Is Iran's 'Dark Knight' supporting the nuclear talks?

Shadowy Man, Dark Knight, Living Martyr and Haj Qasem are just a few of the monikers of Gen. Qasem Soleimani — Iran's top military man in the Middle East and commander of the Quds Force. Though Soleimani has become famous these days in the regional and world media due to his war against the Islamic State (IS), he was previously relatively unknown in the region — only familiar to those influential and knowledgeable people in the region. These days, he mostly spends his time in Iraq. Iranian officials have confirmed that Soleimani is now advising the Iraqi army and volunteer Shiite troops on fighting IS.

The Associated Press reports that Soleimani doesn't wear a flak jacket on the battlefield and that he has restored Iraqi sovereignty to several major cities. Nazem Dabbagh, the parliamentary representative of Iran's Kurdistan region, told an Iranian magazine that Soleimani doesn't stay within the walls of the palace or luxury hotels. He doesn't merely sit and give orders; he is always present on the battlefield.

According to the BBC, Iran and America have divided operations in Iraq: Tehran fights on the ground, and America fights in the sky. Soleimani’s appearances alongside Badr and peshmerga troops in Iraq is confirmation of Iran’s presence in Iraq, which, according to Iranian military officials, is limited to advice and planning strategies.

Soleimani’s role has been so prominent that, according to Iran’s former ambassador to the United Nations, Sadeq Kharrazi, US Secretary of State John Kerry has called for a meeting with him, and President Barrack Obama has addressed him as a "respectable enemy." Some Iranian officials also believe that his presence in Iraq can influence the nuclear talks.

Remember that pre 2003 the media were full of stories about how 'good' the Iraqi Republican Guard were. It was just to soften up the Western audience for a possibly messy war.

I'd say the article presents him as Public Enemy No.1

Bismehe Ta3ala,

David, have you seen war? All Iran has done is defend itself. You can't stand it that Iran is getting stronger by the day. The Zionist entity hasn't dared to bomb them, because they know for a fact that will be the end of the Zionist state. I know you are on this website to understand your enemy, that's fine but take this message back with you to your masters, you CAN NOT defeat the sons of Ali ibn abi Taleb.

Understand us well we are not Shias of Bush, you are dealing with a nation of martyrs alive and dead. Even those Iranians who don't have an ounce of religion in them, when they see an occupying force knocking on there door, they will be the first ones on the front lines because no person of honor allows occupiers to invade them.

Bill Maher Gets Owned by Glenn Greenwald Over Ben…: http://youtu.be/MB-itn_LJuM

I enjoy watching Mr. Greenwald, a man who understands why people react the way they do. Please be informed. From the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout says," Atticus was right. One time he said you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them." Sure the book was about the racial inequality during the Great Depression but this quote reminds me of how Greenwald takes the time and effort to see the point of view from the other side and not Mahr's version as us vs. them.

Through using very strategic military planning, and smart tactics, as well as influencing his soldiers with stories of the Imams (as), he is able to gain control of the middle east, and influence the Middle east with Shia power. Seems the author of this article agrees with you.

"Iran's Military Mastermind is Leader of Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen"

And, I agree with the authors view, the sectarian nature of the conflict and sectarian violence in the region is only going to get worse.

All the Best,

Iran’s Major General Soleimani headed Russian pilot rescue team: Syrian officer

The pilot of Russian Su-24 fighter jet recently downed by Turkey was saved during a joint rescue operation in Syria supervised by a senior Iranian commander, a Syrian officer says.

Commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Qassem Soleimani assembled a rescue team made up of 18 Syrian special forces members and six Hezbollah fighters for the operation, a Saturday report by the Sputnik news agency cited a Syrian officer as saying.

The unnamed Syrian officer said the team was tasked with rescuing the pilot while air and intelligence support was being provided by Russian forces.

According to a report published by the Fars News Agency, Russian fighter jets carried out airstrikes on the region to push militants away, which permitted the team to gain further access into the terrorist-held territory.

