Post your favourite Nohas.

I personally am a fan of Urdu Nohas. Probably have to do with me listening to them during my childhood years.

My favourite classic ones:

Here's a new Nauha from Nadeem Sarwar

I like the na3i. It is the former of Arabic noha in which the rreciter perform solely, no chest beating , no chorus . Just him.

Ya Raye7 tezour 7sain.

O who is going to visit Hussain, take my heart to visit him with you.

I want you to kiss his doorstep and mention my name while you are there.

In remembrance of AL Qasim bin AL Hassan

The lyrics are in Iraqi dialect

Rough translation of the first few lines :

Mother remember me whenever there is a youth wedding

From marriage I was forbidden and my Henna was the blood of my wounds

The candle of my youth, they turned it off

My Henna is my blood and my shroud was me rolling on sand.

Ali Alakbar was beloved son to imam Hussain. He looked like the prophet in his shape and his attitude that when sahaba and others wished to see prophet again they would look at Ali Alakbar .

When he was killed, him mother was in karbala. The horse instead of carrying him from the battle field back to his father camp, it took him to the enemy camp and they cut his body to pieces. The story says that imam Hussain raided on the enemy camp to restore his son body, he threw himself upon him, back is bended like a 70 years old man, when he carried him back to his camp, his legs were bending. The story says that the body was too torn that when you hold one part the other parts will fell from your hold.

This poem is on behalf of imam Hussain while carrying his son body, calling the women in camp to come and help him carry it.

Again, Iraqi dialect

Oh people of the tents, Ali came to you, come to greet him and see his funeral, on my chest is carried.

@SlaveofAllah14, didn't know you understand Urdu. But the ones you posted are my favourites too, esp Nadeem Sarwar whom I have been listening since childhood.

By the way your last noha has been taken down due to copyright claims, or so it says when I click the link.

Anyway, here's one of Nadeem Sarwar I posted elsewhere but re-posting here.

And this one is heart-warming.

Lanat on pemra for banning youtube.

The classic Nohas were, "Hussain Zindabad Hussain Zindabad", By Nadeem Sarwar and "Ya zehra, Ya zehra", By Irfan Haider.

The new one was Nadeem Sarwar's which is removed now due to copy right reasons.

Thanks for the Nohas.

Yes, I can understand Urdu somewhat, but as years go by, It gets worse lol, all due to lack of practice.

Here's another Nauha that literally shakes one's soul.

Wish these ones can be translated.

The Noha basically illustrates the dichotomous identity of Hussain (as) in contrast to Yazid (la), from Imam Hussain's words.

The main line speaks of Hussain saying, "A person like me will never pay allegiance to a person like you".

Anyone who knows Urdu, what does he mean by, 'Azali', in "Tho Yazidi azali hai".

Like in other languages 'azali' means eternal, perpetual. 'Yazid-e Azali' does not make any syntactic sense. It is inserted just to balance it with 'Hussain ibn-e Ali.'

"Tu Yazid-e azali hai...mein Hussain ibn-e- Ali hoon"

This can be translated as, 'You are Yazid the eternally cursed, and I'm Hussain the son of Ali", and for this reason 'the likes of me do not submit to the likes of you.'

I'm listening to this:

Hussain Zindabad is one of my faves too, it's such an old Nauha.

I love the part where he says: Yazid zinda rehke Murdabad hogaya, Hussain sar kata ke Zindabad hogaya!

There is also another Nauha of him which I love, yeh chand tarey. Do you know that one ?

I listen to Nadeem Sarwar also all the time, he is my favourite Nauha khawan :)
