As-salamu alaykum brothers. I am new here and need help: what do you guys think about this article?? i need to refute it for a misgiuded Christian. I know we are not all this way. Some Sunni can be but are we? I like what he says about tradition at least

Blessings to you.

from here: http://catholicanalysis.org/2014/09/29/jihad-and-heresy/

I have established that Islam has never been peaceful. But, when confronted by Muslim heretics, Protestants, especially, have an innate tendency to cower over this. Just like Protestants, these Muslims protest against their tradition, with heresies of Qur’an-alone, “tolerance”, and so on.

Just as Protestants attempt to discard the tradition of the Church, “the pillar and support of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15), so some Muslims attempt to discard their tradition. These Muslims rely on faulty translations and interpretations of Qur’an 17:46 and others, taken out of context. As in Christianity, their central text does not exist in a vacuum — while “infallible” and containing all doctrine of the religion implicitly (Qur’an 2:2, 6:114, 55:1-2), it relies on authoritative elaborations for clarity.

The problem is, Americans do not understand the concept of heresy, because most of them are Protestants — themselves, heretics. Thus, they do not understand that their Muslim friend or neighbor, while peaceful, is not following the orders of the rightful heads of the Islamic tradition and is thus not truly a Muslim in the full sense, but a kafir (“disbeliever”; infidel).

Perhaps Anjem Choudary put it best: “You know, there is nothing called a ‘radical’ or ‘moderate’ form of Islam. A woman is either pregnant or not pregnant. If you abide by Islam, you will follow what is in the Qur’an and in the traditions of the ‘prophet’. And, quite frankly, you will never find anything that I say which does not have Islamic basis.”

There must be a way of identifying what Islam really is, just as there is a mechanism for identifying true Christianity. The answer is tradition, history. Authority has typically been bound to the role of Caliph, when one has been present, because there is no separation between religion and state in Islam, just as there never really was in Israel — Muslims, in light of this, revere King David in his prophet-king role (Qur’an 38:26). (Of course, in Christendom, they are meant to be distinct, but not separate.) Because, now, the caliphate claimant, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, is in a gray area of authority, the sure authorities are those in the established Islamic scholar-class.

And, do you know what these scholars say? All of their schools (Hanafi, Hanbali, Maliki, and Shafi’i) justify jihad against infidels, only differing in its exact application.

Shi’a, too, value tradition and jihad. The latter is one of the “Ancillaries of the Faith“. On the importance of an interpretative tradition, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini said, “The noble Qur’an is a great divine trust. The ‘ulama and ruhaniyyun (clergy) are the bearers of the divine trust.” And, of jihadal-Kulayni’s Kitab al-Jihad records, “…the Messenger of God said: ‘All goodness is in the sword and being in the sword’s shadow and not evaluating the people except (by) the sword, and the swords are keys (in the sense of being “integral”) to Paradise and the Conflagration (Hell).'”

Justification for all of this is found throughout the Qur’an (the peaceful ayats — verses — of which are abrogated by later, violent ones) and the Hadith/Sunnah. Muhammad, himself, is the exemplar of Islam — the perfect “prophet” — and is, thus, the standard by which all Muslims should measure their lives (Qur’an 3:132, 68:4).

The idea that Islam is now, suddenly, peaceful is foolish. In every area where Islam dominates, the area is corrupted. Constantinople (called “Istanbul” by the Turks), the second leading area of Christendom’s Pentarchy, has been conquered, in fulfillment of Muhammad’s words (Sahih Muslim 41:6924, 41:6979; Abu Dawud 32:4283). Christians there, in a country that is trying to play up how European and peaceful it is, have been slaughtered and subjugated. Even the Patriarch of that holy city has been relegated to a second-rate cathedral having nothing near the grandeur of the Hagia Sophia.

What is the next, and last, city on the Muslim must-conquer-list? Rome, which must be conquered before the Dajjal (Antichrist) and Jesus’ return (Sahih Muslim 39:6723, 41:6930). You can be certain that leaders will do everything in their power to destroy the center of the Church.

I welcome the Islamic movement for peace, however infinitesimal and inactive it is. But I will not hold my breath for it. Even popular American groups like CAIR and ISNA have been tied to terrorism. It hardly matters, anyway: condemned are “those who have divided their religion and become sects” (Qur’an 30:30-32). The movement will not last, for “those with [Muhammad] are forceful against the disbelievers” (Qur’an 48:29) and must “[m]ake a holy war” (Sahih Muslim 19:4294), and we will be forced to “give the jizyah willingly while [we] are humbled” (Qur’an 9:29) — unless we fight.