Apart from rescuing the pilot, the team also eliminated all terrorists active in the region, before returning safely with all members to their base of operations.

On Tuesday, Turkish Air Force shot down the Russian jet, accusing it of having violated Turkish airspace, an allegation Moscow has denied. One of the pilots was killed by militants in Syria after ejecting from the jet and the other was rescued.

Subsequently, the IRGC strongly dismissed rumors spread by Israeli media outlets that Soleimani had been killed.

“Often, the Israelis write down their dreams in the form of news and spread them through their media in the cyberspace,” the head of the IRGC’s Public Relations Office, Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif said. “The fake news about Major General Qassem Soleimani’s martyrdom is of this sort.”

I should know better than to make a prediction about the Middle East. But here I am, making a prediction. The next president of Iran will be Qasem Soleimani, commander of the overseas arm of the hardline Revolutionary Guard and master of Tehran’s influence across the region. And here’s more: if he’s not president in two years, he will be more powerful still — as the kingmaker deciding on the next supreme leader, the highest position in the Islamic republic.

IRGC foils Arab-Israeli plot to assassinate General Soleimani

The intelligence unit of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has thwarted an Arab-Israeli plot to assassinate Major General Qassem Soleimani, a globally famous defense strategist who played a key role in the counter-terrorism operations that led to the collapse of the Daesh terror group in Iraq and Syria.

Hossein Taeb, the head of the IRGC’s intelligence unit, said on Thursday that plot — hatched by Hebrew-Arab intelligence services — would see a team of terrorist recruits enter Iran to pave the way for a bomb attack targeting Soleimani, who commands the IRGC’s Quds Force, in the country’s southeastern province of Kerman.

According to Taeb, the terrorists were supposed to buy a place next to a Husseiniyah (religious hall) belonging to General Soleimani’s late father, plant 350-500 kilograms of explosives beneath the place, and blow up the site during Tasu’a and Ashura mourning processions marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)), the third Shia Imam, on September 8-9.

The plotters were, however, under watch since they transferred the terrorist cell’s members to a neighboring state for high-cost training programs before carrying out the terror plot, the IRGC official said.

Following a “precious and smart intelligence operation,” the IRGC’s intelligence unit “succeeded in arresting the three-member team,” he said, adding that the “Hebrew-Arab services” had spent several years to draw up the plot for such crime.

He also pointed out that members of the team had confessed after their arrests that they had wanted “something big” to disrupt the internal order and public opinion.

Earlier this week, the senior IRGC commander gave an interview to the website of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, during which he gave an insight to his key role during Israel’s 33-War on Lebanon in 2006.

In November 2018, The New York Times revealed a March 2017 meeting in Riyadh to assassinate Iranian officials, namely General Soleimani.

Iran to prosecute terrorists who attempted to assassinate General Soleimani

Iran is prosecuting captured terrorists who were plotting to assassinate the country’s powerful military commander Qasem Soleimani.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran is prosecuting captured terrorists who were plotting to assassinate the country’s powerful military commander Qasem Soleimani.

“Members of a team that were planning to assassinate Major General Soleimani are being prosecuted and accused of taking part in actions against the country’s internal and external security, waging Ḥirābah and helping the intelligence agencies of foreign and adversary countries,” said Kerman Province’s General Prosecutor Dadkhoda Salari on Tuesday.

He added that all the individuals involved in the plot were hit in several different points and captured “in less than 10 hours”.

Salari mentioned that it was a very well-planned attempt in which the terrorists were fully trained and equipped.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced several weeks ago that they had arrested several terrorists, defusing a plot to assassinate Major General Soleimani.

Soleimani has been the architect of liberating Iraq and Syria from Daesh and other terrorists.

The IRGC’s intel unit was observing closely the team since six months ago, according to the local official.

He noted that they planned to "launch a war between Shia and the Sunnis".

Salari stressed that the terrorists were also seeking to destroy the “axis of resistance in the Muslim world”.
