn Malik al-Fazari al-Kufi narrated to us: `Abd al-Rahman ibn Sinan al-Sayrafi narrated to me, from Ja`far ibn `Ali al-Hawar, from al-Hasan ibn Muskan, from al-Mufadhdhal ibn `Umar al-Ju`fi, from Jabir al-Ju`fi, from Sa`eed ibn al-Maseeb.

 

This narration is weak for various reasons.

 

1) Muhammad ibn Harun ibn Musa is majhool.

 

2) Ja`far ibn Muhammad ibn Malik has been heavily weakened by al-Najashi and Ibn al-Qhadai'ri, so he's weak. Yes, al-Tusi did give him tawthiq but the most common opinion is that Ja`far ibn Muhammad ibn Malik is weak.

 

3) `Abd al-Rahman ibn Sinan is majhool.

 

4) Ja`far ibn `Ali al-Hawar is majhool.

 

5) There is a difference in view regarding al-Mufadhdhal and that is a topic in itself. However, even if we accept him as reliable, the chain is weak because of the previous reasons.

A contributor mentioned that there exists another version of the tradition of "The City of Knowledge” where the Prophet states: "I am the city of knowledge and ‘Ali is its gate, and Abu Bakr is its foundation, Umar its walls and Uthman its roof."

well its a classic example of bringing the 2 caliphs to the same level as that of yazid or even surpassing him, wasnt this a big objective of imami shiaism ? afterall most people hated uthman and the ummayyads in Ali's camp however such visceral hatred of abubakr/umar is probably unique to imami shias

Please do not misunderstand my application of common sense, the raid of Omer on Ali's house has some authentic hadith, this hadith is not one of them, or at least I think so.