The jihad which is fighting in the way of god is only applicable if your home is being invaded and you can defend yourself here.

This is the smaller Jihad.

There is a greater Jihad which is fighting against temptations and seeking to improve yourself.

They call us Muslims as not peace seekers but when has a Christian country ever done any peace? there was 2 world wars, crusades, wiping out of american Indians, the British empire, the modern US with it corrupt foreign policy spreading wars and invading countries.

If they leave Muslims alone we are in peace, and we can solve our problems, all problems which exist in the Muslim world today, the US and her allies have a hand in it.

And take a look at the situation inside those countries which call Muslims bad, Is the US a Christian country? isn't the porn industry in the US? hasn't the US been facing problems of racial abuse ever since its creation?

Those who call us violent should look at themselves and their role in the wars, their history and their current leaders.

Pisses me off so much when arrogant materialists come tell us about peace and justice.

The best way to corrupt some one's faith is to bombard him/her a bunch of religious materials consisting of true and false substances. This way he (specially those who are new in religion) gets confused and took a dobious approach upon his belief and this is what you are attempting to reach.!!!

Now, let's as a Shia analyze what the writer said one by one, regardless what Sunnah (Hanafi,Hanbali, etc) say.

1- Thus, they do not understand that their Muslim friend or neighbor, while peaceful, is not following the orders of the rightful heads of the Islamic tradition and is thus not truly a Muslim in the full sense, but a kafir (“disbeliever”; infidel).

regardless the false interpretation he gave about the Jihad in Islam that we will go through it later, denying Jihad does not imply the concept of Heresy:

the term Muslim applies to every one who believe in God and prophethood of prophet Muhammad and he will be considered Muslim as long as he does not deny any of Principles of Islam (the Oneness of God, ...) and not what this deviated guy said and documented it ::

The latter is one of the “Ancillaries of the Faith“. On the importance

there is a deference between 5 Principles and 12 Ancillaries of faith.

2- the common criticism that Christians make with respect to the concept of Jihad and relate it to the violent aspect of Islam.

this is the mere mischievous propaganda they do against this Logical part of our life. there are just some questions I would like to be answered by any Christan or other individual who does not believe in this:

would not be it logical and wise to fight the one who is fighting you??Huh!!

you just let your enemy enter your house and commit any sort of violence toward you and your family and you do nothing in respons since as a false Idea Jesus A.S promoted you to show humble and kindness to your enemy??

who accept this??

The Quranic verses are doing the same, but the problem is that these ignorant men take it out of its context. for example :

this is one of the verse that might be abused in their argument to identify Islam as violent religion:

فَإِذا لَقيتُمُ الَّذينَ كَفَرُوا فَضَرْبَ الرِّقابِ حَتَّى إِذا أَثْخَنْتُمُوهُمْ فَشُدُّوا الْوَثاقَ فَإِمَّا مَنًّا بَعْدُ وَ إِمَّا فِداءً حَتَّى تَضَعَ الْحَرْبُ أَوْزارَها ذلِك‏

When you meet the faithless in battle, strike their necks. When you have thoroughly decimated them, bind the captives firmly. Thereafter either oblige them[ by setting them free ]or take ransom till the war lays down its burdens.(47:4)

usually they do not refer to the highlighted part. and just mention that Quran command Muslims to strike the neck of faithless.

simple question:

what do NATO do in the wars that occur here and there???

in that time (mentioned in the verse) Muslim were in fight against infidels of Mecca , what do you expect God to advise them.

this is not due to their disbelief, this was out of the rebellion toward Muslims. since God demands His messenger to accept infidels who like to hear from Islam

And if one of the idolaters seek protection from you, grant him protection till he hears the Word of Allah, then make him attain his place of safety This is because they are a people who do not know( 9: 6 )

reading these verses I wonder how they claim Islam spread by sword!!

I think they have forgot what Church has made upon those who did not believe in Christianity in medieval:

He also continues with a reference to the book of Imam Khomeyni as a Shia scholar who talked about the Jihad:

just look how they are far from the truth,

this poor writer either did not read even one page of the book or he wanted to abuse fallacy to provide his wrong statement.

the book titled Jihad Akbar is a ethical book which talk about moral deeds and the great duty man bear before God. it is totally non relevant to what he declare.

there are some quotation from which you could judge about the topic of the book:

The heart of man is like a mirror, clear and bright, and because of too much attention of this world and too many sins, it becomes dark.

Fear God! Beware of the aftermath of your deeds! Wake up from the sleep of negligence!

You young people are advancing toward old age, and we old people toward death.

With every breath and every step you take, and with each passing moment of your life, reform becomes more difficult, and it is possible for darkness and corruption to increase.
